The roof and foundation of my house needs to be fixed. If I get the roof done first because it is leaking, will it be affected when the foundation is fixed?

Our new home does not have insulation or sound proofing between floors. Can we fix this now? You can hear the TV from our den when in the master which is directly above. Would love to find a contractor that can remedy this, hopefully without pulling up the floor.

wondering if there's a product out there that one can spray on the inside of an exterior wall on a wood basement to waterproof? I had some minor leakage on an exterior basement wall. The basement is made of treated plywood and there isn't any signs of rot but there is some mildew as well as a recently deceased colony of ants. Is there a product that will seal or help seal any further leakage that is antibacterial?

How do I waterproof my basement without getting a sump pump. Water comes in during strong rain at one side of the wall where there is brick chimney outdoors, Inside is brick as well with cement floor inside.

Water is coming in through new overhead sewer conversion...how? Last year we had a overhead sewer conversion done in my house. I was in the basement last week and heard water running. I looking near the new PVC pipe that was going out from the new ejector pit that was installed in the basement. If you look at the picture you'll see how this was constructed. They put a hole in the foundation, but then used this black rubber gasket that you tighten up. It's 'supposed' to be water tight. Clearly its not and I grabbed a wrench to tighten it up as it had come lose. Luckily it was only rain water, but it must have been coming out for awhile since my carpet was soaked. Is this normal? Is this even the the right way to seal this up? Of course the contractor won't call me back now to fix it. I've pretty much stopped the leaking, but there's a tiny bit of water coming through still, and I don't wanna over tighten the nuts. Thoughts?

I had vinyl replacement windows installed three years ago in my 70 year old brick home. Could bad installation (shims?) be causing interior wood to pull away? I've got the usual settling of an older home and have very small cracks around stress points. But nothing like this. It looks to me like pressure from the window is distorting the frame and woodwork. Is that possible? See photos. This is the second floor and I can't see what is happening on the outside. Who do I call to give me a professional answer to fix this?

My handyman recently shared with me that he thinks I have some structural damage in my basement from a minor flood a few years back... (i.e. a large crack in the cement that runs across roughly half the floor and up towards the ceiling.) How serious might this problem become if unchecked?

Unfortunately, insulation and sound proofing is not required per code between conditioned spaces in this case.

It is also worthy of note that additional insulation between the floor will do very little to impact the noise tranmission as a majority is carried via vibrations on the framing.

There are applications and techiques that can can be deployed. All of them will require removal of the existing ceiling if you stay with a drywall finish. You can run resilient channel in addition to sound de-coupling isolators.

It is not an easy or cheap bullet fix in this case.

Are galvanized nails supposed to be used when nailing studs in a pressure treated sill plate on a slab? or is 3 inch smooth framing nails code?
