Work crew was very professional and easy to resolve issues as they were discovered.
Fred provides excellent management of projects and always sends us contractors who are very skilled and professional.
We have used Fred before and that's why we came back. The work is done on time and with care.
It was very well done and on time. We are fully satisfied.
Mark and his team are great!!! Manolo was recently onsite helping with a project. Mark arranged for a team to come in and paint two floors in my house and they did a wonderful job.
FRED is expensive, but the people they use know what they are doing and seem trustworthy. I didn't feel uncomfortable leaving them alone in the house. They seem to be busy and one has to wait a while before they can help you. We had a flaw in a door that they installed and they replaced it without any argument. I will say the paint job and instalation on the seond door was not as good as on the 1st one, I assume it was because they were running over our scheduled finish date. I have used Fred before and may use them again, but they are not perfect.
Generally, the company is very professional, organized, and showed up when they said they would.
I have used FRED a few times in the past and called them again for this project because I was confident that the consultant would understand what I wanted to do and follow through with me to ensure that the job was finished to my satisfaction. And that's how it turned out. Dan, the consultant who I had worked with previously, took the time to give me the initial options I wanted to help me decide on how to get the work done, and followed through with the contractor to ensure that I would be happy with the finished product. All in a timely manner. I got the excellent result I expected from Dan and from FRED.
I have had FRED do many projects within my home with excellent results each time. This job was particularly challenging since a built-in desk had to be removed to address the water damage behind and underneath it. They removed the section of the desk and replaced it without any damage to the desk and with the look flawless at the finish.
Brian Knott did an excellent job throughout the process. He was prepared for the initial consultation as he took pictures of the site and the HOA's request list. Also he had the carpenter meet us at the house to effectively communicate what needed to be done. The estimate was sent to me in a timely manner and the work was done in the specified timeline. This is the second time I've used FRED and they've done an outstanding job both times. Though the cost is higher than some contractors, the work is of a very high quality and the communication is excellent.
I thought that the craftsmanship was excellent and that the workers were great. The project management aspect was a little bit lacking. I had to be proactive with the project manager frequently to keep things moving. Communication was not great, not organized. A bit frustrating.
It depends on the project you have in mind if they would be the right company for you.
They had an extraordinary performance under the circumstances; quality work and quality fees.
professional, skillful, open to feedback and alternatives
Projects done by Fred are always well done and maybe more expensive than some but I always feel that projects are competently executed
Great company and the highest quality work.
Project was very successful and very well done. The craftsman was excellent.
I found their complete contracting service to be very beneficial, and their workers were courteous and professional. Their workmanship was of high quality.
Starting with the walk-thru, Tariq, the carpenter, was over an hour late blaming his GPS for routing him to southwest DC and not Silver Spring. I usually have virtual clients throughout each day. Since I had over a month to plan, I was able to move my first client of the day. However, I had a hard stop at 9:00. I was late to my 9:00 client so I could race through a very abbreviated walk-thru which lasted only a few minutes. Not a great first impression.
On the day the project started, Tariq was also late. He came into the house without any foot protection or drop cloths. After staying for about five minutes, he left. There was no communication about what was transpiring or when he would be back. I see virtual clients in the basement (all of the work was on the main level of the house) and was very clear that he could talk me as needed. I had given my clients notice that we had a contractor in the house and that I might need to interrupt the session to deal with any questions or issues.
A few hours later, Tariq came back only to leave shortly afterwards to take lunch. Once again, not letting me know what was going on. Over an hour later, he came back, did some more work. When he left for the day (before 4:00), there was no clean up. Materials were left on the front step and on the grass in front of our house. I had to go out a different door and move the materials in order to use the front door. The biggest issue of the day was that I could not close or lock the front door no matter how hard I tried. That’s when I called the project manager (I had no way of reaching Tariq) and he came out to help with the door. In addition to helping with the door, he helped with a cabinet issue that Tariq claimed was “unfixable due to a warped drawer”.
The second day of work was similar to the first - lack of communication. The last item to get finished was the front door. I needed to leave for a doctor’s appointment at 3:30 that I had told Tariq about earlier in the day. Everything that he needed to complete could be done with a locked front door. Upon completion of the work, Tariq left the front door a mess. White paint was on the red front door, sanding dust was also all over the front door. There truly was no pride in workmanship. I felt like I could have done a better job.
My husband and I had chosen to go with Fred because of the reputation that the company had. We were excited to have “one stop shopping” for our odd projects. Otherwise, we would have had to use several specialty contractors. I knew that we were paying a premium for this convenience. In the end, it was not worth it. We will not be reaching out to Fred for further projects.
They are a bit more expensive but the security with their staff is very important to me.
Julio and Rocque did a beautiful job and were extremely pleasant to work with.
It's just not worth it to trust your home to anyone else.
I have had the FRED team, led by Mark Fessenden, do work at my house for well over a year. They have undertaken a variety of projects from roofing, plumbing, gutter guards, electrical work, a custom designed ceiling and entire inside house painting, just to name a few. I am so incredibly pleased with Mark and the FRED team. I feel so lucky that I found FRED! The FRED team along with their sub-contractors are such fabulous professionals and have always acted with integrity.
My project started on the day they planned and was done a half day early. They addressed one unforeseen issue at a very reasonable add-on cost. They were very professional and skilled. The crew cleaned up each evening to ensure we had full use of our home each evening. I will definitely work with them again!
Very happy with the work!
GuildQuality partners with it's member companies to survey their customers and collect detailed feedback on their behalf. By administrating surveys as an unbiased third party we ensure that customers have the opportunity to express their true feelings about a project and that members get the most accurate and detailed feedback possible.
When a survey contains the "Review" question, that customer's answer will show up on the member's profile page as a public review. Members have the option to turn off reviews but cannot hide individual reviews. It's all or nothing. This means that any reviews you see on a GuildQuality profile page are real comments left by the customer and verified by GuildQuality.
Each item listed under "Customer satisfaction" represents a specific question asked by GuildQuality to customers of FRED Home Improvement as part of our survey process. The bar graph and percentage next to the question stand for the percentage of respondents that were "Satisfied" about that particular question.
A customer is considered satisfied about about a question if they answered with 4 or more stars out of 5. For example if the "Communication" question is at 95% satisfaction that means that 95% of survey respondents answered that question with 4 or more stars out of 5 possible stars.More about surveys
