Short Review:
Premium Price, Premium Product??, SUBSTANDARD Installation. I can’t in good faith give a recommendation for this product or service at this time.
Long Review:
After spending months getting quotes for roofing replacements due to my roof not having proper ventilation, I decided to investigate Erie Metal Roofs for a possible roofing solution. The reviews online seemed great, the sales people were actually knowledgable about the things I had concerns with, and they offered financing which is always a good way to make a sell when you have a large home needing a metal roof. The price was a premium level, so I was going in expecting a premium quality on the installation. Oh boy was I wrong!
We get our product in and the installation starts. The installers, for a lack of a better description, destroyed the siding on my dormers. They were cut about a foot away from the roof line, and just looked horrible (photos attached to the review!).
Next, the installers didn’t seem to realize that I had paid for the chimneys to be removed from the roof. This was apparently a big deal work load wise for them, but the fact that they didn’t know what they were supposed to be doing on site was a clear indicator that premium installation was not going to happen.
After that, I had to leave for a medical appointment and left my significant other here, telling them to not sign the final approval paperwork. I am very glad that they didn’t because the installers had removed our vents from the old roof and didn’t install any ventilation for the new roof. No ridge vent, no box vents, no ventilation at all! Very unprofessional mistake that makes me question the whole installation process / quality of work.
When looking over the work, we noticed that the edge of the roof on the end of the house was very wavy, and looked horrible. The roof for some reason has to be placed on top of the edge where it meets the dormer leaving an unsatisfactory look especially on the front dormers on the house, when looking online at the images of the other homes that have the same type of roof situation this is not displayed anywhere. We were told that we can have some siding installers put new siding pieces over it to cover the unappealing look. They left nails and screws loose all over the roof that I will have to spend time making sure to check for to keep them out of family and pets feet when it falls down. There were tons of nails and screws left in the grass around the house. Pieces of the roof with metal exposed instead of having the coating on it. Wavy looking pieces with scuff marks all over them showing the metal underneath. Edges around the dormers and on the over hangs of the dormers look loose, and jagged. Edges that are very wavy compared to what you see in the product images online. Gutters full of nails and screws.
After refusing to sign off on the work, the production manager reached out, and to their credit we were able to fix a large majority of the issues. I still have to find a contractor to replace parts of the siding, and the huge headache for having to point out every spot that was missed, as well as making sure to clean up the rest of the nails and screws that were all over the place (which is more typical with this kind of work, but still). I still have exposed metal showing from scuffs on the product, but the guys that were out here working ran out of the patch material to cover it.
All in all, for the cost of the product, it wasn’t worth what I was given. Even though it's supposed to be covered for 100 years, with the quality on the installation I have my doubts about the longevity of both the product and the company. I can’t in good faith give a recommendation for this product or service at this time.
After the rains last night 05/01/22 I went to verify there weren’t any leaks in the attic. Where they closed off the chimney for our roof they didn’t even fill in the hole completely with lumber. They left a 3-4 in gap.
I had friends who were having roof leaks from ice dams so I called about getting a metal roof. I wasn't having any trouble with my existing roof, but knew it was two old layers already and a tear off would be needed sooner or later and what with inflation decided to do it now. Called Erie and a salesman came to my house. I was impressed by the metal roof samples but they were too expensive. I went with the fiberglass roof. Including a new deck and the tear off, it was more than I had paid years ago for just the second layer of asphalt shingles but signed up anyway. The salesman said it would probably be done within a month, which surprised me because more local contractors usually are booked many months out. Sure enough, I got a call one morning a couple of weeks later that a crew could come out. They arrived later that morning and said it would take them about five hours. As a matter of fact it took 8 hours, but no biggie. They cleaned up quite well, considering that they completed it with lights. The warranty is for materials for 30 years, materials and labor for 10, so we'll see, but so far so good. I'm very pleased with the installation and the price was acceptable considering it's a pretty high roof with a high slope and included all that tear off. Looks like a good system.
The roofing crew was on time, very respectful of my property and very efficient during the installation. The crew foreman answered all my questions and let me know if any issues found and how they were going to resolve them. The crew took approximately 45 minutes at the end of the day to thoroughly clean up any and all trade litter. I would highly recommend Erie for any roofing needs.
We truly just could not be happier with them. They were extremely professional, from the sales reps to the crew that came out and did our roof. They were very professional and very knowledgeable. The crew was fast, efficient, and clean. It was a very good experience.
I prefer to just give the star rating.
I give Erie Construction Midwest Inc. four stars because I referred three people and they charged them more money for less footage!
