>>Our History
Windom Construction began in 1885 when Cicero Windom started a small business making home furniture and traveling chests. Simon, his oldest, continued as a woodworker and a general contractor in North West Georgia. His oldest son, Neal began in the work, served in the Army Air Corps in WW II, and then became a prominent Methodist minister in North Georgia.

Robert Windom, the CEO, began construction work in 1964 and served his apprenticeships in the trades under the watchful guidance of Robert Story a prominent general contractor from Lilburn, Ga. After completing his formal education (Young Harris AA, Birmingham-Southern BA, and Emory University M Div), and serving for 5 years with the N GA Conference of the UMC as an Inner City Minister, Robert reestablished the family old business in 1976 and began work rebuilding the older homes and places of worship of the Old Town Atlanta. In the late 80's he took time-out to supervise projects in Manhattan, remote NW Colorado, California and Hawaii.

He was in Hawaii for eight years, initially building a church sanctuary in Kailua, Oahu, and a home for Sylvester Stallone on Kauai. He assimilated into the island culture well and became a licensed Hawaii General Contractor and a member of: Construction Specifications Institute CSI of Hawaii, the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Associated Builders and Contractors ABC of Hawaii, and the Building Industry Association BIA of Hawaii (The largest Trade Association in the state with over 740 members. Robert was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of BIA for his last two years in Hawaii). Windom Construction Co. in Hawaii was active in the commercial, custom residential, and home renovations market.

Family health concerns in Atlanta brought Robert back to Atlanta from Hawaii. Windom Construction Co. in Georgia is active inside I-285 working on renovation, restoration, preservation, and new additions for older residential structures.

>>What Windom can Do for You
As a certified Earth Craft homebuilder and renovator we have a special interest in planetary stewardship and diligently work to create and transform dwellings in such a manner that they become not only comfortable, aesthetically pleasing spaces for living, but also contribute to a more energy efficient environment to enable a sustainable future.

We are also a EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm, a necessity in today's remodeling and renovation environment. Common renovation activities like sanding, cutting, and demolition can create hazardous lead dust and chips by disturbing lead-based paint, which can be harmful to adults and children. To protect against this risk, beginning April 22, 2010, contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and must follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. The EPA requires that firms performing renovation, repair, and painting projects that disturb lead-based paint in pre-1978 homes, child care facilities and schools be certified by EPA and that they use certified renovators who are trained by EPA-approved training providers to follow lead-safe work practices.

We are equipped to handle residential construction, renovation, and remodeling projects of all sizes and difficulties: from the restoration of an early twentieth century structure to the remodeling of a modern kitchen. All project inquiries are welcome; contact us today for your free estimate.
