The design specialist was gone about halfway through the project, without explanation, so I didn't have assistance towards the last half of the project. At the beginning I don't feel like the architect had much interest in bringing ideas to the table or making sure the basement met my needs. For example, I had an idea for a workout area in the basement, but I didn't realize the ceiling wasn't high enough. There's also a very large area that I didn't really know what do do with, and I didn't get any advice about to do with it.
I didn't get any advice about what might be a good idea if I resell the house in the future, how light switches should be organized, where bathrooms should be placed, or the potential problems with overhead pipes etc. Things that I don't think about as someone that has never finished a basement. The stairs got completely overlooked, so a change order had to be put in flooring to match the basement, but now it doesn't match anything else in the staircase. I'm looking at completely redoing the staircase in the future.
Fortunately in the end it worked out for the most part, but if I were to recommend them to someone else my advice would be to think very carefully about exactly what you want before contacting them. He will give you exactly what you ask for and nothing more, which is why I would classify this as a 4 star experience rather than 5.
