This job was in 2017 but we have been trying to get repairs done and warranties filed for almost 6 years! We thought the roof job went fine and and so hired them to also remove skylights upstairs and the skylight shades downstairs. The interior crew was not good. What should be a 3 day job upstairs, turned into a 3 week nightmare with damage done to our furniture, walls and lighting fixture/fan. The dry wall "experts" Chris talked about took 4 tries before they got it right. After the first bad job, Chris agreed it was bad and had to be replaced. Rather than starting over, he got some crazy idea that our ceiling wasn't level and had to be leveled with spackle My husband took a level and showed him the ceiling was fine but Chris told his crew to put about 50 lbs of mud on the ceiling, we saw the multiple empty bags. When they went to paint it, the ceiling collapsed! We felt so bad for the workers, they were so upset. At that point, Chris lost interest in our satisfaction and was only concerned it was "costing him money". When we settled out the final check, we requested a $700 reduction, which was itemized, for damages. He just said let's get this over with, fine, no apology. A couple months later, we noticed the starter strip on the shed roof was missing and notified Chris. He said that we owed him $700 and he would fix the roof when we paid him! So we filed an MHIC complaint. In the process, we found he deliberately DID NOT file our roof warranties-- a job completed and paid for before the interior job even started! We had 2 MHIC hearings and the judge ruled for us, saying we didn't owe him money and his job was incomplete but MHIC doesn't cover warranties. We paid extra for the 10 year warranty but would have to go to civil court and spend thousands in legal fees! He is dishonorable and dishonest so buyer beware. If all is going well, maybe it will be OK, but if you hit a bump in the road, be aware that this guy will lie and cheat and insult you to serve his bottom line. He would not even agree to mediation, which is in his own signed contract-- so much for that! So be warned, there are other roofers out there.

They never gave me warranty information on the roof or on the solar fan they installed. I also had a separate issue with the roof. It wasn't High Point but it was the people that delivered the roofing material. When they put material on the roof, they dropped it with such force that it shook the house and broke one of my Hummel plates hanging on the kitchen wall. I can't replace it. I have called the roofing company and they never called back to replace the plate or somehow compensate. It would be hard to replace since they are collector plates. But again, it was not High Point, it was the people who delivered the shingles.

High Point Remodeling did two jobs for me that were related: they put a new roof on my house (in one day!) and extended my front porch to the end of the house (about 3') and enclosed ⅓ of it. My husband and I met Chris at the MD Home Show, and were impressed with his ability to look at our home with a satellite and give us a price for a new roof (which turned out to be an excellent value, when we got other bids to compare). The roof work went perfectly, although the ridge vent required for the warranty has been odd--our room used to always be hot, but sometimes it now gets quite cold in the winter. Since I prefer it cold to sleep, it hasn't been an issue. The porch enclosure is fantastic! My whole house works better with an entryway and coat closet instead of just walking into the living room. The work was beautifully done, integrates into the outside facade, and even my neighbors love it. Chris suggested making the enclosed area a bit bigger than I'd been planning on, and I'm SO glad we did, and he suggested using a heated floor, which we love. They even recreated the millwork from our former front door to make the outside look as nice as the inside. We couldn't be happier with our new entryway!

Also, we've had a LOT of work done on this home and the last one, and know that jobs DON'T always go perfectly--and what really matters is how well a company communicates and how well they address issues if they do come up. For example, Chris had a pallet of brick delivered that didn't match the outside of our house--but could not have been more gracious about taking those back and letting us find bricks we liked better. Even as the bricks were being put up, I noticed one spot where the pattern didn't work (the bricks lined up straight instead of offset) and pointed it out to the guys. I was really stunned later to find that they had taken out 3 rows of bricks and fixed it! He and his guys were always nice, polite, and great to work with. And, Chris even let me hire the brick guys directly to do some steps for my backyard art studio, which was very kind of him.

We had a new roof put on by High Point. The roof looks good and after a week of rain, we have seen no evidence of any leaks. Chris Garliss was very helpful in choosing the right materials and really knows his stuff. Their price was right in line with other estimates that we received. We would have rated them at 5 stars, except that we had concerns about what happened with us on the actual day of installation. The workers who installed the roof appeared to be from another roofing company; in other words, a subcontractor. We were told that the workers were direct employees, so you may want to take that into consideration if that's a priority for you. When the job began, there was no supervisor present for the crew and the crew did not speak English well, so we had to perform a pantomime show. As the roof was being torn down, nothing was placed over our plantings, deck, or flagstone. We finally were able to get them to cover some things, but they did end up making a bit of a mess. At the end of the day, though, the crew did clean up the grounds very well, but we were left with a bit of staining from wet shingle material. We have relayed these concerns to Chris and if the company improves their communications and property protection we think they could truly be a 5-star company.
