Jim Zengel’s experience in construction begins at age 12, working on job sites for his grandfather’s business. As a teenager, pitching in to provide manual labor gradually became a labor of love. Jim acquired experience in all aspects of homebuilding—carpentry, masonry, concrete, plumbing, electric, painting—and applied his skills in and around the Dayton community.
“I finished the inside of the Alter High School band room my senior year in high school, then built storage closets and soundproof rooms after I graduated. It was clearly in my blood to build and remodel.”
Jim officially joined the Zengel family business full-time in 1979, honing his expertise in a variety of roles within the company. As he assumed increasing responsibility at Zengel Construction, Jim eventually became involved in local, state and national Home Building Associations, focusing heavily on building codes and standards. Since 1998, he has served as a National Director of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). In 2005, he was appointed by Ohio’s Governor Taft to the Residential Code Advisory Committee (RCAC), serving as chairman for the next five years. Jim has also been recognized by his peers in the building and remodeling industry as a recipient of the highest awards from the Home Builders association of Dayton and the Ohio Home Builders Association.
In 2011, Jim became a Certified Green Professional (CGP), followed by recognition as a Certified Graduate Builder (CGB) in 2014.

Jim and his wife, Connie, have been married for over 25 years and have three children: Casey, Patrick, Jenna and son-in-law Lane. The Zengel family calls Dayton home where they enjoy spending time with their large extended family. Hide

Work Done Right - There were a couple small hiccups with electricians and plumbers but the Zengel team responded quickly and made things right.

Areas Of Satisfaction - They did a great job cleaning up each day, realizing that we were living there and have a dog. They were quick to respond to any question or comment we had. The guys were good workers who take pride in their work and put in a full day, every day. They were on the job every day consistently and were pleasant to be around.

We know that when we have someone from this company working in our home that the work will be completed to our satisfaction by the date agreed upon. The workmen are always courteous and knowledgeable, and they always leave the workspace in a clean and safe condition. We have had this group do several projects for us, and they have always done an outstanding job. We highly recommend them to anyone who is interested in home remodeling of any sort.

Areas For Improvement - We have no complaints regarding any of the work completed for us. We received weekly communications, and the work was always completed as promised. If we ever had any questions, these were immediately addressed in a knowledgeable and professional manner.

Areas Of Satisfaction - The end results of all of our projects were outstanding, and we know that we can count on Jim to do the work as promised by the date promised. We have had many compliments on our bathroom projects, and Jim came through for us when we had a flood in our basement. In fact, Jim and his crew went above and beyond by fixing defects found along the way with earlier construction performed by another company.
