Affordability and the overall process
Buildi ng a home while residing in another state is a daunting task and assumes a lot of trust . Despite my concern with our salse person, the rest of the team stepped up and fully met our expectations.
They did a good job. We have been in the house since January and haven't had any problems so far. They did a quality job.
Everyone who worked on our house was very patient with us.
Switching our PMs mid build was a hard pill to swallow. We didn’t have some of the best subcontractors do quality work. But overall we love our home and are truly grateful! A lot of our limitations are due to our own budget and time of build.
This whole process was capitalism at its best. I was consistently told one thing while something else actually happened. Throughout the process things were thrown together without thought by the individual doing it. I requested, and paid for a plug in the floor. The plug was installed in the middle of the floor, not functional in any form. When I pointed this out they removed it and I was told I could hire someone else to put it where I wanted it. My fireplace hearth cap stone has an over hang of 1 1/2 inches on one side and 3 1/2 on the other side (pride in what they do right there). I have a light switch outside the door going into the garage from the house but not one by the utility door to shut it off when leaving or turning it one when entering through that door. The flooring that was installed was not the quality the salesman told me. The local branch did work to get that replaced but it’s not finished. The garage ceiling looks like a juvenile did it. The seams are very apparent, sunk in and smooth in comparison to the rest of the ceiling. I have chunks out of the foundation in the garage. I assume because the forms were taken off before it was time. I have chips out of my garden tub, The composite decking has cracks in it and there are various other things that have just add up to I will not recommend this company. But they were able to close on the project in the timeframe needed!!!
Overall experience was good.
The lack of communication in getting electricity to my home. I thought when I closed on the home I would have electricity like the next day. After 3 weeks I either had to stay in the cold with no lights or water or spend money for motel rooms. I had paid Haywood Electric the amount that they said would get me electricity and that they had spoken to the HOA. The builder then decided to change who would dig the trench necessary to lay the line and I ended up with a $7800 bill.
We had the land but we had no idea how to get our house built or what it might look like when it was finished . AHP solved that for us and gave us a lot of floor plans to choose from, allowed us to move and even remove walls and even flip the entire house plan to fit our location and our needs
I would highly recommend America’s Home Place, and I have to anyone that’s going to build a house.
The attention to detail from my project manager David Minnis was excellent. He took care of every small detail.
The entire experience was fantastic.
Fast, quality work. I feel like my PM and everyone in the office are like family!
I’ve already recommended several customers
I would probably tell someone to compare prices.
In the beginning, I was expecting it to take 10 months to a year to complete. The framing started the first week in November and I received my Certificate of Occupancy on March 1st. America’s Home Place is very fast!
This is what we would tell a friend.
Going to the office and selecting all the materials for our home was both stressful and enjoyable. I wish we had had a second appointment where we visually saw everything that was being installed. There was so much to discuss that we inadvertently missed a few things that eventually became part of the house, which would have required a significant change that we ultimately decided to omit.
Overall, we are pleased with our home. However, we had a rough start with the graders doing the footers. It was frustrating to watch weeks pass without any progress, only to be asked to pay an additional $15,000 for their services.
The materials turned out to be more than expected. When Canon informed us about it, he mentioned that it would incur a slight additional cost. This additional cost amounted to around $25,000.
Also, the drain lines for the low point in the crawlspace were installed before the septic line was connected and ended up being removed during the septic line installation. Unfortunately, Americas Home Place refused to reinstall it.
We believe Americans Home Place is a great business and we have an amazing home but we’ve noticed that they sometimes seem to favor the contractor over the client.
I would recommend America's Home Place looking to build a quality home for a fair price
I would definitely recommend America's Home Place in Athens to anyone. Everyone there did an amazing job helping us and walking us through building our home! Thank You!
My home was built fast, on a budget and with good quality.
The only thing that I do not like is I have paint on the floor, cabinets and the tub. The people put a hole in one of my pipes and caused mold to build up. I would still recommend them.
From sales to project manager to items after closing this has been a great experience. Mark and his team is awesome at the gainesville ga office.
We dealt with the purchase/build process while living in IL which was not ideal since we couldn't physically check up on the work to catch issues. We really wished we would have understood what a "rough grade" of the yard meant since we were shocked at the amount of branches and rocks that are visible and need to be removed. Grader states he had it cleared but that rain caused items to pop up. Drainage didn't seem to account for getting water moved off our property and it's going cost us a lot to fix the problem. The grader states the builder next door built up their property levels but couldn't someone had contacted us to try to remedy the situation while building was still going on? You know things are bad when the neighbors make negative comments. Upgrades too expensive or not available. Some products look cheap.
They were fast, efficient, helpful, and if there was a problem, they took care of it right away.
The entire staff of the Sunbury location are super nice and easy to work with! They listen and make useful suggestions regarding the home buying process.
America's construction needs more oversight.
It was a great experience.
