Only 1 problem with this contractor and I share the blame. I have had them do extensive renovation of my house over the past 6 years. The work 2 years ago included concrete removal and replacement in a first floor room. In showing this to Bob Donovan, I asked if a broken cinder block forming the base of the exterior wall could be removed and replaced as part of the work as it would be easily accessible when the concrete was removed. He indicated that this could easily be done. However it was not added as part of the work list--a matter that did not concern me because of its minor nature. However, after the concrete had been removed and they were about to pour the new concrete, I asked the individual who appeared to be in charge of the work(I believe mistakenly called Al in subsequent conversations)if he shouldn't be addressing the removal and replacement of the block at that time--I had even acquired a replacement block and placed it on the stone pile they had previously brought in for the work. I was told that they had no mortar on hand and that this work could be accomplished later when they returned to address another segment of concrete. When they did return, they stated that it was not practical to remove the block by approaching it from the exterior of the home but that they had patched it with their special concrete which would make the block good as new. The repair did not endure even one winter. And the next Spring, neither Bob Donovan nor Al (who I don't believe was the individual on the scene that spoke to despite McCoy's records to the contrary) had had any recollection of the event and I continue to be concerned about the broken block.
Overall, the work that was performed was satisfactory. My only, and somewhat major concern, was that they added a 7,000 dollar add on shortly after the project began. I was basically put on the spot to make an immediate decision, or the work would not be warranted. I felt as though I had been fooled into the original dollar amount of the project, only to have it increase dramatically. It seemed as though the sales rep knew this was going to happen, but failed to address this possibility before the project began. I was caught off guard, and the amount of money I had to pay went from 11,000 dollars, to 18,000 dollars. The crew that performed the work was great. The sales rep, on the other hand, seemed to withhold some vital information. By the time I received that information, it was too late, and I was another 7,000 dollars in the hole. I guess I should have asked about what the worst case scenario could be, but I feel that it was the salesman's job to inform me about this.
A fine job overall (professional, clean, and knowledgeable), but several month after, a small leak continues along the repaired crack. I placed a call and received feedback of it "being normal". We continue to watch and have seen damp spots on occasion but have not called back. Since we have 10 years on our contract, we intend to follow-up if it continues into next spring.
My wife and I were extremely pleased with the work that was done by McCoy Contractors. While no one wants to spend money to install drain tiles in their basement, we felt from the beginning of the process that we were in good hands with McCoy. We have had extremely heavy rains since McCoy installed the drain tiles, but NOT ONE DROP of water entered in our basement. These guys come with my highest recommendation.
Top notch company, skilled workers, maintained a clean work environment, did the job right. Who can ask for more?

They were willing to come out right away which would mean arriving around midnight. We opted for first thing Sunday... more
