We decided to build with America's Home Place after researching their online reviews, comparing prices with similar companies, and visiting five...5... America's Home Place model centers to see the quality of work we could expect in our home. I would recommend the company (5 stars) on price per square foot, we were able to build a slightly larger house than we would have been able to with other companies. I would recommend the company on simplicity of the build process, the team ensured that we were aware of what steps were coming up next in the process from our first meeting with sales to our work with the warranty team. I am unable to give the company a Very Likely to recommend/ 5 star review because the quality of the home we are currently in is not and will never be what we viewed in the dozen + models we toured.
During foundation and framing the project ran smoothly. When finish work began we began seeing items that were not completed to the standards that we had seen in the model homes. We regularly visited the build site and pointed out items of concern as soon as they were noted. Many of these items were corrected but several items became a point of contention between the build team and my husband and I. When it became obvious that I was not satisfied with the build we received a visit from Josh Titus. Josh utilized his boxed "conflict resolution" strategies to attempt to appease us, based on how Josh treated my husband and I, I can only assume he was assigned the "bad cop" role to balance the very kind, accommodating personality of our project manager. When we continued to push the issues Josh informed us that items, "were not outside of their standards". This was shocking as the "standards" we expected were what we witnessed at the model centers, why was our home not as important to America's Home Place? We finally signed off on construction and moved in when it became clear our concerns were falling on deaf ears.
The warranty team is currently attempting to correct some of the items that were debated during construction. With that being said there is only so much the warranty manager, Terry Meng, can take on. The smaller items: missing screws in porch pickets, doors that weren't painted evenly, etc were simple fixes that have been corrected. We will still be left with bent/ uneven flashing on multiple areas on our roofline that were pointed out during construction and were promptly passed off as "normal oil canning" by Mr. Titus. We will be left with flashing on our front porch (the main feature of the floor plan we chose) that overlaps with large gaps facing the front door despite the warranty team's attempts to better the look of the gaps by caulking them. To properly correct this the flashing would have to be replaced (simple enough when it was pointed out during construction but complicated now that all the siding is on the porch).
If you choose to build with America's Home Place it is possible to have a beautiful end result for a decent price but you must go to bat for what you need before you sign that final construction check list. Don't take, "it's not outside of our standards/ tolerance" as an excuse for mediocre work. A "fix" on the back end is not the same as having it done right the first time.
I am likely to recommend America’s Home Place since I love my home.
The entire experience from start to finish was very easy. The entire team was great to work with and I developed a good sense of trust in their abilities to design and complete my home as agreed upon. The communication along the way was great. They have quite a few different models to choose from as well.
First time doing a new build and I was ready for setbacks and overages which is what I've always hears thru the years. That was not happened with my build. Came in quicker than the original move in date and pretty much on budget. Totally satisfied !
Great quality and communication
They build quality in short time
Excellent communication, very good quality and attention to detail. They really make you feel welcome not just another customer or client.
I loved working with Heather in the Columbia office. She was very helpful and knowledgeable when we started the process and up until our final selections were made.
We worked with Frankie on the construction side and he was great to work with. He sent weekly updates as to what was going on with the house. Any concerns or questions I had, Frankie would always get me an answer. After we moved in, I was still able to call him and he was always willing to help. He went above and beyond to get the front porch like I wanted.
Our house was built in less than and year and it is absolutely gorgeous and very well built.
God is good. I prayed for this home. My neighbors were in the home building process when a hurricane hit. I watched America's Home Place build my neighbor's home, and it didn't take long. My husband said we can go and build a home, so I chose America's Home Place after watching them build my neighbor's home. They kept me informed throughout the process. I loved that they said what they'd do and they did. I was able to get into my house quickly. I'm blessed. If the lord blesses me with more money, I'll build another home with America's Home Place.
The entire process was smooth, simple and easy to follow. Being our first home and our first build, answers were available and there were not any secrets. Very open communication.
We highly recommend people to stay far away from AHP. From start to finish, the entire project was an absolute nightmare. My husband and I felt like we were living in a twilight zone for almost a year. In short, from being lied to in the office and at our final review to get our business, our roof leaking and not being fixed for weeks and ruining our subfloors, workers drinking on the job and leaving food in the house to let ants start infesting, walls being so crooked that everything is literally uneven and messed up we can’t put anything on the walls without the wall getting messed up or something looks crooked because nothing is straight, the siding owner taking siding out of the dirty dumpster and putting it on our brand new house and showing the worker to do the same (I have videos) and still not completing it correctly after coming out the FOURTH time (it’s still not correct to this day), the manager Tracy Boner being so disrespectful and unprofessional that I can’t even believe he is still employed with this company, the tile guy completely ruining our shower that it had to be torn out and then he never showed back up to redo it (well he did, then he left and never came back, no one ever knew until we told our PM) so our home build took 2 months longer than what it should have and we had to pay for it literally and figuratively, the drywall people using thinner drywall than what they should have and coming at 5am the next day to try and cover it up with drywall mud, the project manager doesn’t do anything except for show up maybe once a week to pop his head in to snap a photo so he can send you an email at the end of the week to make you feel like he’s doing something, there is A WHOLE LOT more but I’m not getting paid to write a book so please do yourself a favor and find a company who actually cares about their customers and do what they say. AHP is not a good company. They just want your money and they hire the absolute worst workers for pennies on the dollar to fatten their own selfish pockets. They don’t care about their customers or their satisfaction like the website or the CEO’s slogan says. It is all lies as I got to be on site every day watching it get built with my own eyes. I hate our home and the people that built it as I feel it’s just going to fall apart in one year after seeing how crappy it was put together and no one was here to ever look at things to make sure they were right. I wish more than anything we would have went with a different builder and I hope this review helps someone make that decision so they don’t live in a nightmare like we did for one year with AHP. AHP is building show homes right down the road from us and I’m eager to spread the word about our experience with this company who put us through so much pain and suffering because I would HATE for anyone to go through what we went through with them and if I can help just one person I would love that.
Received a good product at a reasonable price.
AHP was a great company to work with. We were first time home builders so we needed a lot of guidance. AHP was with us all the way. With AHP we got the home of our dreams (And they even came in under budget!!!)
We felt that the process was pretty straightforward and smooth.
Yes. Already have.
Absolutely, we have recommend AMP to several people and brought a couple to view the model homes at KODAK. AHP is currently building for coworker and friend that we referred.
Everyone at Americas Home Place has been so knowledgeable and helpful. They really treat you like they themselves would want to be treated. Everything we asked about was never an issue and attempted to be accommodated. Even after the home was moved into, they have been very good at keeping up with any issues we find.
The quality of work, great communication, and very efficient build process.
We had a lot of cost added during the build which I feel like should have not been if someone did their job more thoroughly.
Ive told everyone how awesome AHP is and stayed on budget
Someone available to answer any questions during the Building Process.
The team is very sttentive
Yes the quality and professionalism of the team and the build
If a family member or friend are looking for a builder, America's Home Place would be the one and only place.
I should’ve selected another contractor to build my home. The lack of continuity and/or communication between internal stakeholders led to every issue I faced as the customer.
