I would give Van Metre Design + Build 4 stars if there follow up was a little better.

I would highly recommend Van Metre Home Design-Build to anyone doing a home renovation! I used another major contractor several years ago in the Northern Virginia area and it was a disaster! Chris Fadden from Van Metre was a top notch professional! He was efficient, had great suggestions, and was able to do multiple phases of my renovation effortlessly. He kept on top of the project the entire way through and had daily communication with me with the status. Van Metre has good quality products and sources and a wide selection of options. If you are considering a home renovation call Chris Fadden! You won't be sorry. I am thrilled with the results of my renovation and will use them again! Great customers service is a plus and Chris Fadden is a testament to that. Van Metre is lucky to have him.

Customer Suggestion - After a bad experience with a major company in this area, it is refreshing to have a company that stands by their products and services. Van Metre is a five star company and their services are the same in their Design-Build. I was referred to Van Metre by a friend and Chris Fadden , and it was the best decision I have ever made with home renovations.
We have done two projects with Van Metre Design+Build, a garage and a patio/steps/pergola. Both came out fantastic. The garage took extra time, mainly because of the electricity, which was beyond the control of Van Metre Design+Build. However, we were kept informed and alerted to options to still accomplish the task. If we come up with a third project we will clearly use them again.

Communication - Overall, I was pleased with the communications and way we worked together. I do think there is room for improvement on a more formalized approach to the weekly meetings (agenda, approach to make it more efficient, action items taken and communicated after, etc) and always keeping the project plan up to date.
Areas Of Satisfaction - VM design + build's team of experienced professionals and full service know-how paired with a very high bar on the quality of the work is a stellar combination.
Additional Comments - An improvement would be to offer more design expertise on the interior selection aspects of projects.
Understand Building Process - A detailed look at the project milestones and timelines is the one area I think the team needs to improve upon. I know coconstruct and staffing the team will greatly improve this for other clients.

Value - Overall, we feel like we are absolutely receiving a fair value for all the work we are doing but the level of transparency in the initial bid was a bit confusing. You need to figure out how to best manage in the proposal process. How to communicate your profit margins and fee vs flat rate estimates and how you bid out the work will be key components to improving this.
Customer Suggestion - transparency in the budgeting process (figure out an innovative approach to this could make you stand out amongst competitors)project management taken up several notches (detailed project plans, call reports/summaries after meetings, getting things on time)interior design needs to be addressed--not fabrics and furniture, but kitchen design beyond cabinet selection and how everything works together in the space.

VM design+build did a great job on my kitchen and master bathroom remodel. They were able to design new layouts for both rooms, which gave them a bigger floor plan to work with. They were very professional and always responded right away if you had any questions or concerns.
