All around great experience. The only reason its not a five is that I did not exactly like the sub contractors. They didnt seem particularly responsible, they showed up at weird times and just left with no communication. I would not use them as stand a lone businesses.

I have had many experiences with contractors over decades as a homeowner. I bought my house here in 2017 and there were significant needs. All windows needed to be replaced, the back porch was basically supported by spit and dreams (with a couple of bricks thrown in) and the kitchen and bath need cosmetic overhaul. TDS is very easy to work with, very responsive to needs and desires (and I say this as a woman homeowner with definite wants, who has been treated dismissively by previous contractors). The window replacement and correction of foundational support were completed in a timely fashion and the quality of the work was exceptional. I am currently in the midst of a cosmetic refresh of kitchen and bath. Throughout, everyone from TDS has been prompt, respectful, responsive and the quality of the work has been excellent.

Our experience with TDS was extremely positive. From design to build, all TDS staff and subcontractors demonstrated the expertise expected and needed for our major renovation. The designers turned our concepts into reality and assisted with the challenging tasks of selecting and coordinating colors, fixtures, cabinets, etc. Our onsite lead carpenter managed the schedules of the subcontractors and keep things on schedule and communicated dates and changes to us. In addition, during this pandemic, all workers on site followed safety practices to keep themselves and us safe.

The company from planning to end was very responsive and easy to work with.

I have used TDS Custom Construction 2 or 3 times now and have been satisfied each time. That is is why return to them for current and future needs.

Areas For Improvement - They met or exceeded our expectations for everything. Other consumers talk about what a nightmare a kitchen remodel can be, and we never felt any of that. It did not even feel weird to have employees coming and going as they completed their work, we always felt comfortable with all of the staff. I also felt confident that my pets would not be allowed to sneak out the door and run away, everyone was very careful with our pets and did not make me feel silly for worrying about it.

Recognized Excellence - Andy and Kevin were super. Each seemed in control and aware of the overall momentum of the project, and each anticipated problems before they surfaced. Each also offered creative solutions to oddball problems, always a thing with an older home. We appreciated having a female electrician on the subcontractor crew. Nancy went above the call of duty with her tactful and patient reassurance whenever we were in doubt about a decision, and she walked us through each concern. Nancy and Jackie helped us think about our individual future use of the space in order to make decisions we would be happy to live with and which would yield an improved experience of our new space. We knew we needed changes in our space, but we did not always know what those changes should be. That's where we really relied upon the experience of Nancy and Jackie to help us finish forming our plans. That all meant that we are very very happy with our new space and how it works for us.

We were quite pleased with the initial project design phase. TDS was organized and professional in their communication and information provided. Unfortunately, the project management approach that we initially bought into didn't truly reflect the process and as the construction project progressed, the communication dropped off, mistakes were made, and deadlines were missed. The only way we knew our project was complete was because they took down our TDS yard sign and we were sent the final bill - not quite the closure we'd hoped for.

Getting proactive information and updates during the design phase was the most challenging issue. Weeks would go by without any word and it felt like we had been forgotten. The design phase took longer than we expected (and we were not in a rush) and it ended up taking 6 months for our kitchen and bathroom. Fortunately, we are happy with the design but it has been disappointing to feel that we were never deemed to be an important client or project.

We have used TDS for several large construction projects because their quality and reliability is unmatched.

We are so pleased with the quality and integrity of the work being done by TDS. They are organized, understanding, on top of their game, great communicators, and a pleasure to work with. Its hard to have construction in your house for months, and I truly appreciate people with whom I can trust having my animal babies at home while they work.

We've done a number of projects with several different construction firms in the area. All of them did work we're happy with, but the process with TDS was far and away the best of the bunch. Ben and Sean were delightful to work with throughout, the schedule was totally reasonable, communication was clear, timely and friendly, and we're very very happy with the end result.When we have projects in the future, I don't think we'll look anywhere else.

This is my third construction project with TDS. I was really disappointed with this project. I met with Sam who asked very specific questions as to what I wanted and my preferences. I was very clear that I did not want a separate deadbolt on my door, and that I wanted the door to automatically lock every time it closed. When I was given a choice of hardware to choose from, I made the assumption that what was presented would adhere to what I specified with Sam. That did not happen. The new lock requires a separate deadbolt to be locked from outside every time I leave the house, and while inside the house for security. I am enormously disappointed in my new door, and unhappy there were no appropriate options presented to me as specified. I do take some responsibility in that I probably should have double-checked that the door knob was going to perform how I asked, however the incorrect option should never have been presented to me in the first place. It seems like there was no communication between Sam and Ben.

I have been using TDS Custom Construction since 1997. I would not use anyone else. Their work is always of high quality and their subcontractors are good. If I ever have any questions about the work they are always responsive.

Budget

Budget - I think it's easy for construction budgets to add up quickly but I do think that TDS was realistic about what our project would cost. One thing I really appreciated was knowing how much more my garage doors would have cost going with a painted one vs. a wood grain look. I assumed it was all the same and Sam did a nice job of discussing what the option would cost and having me think about how important having a wood grain look door would be on the side of the garage that only I would see. It helped us make an informed decision since the wood grain look was so much more expensive than painted options. It ultimately didn't matter as the neighborhood wouldn't allow the wood grain look but I appreciated the effort all the same. It felt like Sam and TDS was looking out for my best interest.

Design Favorite - We really appreciated how Nancy listened to our ideas for our kitchen and used our Houzz suggestions to create a kitchen accordingly. We appreciated her help, prompt answers and kind demeanor, as well as her suggestions for our space.

We have used TDS Custom Construction for five different jobs in two houses over 27 years. The number one reason for working with them is that I know the job will be done right. They listen and verify at any juncture. They also bring lots of experience to bear. The house is always carefully prepared and protected. Their commitment to the property and the satisfaction of the customer does not end when the final check is paid. This group takes house building and preservation seriously. When I hear of some of the problems people encounter with other companies, I realize that this is never part of the experience with TDS. They may not be the cheapest, but they may be the best value.
