I reached out to Bob's containers just as containers were starting to catch on (or maybe just before) in the Austin area, circa 2020. Bob and the team were responsive, informative and helpful in creating exactly what I envisioned for my backyard space. Since then, they have continued to support me by coming out and performing warrantied maintenance. They have also been supportive once out of warranty in helping to find what I needed when a third party supplier came up short. I'm considering additional customizations and maybe even additional container(s) to add to the project.
A+ for the entire experience!
I had decent experience with Bob's Containers. Their sales team is great. They went ahead and designed everything I needed for a backyard contianer home. They even used my drawn design.
I used to work in excavation so I had a few ideas on cost savings. We they handled permits and caught some issues I was going to have. Even when I insisted to do it my way they built it to code to cover their liabilty and it worked out well. I dont recommend trying to do this on your own so glad they over ruled me. The owner Bob even called me to say he would cancel and refund if they couldnt build to code. He explained the issues and review they had had when a customer tells them how to build and it doesnt work out.
So after that it extended my build process two weeks but they got it done. I would use them again for my property in Marble Falls next.
Update 11/7/2023: Just finally got around to posting his communication referenced below. If Bob's is offering incentives for positive reviews, please let me know!!
Update 10/28: Bob had once again said he was going to pay and deadline was yesterday. Never heard back. He also wanted this review taken down to free up more capital for some sort of project so he could pay me back more quickly (will post that email shortly). I’ve noticed many of the 5 star reviews lately are from people who haven’t actually purchased anything (based off some of the wording) or purchased but haven’t even started the build process or received there unit. Make what you want of that but to me seems fishy, on top of wanting my review removed to open up more capital. Can’t help but wonder if reviews are being incentivized. Regardless, I’d encourage anyone dealing with this company to either 1) go elsewhere, 2) don’t review a company on a product you purchased but have not yet received, and 3) do not sign a contract that states final payment has to be made before they’ll deliver. .
Update 10/17/23. On 9/13 I sent a more than fair settlement offer which Robert Balderas accepted, but then refused to pay so we had a pre trial hearing on 10/13 (for which he was not present), and now the hearing is scheduled for January. We decided to send a settlement offer because we would rather be done with this and have money in hand. Now we will be going after the full amount in January.
Background: We hired Bob’s Containers for a custom built container home in February 2022 with an estimated completion date of April/May. We had multiple issues with getting the container started and at one point their staff said we could cancel the project since the containers weren’t even scheduled to be built, and we would get a refund after a release agreement was sent. The agreement was never sent and then the owner contacted us and said there were no refunds. That became a whole other issue but ultimately all were in agreement to build. The container was started in July to be completed at the end of August. We were contacted by their finance department on 9/14/2022 and told the container would be ready to ship in 2 days time, and required the remaining 50% balance (over $50,000) which we paid immediately. Turns out, the container was not even close to being ready and would not be ready until the first week of October, 10/4. At that time, they were unable to find a company to ship the containers in a timely manner and I asked if we could find our own shipping company. I was told this was fine as long as they (Bob’s) had a chance to speak to the company to ensure they were capable of providing safe delivery. Craig Turner (Logistics), along with Dustin Hill, the COO, both were involved and confirmed the company we found would be fine, and they would process our refund as soon as the containers left their lot. We paid $15,000 to Bob’s Containers for shipping prior to this as part of the initial invoice. There would be a $500 fee per container withheld for shipping prep (reasonable) with a refund of $14,000. Our shipping company picked up the containers on 10/7/2023.
We reached out multiple times after they were picked up and initially were told the refund process would be started and then they stopped responding for around two weeks. They eventually surfaced and said they needed to process a release contract. We ultimately filed in small claims court at the end of October.
We had a hearing in February, to which Bob’s did not show up. We received a default judgment in our favor, however, Bob’s attorney surfaced within the appeal time period and filed for a new hearing.
I’ve attached the email communications with regards to shipping refunds as proof of above, as well as when their finance team reached out for final payment. As noted before, we had many issues at the start of the container build, and we did have some quality issues including failed code inspections.
Bobs Containers installed a 40ft container home in my backyard. We are using it for the additional dwelling unit and vacation rental. My wife and I are very satisfied on how fast it has paid itself off.
Bobs Containers had it delivered with a pickup truck and tilt trailer that placed it exactly where I wanted it. They unloaded it without a crane or any large equipment like a shed. The container home came fully assembled and there was no onsite construction. The rooftop top deck folds down so the driver unfolded it and it was ready to use.
They arranged for a plumber and electrician to come the next day to connect the power and plumbing. We were fully using it within 3 days.
I highly recommend this company for transparency in the process, speed, and great customer service.
Amazing design service that saved me hours of time! The designer listened to our needs and came up with a few great palettes and tailored her original plan to our specific needs. All this was done through e-mail and video conferencing. I especially appreciated the detailed shong
