This was the most professional company. The workers were all here on time, they were respectful and the job was done on time. We love our new kitchen remodel and the response from the company has been amazing.
Mountainwood is well established in the Portland Metro area with strong relationships with a team of expert tradespeople who have impeccable craftsmanship. They helped us select beautiful, high quality materials while keeping us within our budget and made us feel comfortable to ask questions and make adjustments as our vision evolved. Our kitchen/great room is absolutely beautiful and now accommodates several cooks in the kitchen at once!
I've already recommended and my hairdresser has hired Mountainwood for full house remodel! She definitely asked me about my experience and the final outcome.
Client's Why - We heard about Mountainwood Homes from Randy Sebastian of Renaissance. We have an older Renaissance home and were looking at Randy's new builds, but didn't want to leave our neighborhood or not have lake access as we have in our current home. Randy suggested Mountainwood Homes and to put money into our own home. Happy with the choice.
Before Remodel - I have been updating parts my house in bits at a time over the past 12 years. The primary bath was one of the final pieces and a leak in the primary shower forced the issue. Mountainwood was not pushy in their sales approach but offered thoughtful suggestions and CAD drawings to visualize a new space. Rather than just fixing the shower and doing piecemeal updates, we decided to gut the whole bathroom and start fresh. I'm so happy we went this route as the finished product is truly beautiful and our hope is that it will be more timeless than the old bathroom with its massive glass block shower and travertine.
After Remodel - I wouldn't say my life changed ;), but it is certainly nice to have a beautiful bathroom to use every day! No regrets.
Expertise - From start to finish, Moutainwood had the contractors or contacts to tackle all the unforeseen obstacles, and obstacles always occur in a remodel. Both Mountainwood Homes and the subs they used were truly wonderful. Kind, respectful, trustworthy, became like family throughout the process. While I'm happy the project is complete and my house is no longer a construction site, we enjoyed having this crew.
Schedule - If anything, we were ahead of schedule for most of the project. While final complete sign offs were not done for a few months after the original schedule, we were using the new spaces on the agreed upon timeline and the few odds and ends were not really in the control of Mountainwood...more the glass manufacturer.
Budget - For the most part, yes. If I had 1 complaint, it would be with the budget, but I am not sure how to make that better or more transparent. I think in the early planning, Derek was trying to accommodate our original budget numbers and make a plan work. Things, as a consumer not in the industry, I wouldn't have known is what an $8/sq. foot tile budget looks like, or what a yellow level quartz budget means, or the price of fixtures... We definitely went over budget and I was bummed about that, but also if we were spending the amount we were spending on this remodel, I wanted to get the best we could and products we liked.
Problem Resolution - Excellent communication throughout the process and even now into the warranty period.
Design Solved Needs - I truly needed the guidance and confidence the design team offered. Friendly, knowledgable, and felt like I could ask anything.
Design Knowledge - Love Darby :) She was great in envisioning things I could not and guiding me to decisions, yet not forcing anything. Not sure I could have done this without her!
PM Professionalism - Love David too! David was phenomenal. Fantastic communication, always positive and upbeat, transparent and honest, and perhaps what I loved best was David's attention to detail and unwillingness to cut corners. David made sure things were done correctly, even if it wasn't always the easiest path. I appreciate that very much.
Trade Partners - The best trade partners!! Loved the dry wall crew as they were a blast to have around with their epic music selections, Roman for tile...I don't even have the right words to describe his unbelievable work ethic and beautiful tile setting. He's an artist. There were many more, all were great, but those were my faves.
Trust - I am absolutely trusting Mountainwood Homes to follow through on commitments and their warranty. Our front door was an issue from the get go and MH is already advocating and helping us in what we consider to be an unacceptable door (dirty glass because they didn't clean the INSIDE of the double paned glass before assembling the door so there are like white possible paint overspray lines down all glass panels). I appreciate the 2 year warranty.
Value Received - I actually agree with this. My husband and I definitely had sticker shock at the beginning of the process, but seeing how no corners were cut, the amount of labor involved, the quality of the work and the warranty...I see the value in that upfront price. It was a splurge using Moutainwood Homes, but worth it.
Favorite Part Of Process - My favorite part of the process was probably seeing the tile get installed...that was the first piece of getting a glimpse at what this was actually going to look like :)
Areas Of Satisfaction - Most all areas met or exceeded expectations.
Areas For Improvement - The only thing I was slightly less impressed with was the painting, although they touched up and cleaned up well, but I had to point out areas that were missed, spills /drips, paint that seeped under tape onto baseboards and cabinetry. I really liked the guy who painted the front door though. I felt like he tried very hard to get it right. Sadly, that paint has bubbled in areas and there is a white line (primer from underneath) on the front door lower panel due to the paint cracking. I've noted this in the warranty and think we need to find a better paint to repaint with. The paint that was used is just not holding up and it's only been a few months!
My impression from talking with friends is that Mountainwood is a higher cost remodeling option. If that is in fact accurate, I still believe I received exceptional value from start to finish. Mountainwood has a deep team of friendly, experienced and accessible individuals to assist homeowners with the remodeling needs. I would highly recommend them to others.
Client's Why - This was the second (and hopefully last) project that Mountainwood completed for us. They were very good in taking us through the stages of the project. The presentation and the professionals working there were very good
Invite Back - Yes, of course I would, but as mentoned above, this is the last (Major) project that will be done to this house.
Favorite Part Of Process - Shower. Much better, discreet, and functional..
Areas Of Satisfaction - Expectations met
Recognized Excellence - Cory did well. Darby helped with a visual of how the shower would look before construction began.
Additional Comments - It did help that we were out of the country for 7 weeks while construction started. Was glad to get our bedroom suite back when we did.
Client's Why - We chose to hire Mountainwood Homes in part because they were recommended by a friend.
Before Remodel - Our house needed an update from various other DIY renovations in the past when we purchased it.
After Remodel - We bought the house, had them do the renovations, then moved in. We moved from a condo into a house. Our life has changed significantly for the better. There is good functional flow from the living room to the kitchen. The whole downstairs, everything, has been a vast improvement.
Schedule - We went a little over schedule. More because when you get into a project, there are some open-ended items that you're not sure how long it would take. It was reasonable when we had any minor delays.
Sales Knowledge - Everybody at Mountainwood Homes was very knowledgeable and very helpful.
Design Knowledge - Darby was fantastic.
PM Professionalism - Linda was very professional and very good at stain glass. There was one mishap, and she was able to fix it herself.
Favorite Part Of Process - My favorite part was the actual design process in terms of picking out the different materials, flows, and specific design. It was very enjoyable.
Areas Of Satisfaction - For the most part, they met all expectations. A few places where they exceeded were when it came to opening up the walls and finding incorrectly done DIY work from the previous homeowner. They were able to quickly address it, and consult with us on the options. They were very good and very professional about that and exceeded my expectations.
Areas For Improvement - I don't think there are any expectations that they fell short of at all.
Recognized Excellence - Linda was exceptional in terms of managing everything, coordinating with us, and keeping us well-informed.
The project manager and Mountainwood Homes staff are always very responsive when we have questions or concerns, and the topic under discussion gets resolved quickly. Everyone listens and communicates well.
Client's Why - We worked with MWH for our kitchen "redo" and loved the result. We weren't actually planning the second project at the time of the kitchen redo but decided to move forward with it sooner rather than later and MWH was the clear choice for the job.
Before Remodel - Great! But we wanted to modify the bedrooms and bath on the first floor to allow us to "age in place" and MWH did everything we asked and we love the finished product.
After Remodel - We are still moving into the remodeled spaces - they are not used very much right now because we still access the upstairs rooms.
Expertise - When a contractor or sub is needed, MWH has the necessary relationships to find the right folks for the work.
Schedule - This project went amazing fast!
Budget - We only had 1 unexpected change order because we didn't know what type of flooring was under the walls.
Problem Resolution - The floor was the only challenge
Sales Knowledge - Aamon is helpful and almost spot-on in his assessment of cost and level of detail
Design Solved Needs - We are looking forward to using the room as a guest room until we need to move into it ourselves
Design Knowledge - Darby's sense of style and function was very helpful
PM Professionalism - She definitely is! We are amazed at how much she knows of the various trades. We would love to work with Linda again, she was our PM for the first project as well.
Favorite Part Of Process - Choosing the bath tile and appliances - it's as pretty as I had hoped! And oddly enough I am really enjoying the pocket door between the bath and the laundry room - so glad we made that change order!
Areas Of Satisfaction - Linda is the best PM, she communicates everything with us and gets back to us immediately. MWH staff Raul and Daniel are competent, quiet, and courteous. The quality of the work and the materials used
Recognized Excellence - Everyone is great! At the top is Linda, then Raul and Daniel, and Aamon and Darcy - this was a smaller project than the kitchen project and Darcy didn't get to work with us as much. Aamon is wonderful and clearly knows his stuff!
Additional Comments - We recommend MWH to our friends at the mere mention of a remodel....
Client's Why - Professional and friendly from the first phone call.
Before Remodel - 20 year old Pergo floors, dated cabinets and countertops.
After Remodel - Beautiful CoreTec floors, quartz countertops, cherrywood cabinets and tile backsplash.
Expertise - Craig Jackson was a great project manager, as was Brian, his go to guy. The subcontractors all seemed to be of highest quality.
Budget - They actually did. The additional costs were in replumbing the house.
Design Knowledge - Vicki was fabulous and so was Allison later in the project. They both listened and came up with perfect suggestions.
PM Professionalism - We were so fortunate to have Craig as our PM.
Areas Of Satisfaction - The quality of our choices without extravagant upgrade costs.
Recognized Excellence - As mentioned above, Craig, Brian, Vicki and Allison.
Client's Why - The quality of the representatives and thoroughness of their responses to our questions and concerns.
Before Remodel - Portions of the home were in need of upgrades.
After Remodel - The upgrades have improved our overall satisfaction of it.
Favorite Part Of Process - The quality of the work and its timely completion.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Mountainwood performed as agreed and the quality and cleanliness was outstanding.
Recognized Excellence - What was impressive was the uniform quality and expertise at all levels.
Client's Why - Price, project timeline, reputation, and time spent scoping project.
Before Remodel - Clean slate/blank canvas.
Design Knowledge - Sarah nailed it.
Value Received - I think the pricing was fair.
Favorite Part Of Process - Completion, finally.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Design and product recommendations. Eventual resolution of outstanding punch list items.
Recognized Excellence - Sarah did a great job with design. Craig did his best to add value where he could to resolve issues potentially considered out of scope. Derek kept his cool and was reasonable even when I was upset, and did his best to resolve outstanding items.
Additional Comments - Once I get the furnishings in place I will invite Sarah back to see the end result. I think it would be helpful to see the net results of here design choices and see how the space was transformed.
Client's Why - Customer service and price
Before Remodel - It was fine but the layout wasn’t ideal
After Remodel - It has exceeded our expectations. The layout makes more sense and the bathroom feels updated.
PM Professionalism - Alan handle all the minor issues with a calm and responsive manner. He always responded to my crazy text questions with reassurance that all would be handled correctly.
Trade Partners - Stan the tile person was very detailed on his process and did a 5 star install. We had some minor issues with cabinet installations where some minor damage happened and it appeared to us as they tried covering it up. We would rather had been told about the minor incident then to see a fan cover over the top of it. We know accidents happen and are not mad just disappointed that they didn’t say anything. We reported it to Alan probably before they did and he took care of the issue.
Favorite Part Of Process - The ending where we got to move back into our bedroom and enjoy the new upgrades.
Recognized Excellence - Allan Case took very good care of our remodel. When ever we had issues, he was there to figure out a positive solution. When the new cabinets were installed, he did a better job than me at spotting issues and marking the items to get fixed. When we reported that the carpet transition to our bathroom was not good, he found a better solution that makes it better to step into that room.
Client's Why - I decided to hire Mountainwood Homes because of their reputation.
Before Remodel - My home before the remodel was fine.
After Remodel - Regarding how my home life has changed since completing my project, we are enjoying the shower.
Favorite Part Of Process - My favorite part was probably the design process.
Areas Of Satisfaction - They met or exceeded my expectations with their subcontractors.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Greg for his exceptional service. He did a great job.
Client's Why - Mountainwood Homes was recommended by people I know.
Before Remodel - My home before the remodel was not remolded.
After Remodel - My house is more useful after completing the project.
Favorite Part Of Process - The design process was my favorite part of the process.
Areas Of Satisfaction - The design process met or exceeded my expectations.
Client's Why - Beginning to end service: design through construction. Basically a one-stop shop.
Before Remodel - Small kitchen, large unused formal living room, fragmented floorplan
After Remodel - Overall flow is much better; all spaces are now useful and fit our lifestyle.
Expertise - From design (Sierra), to project management (Alan), we never had a concern or doubt.
Schedule - Mountainwood exceeded our expectations with a tight, efficient, 10-week schedule.
Budget - Any overages were because we tacked-on additional wants.
Problem Resolution - Any questions or issues were resolved within 24 hours.
Design Knowledge - She's the best and helped us to make dozens of choices with ease.
PM Professionalism - We only want to work with Alan!
Clean & Safe - The crew was cleaner than our family.
Trade Partners - Couldn't be happier with the quality of work and level of communications for all the trades.
Value Received - Worth every penny!
Invite Back - Working with them on a refresh for our family room.
Favorite Part Of Process - The final product!
Areas Of Satisfaction - 100% satisfied with the entire process and everyone involved.
Recognized Excellence - Alexy is an amazing carpenter, he's a perfectionist and it shows in his work.
Client's Why - They were referred to us by a builder that we respect and trust greatly. He had moved to Texas, and we were not able to hire him.
Before Remodel - It was a very nice home. We love it, but we just wanted a new kithcen.
After Remodel - We have a new kitchen.
Favorite Part Of Process - I really appreciate all the workers who did the work. They were incredible, professional, interactive, and delightful.
Areas Of Satisfaction - They met all my expectations.
Areas For Improvement - I would like my ladder to be a bit bigger. It looked fine, but now that we have used it, it is too short. It is hard to reach the higher cabinets. I would have liked to have a larger ladder.
Recognized Excellence - Every single person was super. The only thing we didn't like was that the designer had to leave, and we had a new designer to replace them toward the end. That was our only great disappointment. While the new designer was fine, we hadn't made the connection with her that we did with the original one.
Additional Comments - It was a marvelous experience, with the exception that just before the end we had to change designers. That is my biggest criticism. Other than that, they were fabulous. There were just issues that they were dealing with on business aspect end they had to follow, and we had to fall into to what the solution was. However, they were very good, and we would recommend them.
Very professional team to work with. Craig, my project manager was the best at execution and notifications of any changes or issues that came up. We can't forget our designer, Sierra. She saved us weeks by asking questions before we went to pick products.
Client's Why - When they came out to look over the project there was no hard sell to sign up today. They were flexible with idea changes to fit our budget.
Before Remodel - very dated and worn
After Remodel - It's like a new house!!!
Budget - Hhad a few change orders. But the original bid was spot on!
Problem Resolution - This is where they shine. Anytime we had an issue we discussed them professionally and without attitude. Ammon was a great communicator.
Sales Knowledge - Again, Ammon is a master in communication.
Design Knowledge - We've done many remodels without designers. After working with Sierra I will never do it again. She made my wife very happy, and that made me very happy!
PM Professionalism - Craig was great to work with. Always easy to get ahold of and discuss ongoing stages of the project.
Trust - They did!!
Value Received - It was expensive but worth it!!
Overall Experience - Best contractor team I have ever worked with. I have worked with the mechanical trades for many years and never have we experienced a smoother execution.
Before Remodel - Dated, 1990’s kitchen and bath
After Remodel - Updated kitchen, master bath and relocated a half bath to use the space more efficiently
Budget - Yes, anything we added we wanted.
Design Solved Needs - For the most part we are very happy with the new design. Ivan was great!
Areas Of Satisfaction - We are happy with the design of the new layout and overall look of the end product.
MWH was great at the start but employs subs that do sub par work and then when called out on it takes weeks if not months to resolve. Not to mention they are not getting any preferred pricing or scheduling with their subs. They are great at sales and smooth talking. I am sad that we wasted so much time and money by using them.
Client's Why - We have worked with them before and they always do a great job. Knowledgeable, reputable, easy to work with…top notch!
Before Remodel - Needed an update!
After Remodel - I love my new bathroom and barn door.
Problem Resolution - We had a problem with the glass in the bar door. It was replaced without any problems.
Favorite Part Of Process - Design
Areas Of Satisfaction - All areas
Areas For Improvement - None
Recognized Excellence - Robert, Heather, Greg, Andrew, Eddie
They are professional and did everything so good that I would definitely recommend them. They clean the area each day and worked very professionally.
Client's Why - We decided to hire Mountainwood Homes after seeing them at a Home Show. They came out, gave us a quote, and explained everything they were going to do. We liked the way they explained everything, so that is the point we decided to go with them.
Before Remodel - We remodeled all of our bathrooms. My house was constructed in the 80's, and we always wanted to get the remodel done.
After Remodel - Our home life has changed greatly since completing the project.
Favorite Part Of Process - Everything was good. Even though we worked from home, we never felt like we were disturbed. Things went very smoothly. We never felt like we had to manage our things in a separate way or anything like that. Greg used to come every day and update us with what was happening, and we were made aware of the schedule and things ahead of time. The website is really good; I used to look at it every day to know what was going to happen the next day. They followed the schedule 100%, but they would finish way ahead. They are very professional, good, and we had a very pleasant experience.
Areas Of Satisfaction - They met/exceeded my expectations in all areas.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Eddie, Greg Spangler, Darby Sargent, and Ammon Hardy for their exceptional service. The gentleman that did the tile work and was really good; I think his name was Roman.
Additional Comments - Everything went smoothly. If any other work comes up, I wouldn't look anywhere else; I would use Mountainwood Homes.
Client's Why - Greg was very friendly during our initial meeting and it seemed we could do our project in our budget.
Before Remodel - It was nice but we had a very small interior kitchen. There was a poor use of space between kitchen, laundry, den, and half bath.
After Remodel - The kitchen is so much better, relocated to an area with new windows that bring in lots of light. We also have a dedicated laundry room and a bathroom with a shower and a sweet little nook for our TV den. The use of space is vastly improved!
Problem Resolution - The problems that came up early in construction were ultimately addressed and resolved.
Design Solved Needs - Sarah and Ivan were wonderful in coming up with several designs for us to choose from, and then adjusting our selected design.
Design Knowledge - Sarah was amazing!
Favorite Part Of Process - The design process, and completion!
Areas Of Satisfaction - Design, the final outcome, and the warranty period. I also really appreciated having BuilderTrend as a central platform for the project.
Recognized Excellence - Sarah Peek!
I would absolutely recommend Mountainwood without hesitation to anyone remodeling their home. They developed a comprehensive plan that put our needs into action and completed it on time and on budget
.
Client's Why - We needed to remodel after having some mold remediated by Oregon Restoration. After.considering our options, Mountainwood listened to our wants, concerns and presented a comprehensive realistic renovation plan within our budget.
Before Remodel - Our home before the remodel was dated, dark with limited functionality. The kitchen had limited storage space and an old stove. Our living room has been taken down to studs for mold remediation
After Remodel - Wow! We actually enjoy being in our home. It's a bright, incredibly functional home that we love being in now.
Schedule - In spite of challenges during the project, Dustin was able to complete our remodel within the schedule timeline set at the onset.
Design Knowledge - Darby was amazing ! My wife and I couldn't have done this remodel without her. She was incredible in helping us narrow design choices. Her vision in design was key to our success.
PM Professionalism - Dustin was great! He kept us informed and addressed our concerns when we were unsure of the next steps in the remodel. He also made sure to let us know about changes in the schedule and times we needed to be out of our home.
Invite Back - I would absolutely hire them for another project at our home.
Favorite Part Of Process - Our favorite part was seeing how mountainwood could transform our home into a concrete actionable plan with their design vision after seeing and speaking with us. We had the most fun with selecting our choices with Darby.
Areas For Improvement - During our project completing the electrical work seemed to be a problem. We were fortunate that Dustin was able to work around the electrician manpower shortage and still get things done on time. It was a bit frustrating to get out appliances installed in the house without the necessary electrical to operate them .
Recognized Excellence - A special thanks to Darby for guiding us through the design selections, answering my endless questions. We couldn't have done it without you! Dustin: Thank you for taking such good care of our home, keeping things on schedule and indulging our crazy golden retriever Beau.
Client's Why - We discovered that MountainWood Home offers more than what a general contractor can. This company takes a comprehensive approach. They have design, electrical, construction, painting, woodwork, building oversight, and more. MountainWood Homes is different from other contractors that we’ve worked with. Though we loved our past contractor, he retired, so finding MountainWood Home was a great find for us.
Before Remodel - Our very old bathroom badly needed an update.
After Remodel - We love the updated bathroom! Too bad it’s upstairs and we can’t show it off to company.
Expertise - Loved working with everyone at MoutainHome.
Schedule - Any time that the schedule slipped, it was totally understandable.
Design Knowledge - We loved working with Vicki. She did great job working with us to come up with a great final design.
PM Professionalism - Linda kept the project moving along! She was good at communicating with us throughout the entire process.
Favorite Part Of Process - Working with Vicki to finalize our design plans.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Loved the software that kept us abreast of what was happening throughout and also made it possible to make payments no matter where we were, such as out of town.
Recognized Excellence - Both Vicki and Linda
Additional Comments - Thank you for an excellent job!
Client's Why - We felt comfortable that they knew exactly how we needed this project to be done, and why. They seemed pretty reasonable at the time with the pricing.
Before Remodel - It was in pretty bad shape structurally. We needed the work to be done.
After Remodel - It has changed drastically. I feel a lot safer and everything feels more solid and confined. We don't feel a draft coming in.
Favorite Part Of Process - My favorite part was definitely the selections with the designer, Sarah Peek. She did a great job.
Areas Of Satisfaction - They exceeded my expectations with the timeline, with how drastic this project was. Even with the flooring mishap. I think it would have been done faster without the flooring mishap. They were pretty clear with the process from start to finish. We have never done a remodel before, so that was nice.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Alan and Sarah. We talked with them the most and they did a great job.
We have already recommended Mountainwood Homes to several friends, and one has engaged them for a bid. We will continue to recommend Mountainwood because the staff we worked with listen and communicate well, the quality of the construction is excellent, the design process (which we had very little of in our kitchen "re-do") is fun and engaging, and the use of Buildertrend for calendar details and updates worked well. The payment system is easy to use, and the billing process throughout the life of the project made it easy to anticipate when a payment was coming due. The staff problem-solved on the go and everything looks beautiful - you would never know there were a few issues hiding in the walls!
Client's Why - Price point - we received bids from 2 design/build firms and Mountainwood was slightly lower in cost.
Before Remodel - Kitchen re-do: the kitchen was hard to keep clean (tile and grout) and tidy - there was not enough storage space to put things away easily.
Expertise - Linda was an excellent project manager. Scheduling might be even better if all contractors worked for Mountainwood, although there could still be scheduling snafus if unforseen issues arose that messed up scheduling.
Problem Resolution - Linda was AWESOME on this topic! as was Aamon and Angela. Thank you!!
Sales Knowledge - Aamon and especially Angela were excellent and very helpful
Design Solved Needs - Absolutely - as mentioned earlier, the replacement of the lower cabinets with drawers has made an amazing difference for us.
Design Knowledge - Angela was. very patient, kind, respectful, knowledgable, and observant. There were things she identified that never crossed my mind. She also listens and communicates well, and remembers details.
PM Professionalism - and helpful, patient, kind, and a jack of all trades - she knows her stuff! Most importantly - she listens ad communicates well and in a timely manner, something that is very important to us. And she remembers details! Thank you Linda!
Clean & Safe - We were most concerned about our indoor-only cats, but Linda communicated the issue to the contractors and they were careful not to let the cats out.
Trust - This came mostly through Linda, and she was impressive, remembering everything we talked about (especially given that she was managing other projects).
Overall Experience - Same as above, we don't have any other projects to compare with. But all in all we were treated veery well by all Mountainwood staff and by the contractors as well.
Favorite Part Of Process - The beginning when we discussed design and materials. I've been thinking about the project for at least 5 years and when we started it was hard to believe we were finally doing it!
Areas Of Satisfaction - We really didn't have any expectations, but the one area where we were impressed is when we had an issue with one of the counter tops, Linda didn't argue with us, she took action to have it replaced
Recognized Excellence - Angela and Linda were outstanding!
Additional Comments - Mountainwood Homes is easy to work with and all of their project staff listen and communicate really well. We are very happy with our new kitchen and happy with our decision to use Mountainwood Homes as our design/build firm.
Client's Why - Referral from Tim Vanderberg, had a good experience with Ivan and Sierra.
Before Remodel - fully remodeled 1970's split level
After Remodel - We love the end result. It turned into exactly what we were hoping for.
Expertise - Alan and Aleksey were great to work with and super friendly and accommodating to our family as we lived in the home during the project.
Design Solved Needs - Its an absolutely amazing end result and we are beyond thrilled.
Design Knowledge - Absolutely amazing. would give more stars if possible. We wouldn't have hired mountainwood without Sierra and Sarah was just starting but super helpful too. Ivan and Sierra turned out house into a forever home.
PM Professionalism - Absolutely LOVE Alan. The guy is a stud. Gave amazing recommendations along the way for things we should think about and add to the scope that made tons of sense and we;re so grateful we did. He wouldn't let anything go that wasn't perfect to a high standard that he would accept. we had LOTS of challenges on our project and he was gracious in explaining and keeping us updated immediately even if it was bad news or broker waterlines, or dealing with the MOB (PGE). If we ever use Mt wood again we'd really
Favorite Part Of Process - That its done! (almost)
Areas Of Satisfaction - Alan did a great job of communication and keeping me updated and responding to my requests and questions. Sierra did an outstanding job of understanding our style desires and helping make the selection process enjoyable and efficient.
Recognized Excellence - Alan, Aleksey and Sierra
Additional Comments - We truly love the end result and look forward to the couple of warranty and final hit list items to get finished up in the spring when the weather turns.
Client's Why - Their communication and process in the beginning was fabulous and clear, you could tell they were a great company from the start.
Before Remodel - We had an original 1959 home that had never been remodeled.
After Remodel - It's so wonderful, we always loved the home and now it's functional, cozy and modern!
Favorite Part Of Process - Everything honestly! From design to construction, seeing the process daily was awesome!
Areas Of Satisfaction - Exceed ALL!
Areas For Improvement - None.
Recognized Excellence - Sierra, Ammon, Craig, Brian, Justin, Office gals, everyone! Such a great team, I already miss them!
Additional Comments - Can't wait to work with you again!
Client's Why - Initial consultation showed that the Mountainwood team were good listeners, honest, enjoyed what they were doing and were very focused on providing the highest level of service to their clients.
Before Remodel - Our primary bathroom needed updating and was not meeting our needs fully.
After Remodel - Our primary bathroom is so much more functional and attractive with beautiful finishes. The Mountainwood team was highly focused on creating an excellent design and executed well on the design during the construction phase.
Problem Resolution - The design and construction team were highly responsive throughout the process
Design Knowledge - Angela was excellent in listening to us, generating creative ideas and very enjoyable to work with. Angela was very detailed oriented and it was easy to communicate with her.
PM Professionalism - David was excellent to work with and very responsive to anything expected or unexpected that came up during the project. David was very on top of the project.
Value Received - This isn't specific to Mountainwood. Prices for construction have gone up over the last several years so the project budget was above our initial expectation.
Favorite Part Of Process - Both the design and the construction.
Recognized Excellence - Ammon, Angela and David were all excellent. We would want them as our team on any future projects.
Client's Why - They had a Showroom, CAD and BuilderTrend App
Before Remodel - Dark kitchen cabinets and floor
After Remodel - So much lighter and brighter!
Problem Resolution - We had a couple cabinet issues but they were resolved.
Favorite Part Of Process - Going with Darby to make our selections
Areas Of Satisfaction - We are overall very happy with our remodel!
finding a contractor that offers more than demo and rebuild is important. MH brings so much more with design and materials selections. and trust that the project will really be worth the time and expense.
Client's Why - we have had two home projects done by MH and they are both high quality and on time.
Favorite Part Of Process - just seeing the whole transformation is worth it
Additional Comments - it is worth investing in your home and it is important who you trust to make it happen. thank you MH.
Client's Why - Full solution remodel, strong history in the industry, good vision
Before Remodel - Dated and needing of functional improvements
After Remodel - Beautiful and functional
Favorite Part Of Process - Design
Areas Of Satisfaction - Build quality, on schedule, on budget
Recognized Excellence - Darby! Her design expertise and guidance made all the difference with this renovation
Client's Why - We were impressed by the employees at our initial meetings.
Before Remodel - The bathrooms were very poorly done and deteriorating.
After Remodel - The bathrooms are beautiful and much more functional. We are no longer embarrassed to have guests use the bathrooms!
Trade Partners - Almost all of the trades were FANTASTIC. The painters could be more thorough.
Invite Back - Absolutely - plan to!
Favorite Part Of Process - Watching the transformation - it was exciting.
Areas Of Satisfaction - I was particularly impressed with the friendliness and capability of the Mountainwood staff and trades. Good people all around.
Areas For Improvement - I wouldn’t say they fell short of my expectations, necessarily, but the painters could have been better.
Recognized Excellence - Everyone we worked with was excellent. Cory, Sarah, Ammon, Tino and Jose!
Additional Comments - Working with a contractor that you and your friends and family have no previous experience with is daunting. Mountainwood did a fantastic job and was easy to work with. We are very pleased and plan to work with Mountainwood again!
Yes we would recommend. Would make it clear about communication and planning inspections.
Client's Why - Reputation and neighbors recommendation
Before Remodel - Just out of date, mid 80’s construction and several functions were no longer working
After Remodel - Areas of the house are more functional and most functions up to date and improved
Expertise - Excellent work, they need to pay attention to details. Details are the difference between very nice and excellent
Schedule - Yes
Budget - Preplanning would reduce the number of changes. We accept changes because of our change of mind but not ones that should be recognized up front by inspection.
Problem Resolution - Need to be very persistent.
Sales Knowledge - Excellent
Design Solved Needs - Excellent
Design Knowledge - The best.
Trade Partners - Most excellent
Trust - Yes
Value Received - Excellent
Favorite Part Of Process - Design and walk through
Areas Of Satisfaction - Materials used
Recognized Excellence - Heather, Derek and Cory
Client's Why - Referred by a friend
Before Remodel - Recently purchased this home which was 30 years old and in need of some upgrades.
After Remodel - The remodel was a bathroom. The improvement made the master bath more usable.
Favorite Part Of Process - Working with Angela
Recognized Excellence - Angela
Client's Why - I chose Mountainwood Homes as I asked for competitive bids, and they were one of the firms that met with me at the house. We ran through ideas based on what we wanted to do. They responded with a fair estimate of what it was going to be. From there, they brought out professionals to measure cabinets, appliances, lighting fixtures, and tile. They had a specific plan in mind to put it together using their in-house professionals. One was concentrated on the subcontractors, and we got to meet with them and achieve what we wanted. It was well organized and what we wanted.
Before Remodel - Our home was nice, and we could have lived in it, but it was better, and we have brought it up-to-date. We made improvements.
After Remodel - It has been great. The kitchen is now how we wanted it rearranged. We have a wet bar that is fully contained, where we can make drinks and not use up the kitchen. It is more functional and comfortable for us.
Favorite Part Of Process - Getting it done and getting my kitchen back was my favorite part of the process.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Everything met and exceeded my expectations. When they were here, they did additional work that was not involved in the kitchen remodel, such as lighting in additional rooms such as a bedroom or dining room, and they did it without hesitation. That was included in the kitchen remodel. I like the flexibility with which they could do side projects for me.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Dustin for his exceptional service. Jeremiah was one of the electricians they brought out, and he was exceptionally good. Enrique was out here quite a bit and often, and he was very dependable. They did a good job.
Additional Comments - We are considering having our master bathroom remodeled and are definitely thinking about getting Mountainwood Homes involved with that as well.
Client's Why - We previously did a job with them. They did a great job, so we hired them again.
Before Remodel - Our home was dated before the remodel.
After Remodel - We are much happier with the end result. It is more comfortable and functional!
Favorite Part Of Process - Craig Jackson was fantastic to work with. He had excellent communication, excellent professionalism, and cared about doing a quality job!
Areas Of Satisfaction - The design, design quality, and project management exceeded my expectations.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Craig Jackson for his exceptional service.
Client's Why - Easy to work with - straight forward and transparent. Also, friendly.
Before Remodel - We built a custom home adjacent to a small, older home which we initially thought we'd add on to.
After Remodel - We love our custom home.
Schedule - Yes, in as much was in their control. We built in the covid era, but post lockdowns.
Design Solved Needs - We did not remodel.
Design Knowledge - Darby was excellent to work with. We really appreciate her input and guidance.
PM Professionalism - We really enjoyed working with Alan. He was responsive, and easy to work and communicate with.
Favorite Part Of Process - Picking out interior components (tile, cabinets, etc). My husband designed the home, so he enjoyed that.
Areas Of Satisfaction - It is a well-oiled machine. They took everything off our hands, which is what we were hoping for. Also, after our house was built, any warranty issues that arose were not ignored and quickly addressed, which was impressive and appreciated.
Areas For Improvement - Most of the short comings were related to mildly suboptimal work by contractors. I don't think this is something Mountainwood can control, however, as it seems to be somewhat pervasive. Nonetheless, Mountainwood was responsive to our complaints and would ask the contractors to re-do or fix what we thought was deficient.
Recognized Excellence - The team we worked with, Alan and Darby, were excellent.
I would highly recommend Mountainwood Homes to a friend, provided they could afford the service. It's wonderful to know all staff and trade partners are highly professional and competent.
Client's Why - This was our second project with Mountainwood Homes. They did a great job on the first project.
Before Remodel - Kitchen needed updating.
After Remodel - Home life has not changed, but enjoying the refreshed kitchen and new appliances.
Design Knowledge - Angela is the best! She is a big reason why we wanted MH to assist with the kitchen remodel.
PM Professionalism - Craig kept track of everything and made sure installations were correct. Even though our project was relatively small and he had several big projects going, he never let us feel like we were less important customers.
Favorite Part Of Process - Making selections with Angela's assistance.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Fixing the wonky trim on the windows.
Areas For Improvement - Nothing
Recognized Excellence - Angela, Craig, and Brian
Client's Why - Based on their reputation and a bad past experience with another company
Problem Resolution - Especially Alan - he was very helpful throughout!!
Design Knowledge - Angela was wonderful to work with!!
PM Professionalism - Alan was terrific and very helpful! Good communicator, too!
Favorite Part Of Process - Seeing the end product.
Recognized Excellence - Alan and Angela were both GREAT!
team is very responsive to clients and product quality is very high
Client's Why - good management team, good quality subs, responsive to clients
Before Remodel - our home was nice but needed some updates to fit our current phase of life
After Remodel - our home now fits our lifestyle and we can't believe how well it turned out
Schedule - covid transit and shipping delays caused some issues that i don't anticipate will be a problem in future projects
Problem Resolution - we were pleased with every issue resolution
PM Professionalism - this project's success is due primarily to Davids stewardship. He is a remarkable representative for Mountainwood.
Clean & Safe - We moved out for 9 months but the job continued for 6+ more months after we moved back in. Everyone who came in the house was respectful and solicitous of our home and took care to keep a clean and safe job site.
Trade Partners - Great partners
Trust - High level of commitment to get the job completed to client standard
Value Received - very happy with the finished product
Overall Experience - job went quite long but worth it!
Favorite Part Of Process - watching plans on paper become reality
Areas Of Satisfaction - project managers steady leadership and his excellent team made this project a success.
Areas For Improvement - Had some problems with initial design. We had to get past the "this can't be done" phase to find solutions to some build/design ideas. We did so, and everything was accomplished.
Recognized Excellence - David Bonfiglio and Gaspar
Additional Comments - We were demanding but patient clients and Mountainwood met all of our high standards cheerfully in every phase of the project. Well done! Thank you!
They have a problem communicating among the various departments.
Client's Why - We were referred to them by others.
Before Remodel - It was extremely dated.
After Remodel - We have an updated home.
Areas Of Satisfaction - The bathroom remodel met my expectations.
Recognized Excellence - Alan was exceptional.
Mountainwood is a turnkey solution that is very productive and useful and brings much value to a renovation project.
Client's Why - For us, the reason was the value. We've hired a general contractor in the past during renovations. You end up doing more managing than you want. The contractor may or may not have subcontractors to use. During and after Covid, contractors were backed up, timelines were out, and materials were on hold. We didn't want to wait to build a home. That led to Google and Yelp searches. I called the main number and had a lovely conversation. We knew it would be a little more. You don't have to deal with the scheduling and the headache of subcontractors. There is so much detail in doing a house renovation. We picked them because of the initial contacts. We knew going into the design phase, if we didn't feel right about it, we could walk away. We decided to proceed and we certainly do not regret it at all. Working with them has been top-notch. You get the impression they're not just a couple of guys. You knew they had a good size staff without being ginormous. They still have the personal touch. They have several project managers, designers, and other people. They were able to work with us. They didn't have too much going on that would delay our project like other places. Once we got locked and loaded, the schedule just rolled. Our project never sat idle for a subcontractor that wasn't available. The best part was having them coordinate everything for us. We didn't live here at the time. We would come over from time to time and make decisions. We never had to come over and find out that someone didn't show. Our project manager, Eric would ask us questions, get our feedback, and move forward. The program manager was Ammon Hardy. He gave us the scope of the work. He came up with a solution that was a little bit more budget-friendly. They gave us options for things like floors and prices for different styles. The designer, Darby Sargent, helped us by understanding our likes, form, and function. She figured out how to design a space for us. Darby always offered encouragement, support, and knowledge. She really knows her job. At Mountainwood Homes you are getting an army of people used to working together to get things done. Once we were in contract, we worked with the designer at different shops, making decisions. She curated things with her vendors to reduce costs and coordinate for us. That's a big-time saver. She brought a ton of knowledge. There are people behind the scenes doing the purchasing and coordinating of all the things. In California, I was way more involved in the logistics because I thought I had to be. I had to coordinate deliveries and drop-offs. We didn't have to do any of that. It just magically happened. Greg Spangler, our project manager, has the most grace under pressure. He's just awesome. I've never seen him say a harsh word. Where they show their true merit is where things go wrong. They really work through the situation. Greg is the best of the best. I didn't meet the other project managers. Greg went on a family trip and made sure that he introduced us to someone that would be available in his absence. He also picked a time in the project when things could happen without him. Cindy is part of the support staff for Darby. Eddie was the primary worker on our project. There were several other guys toward the end of the project that were great to work with.
Before Remodel - We bought this home as a rental property that was in poor shape. The basic bones of the house were ok. The electrical turned out to be the most expensive thing. The house was built in 1989. The electrical was terrible. We're used to homes in California built in the 1940s or 1950s. So this home wasn't old to us. The floors were bad. When we opened the walls, we had to rerun most of the electricity in the home. There were code violations and fire hazards. I got to learn a little bit about construction during the process. I took photos of the progress. When the walls were still open in the kitchen, these plates had to be put up where there were screws or nails close to the copper wiring. The electrical was a nightmare. Now we feel like everything is safe and up to code. We've done a lot to give this house a new start where it will be functional for decades.
After Remodel - It's just been wonderful! It still feels upside down because we haven't unpacked. We didn't move in until June 22nd. Mountainwood was done by the end of April. We had a few projects after Mountainwood that were just recently completed. We had the closets done, re-insulation, and the air ducts cleaned. We kept adding things too. After we hired Mountainwood again to paint the exterior of our home. Our main focus was the inside. Things just have to happen in phases. We love it! The windows treatments went up yesterday. They are just lovely. It's functional and stylish. The kitchen looks fabulous. I'm looking forward to everyday life here. My kitchen island is covered with so much. We were in rental for 18 months before moving here. This kitchen is mostly drawers which is what I always wanted. We had customer cabinets done. I like to have things very functional. Every place has its own spot.
Expertise - The competency, experience, and problem-solving raise the confidence level while working with Mountainwood Homes.
Clean & Safe - The site was always kept safe. I never felt unsafe when coming in here. When Greg wanted us to stay out of a certain area, he would tell us.
Trade Partners - They come with different personalities and communication skills. They were all professional. A lot of times, you don't have interaction with trade partners. It was mainly through Greg. Every interaction was fantastic.
Value Received - Things always cost more than you think. I have no other experience with a design-build firm like this. I would say the value for my money was worth it. If I just compare it to other renovations, yes I did receive a fair value. Time will tell if certain things hold up.
Invite Back - I would definitely invite Moutainwood Homes back for another project!
Favorite Part Of Process - I have so many favorite parts. The demo was my favorite process. I got to see the layers of all the bad in this house, to get down to its bones. The demo was quite impressive.
Areas Of Satisfaction - The coordination and project management exceeded our expectations.
Areas For Improvement - It would have been nice to have been done sooner. Everyone going through a renovation says that. Things take time.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Greg Spangler for his exceptional service. In the beginning, he set up a group text, and that worked out very well. He put it out there for both of us. He always involved both of us. That's a skill!
Additional Comments - If future prospective clients have sticker shock, know that is normal and to be expected. Just know that they will work with you. Work with them and you will not be unhappy with the result. It's a scary proposition once you're in a contract. You're entrusting them to a pretty big project. Then they constantly meet and exceed your expectations. They do have a marketing tagline where they have customers for life. That's so true! They foster clientele for the long run. They're just not trying to make a buck and leave you with a headache. They really want to get it done right. One thing that made me happy was the amount of detail they coordinated. The builder trend software is ok, but it could have been better. That's just me being nit-picky. Mountainwood definitely excels in knowing construction and the relationships they have with all their trade partners.
Client's Why - I decided to hire Mountainwood Homes because they seem to be the best for estimates.
Before Remodel - My home before the remodel was fine. They did the bathroom. It didn't change much about the complexity of my home.
After Remodel - My life changed since having an extra shower that we didn't have before.
Favorite Part Of Process - My favorite part of the process was the completion.
Areas Of Satisfaction - We had some issues at the beginning where they made a mistake. They had to fix something that was not in the initial plan. They did a good job taking care of that.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize a guy they used named Gasper. He did a lot of small jobs to finish things up for us.
The experience has been overall extremely positive. Looking back at the complexity of what I was dealing with, the entire team has always been with me and helping at every step of the way. Truly truly appreciated.
Client's Why - My friends Evi and Michael recommended you and thought very highly of you and your work.
Client's Why - Mountainwood Homes was recommended to us from a friend who is a retired contractor.
Before Remodel - We just remodel a porch into a four-seasons room. The porch was falling apart.
After Remodel - We are able to entertain more comfortably and expect to spend more time out there in extreme weather. It will be really nice in the winter!
Design Solved Needs - The design absolutely solved my remodeling needs.
Design Knowledge - Vicki Enger was the best!
Trade Partners - I was very impressed with the trade partners of Mountainwood Homes!
Trust - They have already followed through on commitments!
Favorite Part Of Process - My favorite part of the process was talking to all the employees and contracting people. I thought the guys were problem solvers, as opposed to just coming in and doing something. We had an issue with the roofline and the water coming down. It took a few tries, and they had to try a few different things, but they were focused on solving the problem as opposed to coming in, doing something, and leaving saying they did their job.
Areas Of Satisfaction - They met/exceeded all of our expectations. We were very impressed. The initial contact, the walkthrough at the beginning, the whole computer-assisted design, the designer, the plan, the billing, and keeping us on schedule were all very professional. We were never in the dark, and the quality of the work was very good.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Gaspar for his exceptional service. The framers were contractors, but they were very good. David Bonfiglio was very good. I was very impressed with Vicki and Ivan.
Additional Comments - Mountainwood Homes exceeded our expectations! You always have a fear of dealing with another contractor, especially when you don't know them, but they very quickly put us at ease because they were so professional.
Client's Why - They were the most responsive of all the companies we talked to. They were the only one of five companies that offered to come see our house before any sort of agreement.
Before Remodel - It was just a little small and didn't have dedicated office spaces.
After Remodel - We have so much more space! And dedicated work spaces which is vital since we both work at home.
Favorite Part Of Process - I thought the builder trend app and updates were really useful
Areas Of Satisfaction - They kept the site clean and safe and the workers were so kind.
Recognized Excellence - Enrique! Always in a good mood.
Client's Why - I decided to hire Mountainwood Homes because I needed to have some remodeling done.
Before Remodel - We needed specific fixes for us to customize our home to our case.
After Remodel - It is lovely.
Favorite Part Of Process - My favorite part of the process was picking out the materials.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Mountainwood Homes met and exceeded my expectations because the communication was good.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Linda and Sarah. They were both great to work with.
Mountainwood Homes is a professional company that is so easy to work with. Robert and Heather Woods are fantastic!
Client's Why - I hired Mountainwood Homes because of their reputation and we know them.
Before Remodel - My home was a 1960s small cap-code home with great bones before the remodel.
After Remodel - Our dream came true! It is unbelievable on our three acres!
Sales Knowledge - Vicki Enger was fabulous!
Favorite Part Of Process - My favorite part of the process was to see our collaborative design come to fruition and actually worked on the footprint as planned.
Areas Of Satisfaction - They follow through with everything with their commitment.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize our team Vicki Enger, Alan Case, and Alexey for their exceptional service
Client's Why - We knew Mountainwood would do a beautiful job - this is our 6th project with MWH. We're "clients for life!"
Before Remodel - Outdated bathrooms! 1990 style oak cabinets and dated blue tile.
After Remodel - We LOVE our new bathrooms! They are functional and beautiful - we are extremely pleased with how they turned out!
Budget - All remodels seem to go over budget a bit, but this one took a $2,000 hit because of a GFI circuit that had to be added. We do wish we'd known that at onset.
Problem Resolution - We always have confidence that MWH will "make it right," if a glitch comes up!
Design Knowledge - Always!! The design process with Heather is always a highlight!
Trust - This is why we keep coming back!!
Favorite Part Of Process - Design! Working with the painters (Andres!).
Areas Of Satisfaction - We love the finished"product!"
Recognized Excellence - Aleksey! Felipe! Alan! Heather!
Additional Comments - THANK YOU - we love our new bathrooms!
Client's Why - I decided to hire Mountainwood Homes because I had worked with them in the past.
Before Remodel - My home before the remodel had not changed since it was built in 1994.
After Remodel - Mountainwood Homes did a full kitchen remodel and remodeled three bathrooms and the utility room. They are all modern, up to date, and appear to be current.
Schedule - They did not adhere to the original schedule, but did provide updates, so we knew when it would skip.
Favorite Part Of Process - My favorite part of the process was our interaction with both Cory and Sierra, as well as the design and the process.
Areas Of Satisfaction - My expectations were high because we had worked with them in the past. They met my expectations.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Sierra. She was exceptional, did a great job, and was very efficient.
