We would definitely use Solid State for any future construction projects. From the first day of meeting with Jeff right through the final day of clean up, we were impressed with everything. The final product is amazing- we are still getting compliments from neighbors and passerbys on how much improved the house looks! The workmanship was impressive, with so much attention to detail and finishing touches. We also appreciated how much care the team gave our home and yard, cleaning up every day and leaving it looking beautiful.
They did a great job, quality and timeline. All of the neighbors agree!
They did great work. They did James Hardy Siding. We did half the house, which took the most beating from the weather in the fall of 2022. We were so happy with how it turned out, we had them come back out for the rest of the house.
If we bought another house or knew someone who was updating we'd heartily recommend Solid State. Personable, professional, great staff and managers. Everyone should copy their style of project completion.
Water damage, incompetence, waste of money. Don't let Solid State onto your property.
I contracted with Solid State to redo my siding and replace the decking and rails on my cantilevered balcony in the fall of 2019. It was a roughly $50K job. Everything looked good at first, though I have to say that Jeff Brooks was a pain to deal with. For example, when his crew gouged my brand new hardwood floors in two locations, Jeff agreed to have a flooring contractor fix the first gouge, but only paid half as much for the 2nd gouge (which I discovered only after fixing the 1st one).
Solid State's shoddy work only became apparent to me about a year later, when, in December 2020, I saw water stains on my ceiling, right below the where the joists of my balcony enter the interior of my house. More water damage in January of 2021 - this is when I contacted Solid State and asked them to take a look.
Jeff sent a whole series of people to my house over the course of about 2 years, first to do some work on the exterior of the house, which they thought would fix the water penetration; then to replace my balcony's sliding door, at a cost to me of over $7,000. Jeff himself told me this would be the best course of action to fix the water penetration. It didn't work. More work was done on the exterior, replacing some flashing - this didn't help. Eventually, Jeff sent someone to cut open my interior wall and ceiling, to better understand the leak. This was incredibly disruptive, but whatever, I figured it was worth it to fix the problem. With the wall open, I took several videos of water penetrating the exterior of the house at the balcony joists, which I shared with Jeff. His crew eventually pulled up my balcony decking and redid some more flashing, thinking the problem was fixed. To be fair to them, they used a hose to test for water penetration, and none was evident from inside the house when I was looking through the open wall. So everyone thought it was fixed.
The crew came back to close up my wall and ceiling. These guys can't do drywall to save their lives, it looked absolutely awful. I was redoing their crappy patch job when I noticed that in the heavy wind and rain of December 2022, I was still getting water penetration!
Jeff sent his guy over to my house again, who said he'd probably open up my window trim and take a look. He went silent for a while, but I was contacted by that person again in late Feb 2023, asking if I still had water leaking into the house.
I gave up working with these guys. They're utterly incompetent and Jeff is terrible to work with. There was more than one frustrating discussion with him and his office about getting people over to my house. Jeff has claimed at various times that this leak has nothing to do with their work. So, what, it's just coincidence that SSC did all this work on my balcony, siding, and door, and I get water penetration in heavy rain?!? When there was no water penetration at all for the prior 3 years that I owned this house? If this has nothing to do with their crappy work, why was he sending crews to my house to do these crappy "repairs"?
I have contracted with a local, reputable builder, at a cost of $10,000, to inspect everything and redo what needs to be redone. Which is more than just the siding and balcony - Solid State also screwed up when reinstalling my gutters (they didn't flash properly, I have water leaking down the fascia in 2 spots). When Solid State installed that new sliding door, they used the wrong color exterior caulk, not to mention the wrong color exterior paint for touch ups. But that's nothing compared to the water damage.
Jeff Brooks and Solid State Construction are a nightmare. They damaged my home and cost me over $17,000 in expense due to their general incompetence. Stay away.
We love how our home looks! The siding, trim, and gutters are beautiful. We are looking forward to years of looking good with the James Hardy siding.
This was a big financial investment for me to make, and I was unsure which material I was going to use - cedar or Hardie plank. Heidi, my sales rep, went over the benefits of both, and I ended up choosing Hardie. Nick, my foreman, and LIsa, my representative, were great keeping me informed of what was happening on my project. The crew assigned to my job were truly amazing. My house is very old and very quirky, and they adjusted their work to meet my needs. The finished project looks even better than I had hoped for. I recommend Solid State Construction very very highly and will call them when I'm ready to redo my windows and deck. They are terrific!
In a day where it is so important to find the right contractor, Solid State hands down put my mind at ease!
They were even more than we expected.
Solid Professional throughout every step of the process. Every person that we dealt with were great. Great team and company. We have already recommended them to other.
Super professional from start to finish. High quality work and the best communication I've ever had with a company of this type. Highly recommended!
The job took longer than anticipated due to multiple delays of materials. The project manager rarely communicated these delays. It is nearly impossible to communicate with the crew as they don't speak English and they can't make any decisions. This means you have to get hold of the project manager, have him communicate to the subcontractors foreman, and then have the foreman communicate to the crew. Often this doesn't happen or is miscommunicated in the process. For instance we asked nearly 6 times to not walk on plants, to not put ladders on plants, to not drive on plants and this was never ever respected. We also showed the issues with foam in installing windows. This 1as never corrected. The crew marred uo numerous finished parts of the drywall inside. The panels were never actually cleaned. We also asked for numerous things to be fixed, cleaned, or repaired and these rarely happened. The crew they sent was not interested in doing anything and just walked around the house. The things they did were actually worse than doing nothing at all.
The crew of John Joao and Zachariah did an outstanding job installing the siding on our home. They worked steadily whenever it wasn't raining, with no gaps or delays. I've done a lot of home repair and home improvement projects, and have never experienced the level of workmanship and quality that we got on this job.
It went well from start to finish and I was very impressed with the crew.
Solids State was very easy to work with. They were good about communicating timelines and working with us. When issues arose, they helped find a solution without much of a headache. Overall, it was a very positive experience working with them.
I was very impressed construction crew and project manager, especially when there were unexpected problems. Solid State worked in my absence to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. Joe Serpa was very responsive and clearly worked well with the construction crew manager, Saulo. The team was pleasant and very hard working. I'm pleased with the work and receive many compliments from neighbors and friends about how good the house looks. Also, my Facebook friends have followed the whole project with interest.
Great job!
The salesman was very upfront with us as we selected different parts of our project. Weighing the investment versus our plans for the future and helping us understand where extra money would be well spent. He was able to run several scenarios and price out multiple options that included items we didn't even think of that were common in our neighborhood. Once signed (a very straightforward process), we communicated over email and text message (our preference) for when the project would start, including a flexible start time around my work schedule. The project manager was always available to meet and discuss our questions about the project and explain options behind dealing with issues they came across. The siding and windows part of our project was exceptional. In general, they installed everything perfectly, including some tricky spots on our house. They managed to fix some areas our house as they discovered damage for very little additional cost and even provided suggestions on some fixes we should make while they weren't around. Every evening, they cleaned up after themselves, picking up nails and debris around the areas they worked. Our biggest complaint about the project was the electrician and the gutter company. The electrician sent to our house was an inexperienced, less than friendly guy who randomly showed up one day. After a second trip, he completed the project and we were satisfied. The gutter company showed up without any notice, which left me unhappy. Luckily, work was flexible and I could be there to discuss how the previous gutters were insufficient and required reworking. Once I explained the situation, the gutter company adapted and installed everything flawlessly (after a few heavy rainstorms to test them). After 4 weeks of work, we were very pleased with the project and the professionalism of Solid State Construction.
Solid State was responsive, professional, and completed the project in a timely manner. Their pricing was competitive, their workmanship seems great, they paid attention to details, they were helpful and thorough in answering all of my questions, and they were responsive when minor issues came up that needed addressing. The house looks beautiful and I would confidently recommend them to a friend looking to complete a siding job.
They were phenomenal. I cannot say enough good about them. The sales person was always punctual. Jeff, the owner, communicated with me effectively and kept me updated on the project. Everything was done in a timely manner.
Solid State Construction are fantastic. They did amazing work.
I would recommend Solid Sate, but with my recommendation I would encourage my friend to closely follow up. To solid states credit, eventually everything that was deficient was rectified.
Everyone from the sales rep to the construction crew to the project manager was very helpful, courteous and professional. The quality of work and attention to detail was excellent. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to someone and would use their services in the future.
Excellent workmanship and project managers were easy to reach. They did what they said they we're going to do and the end product, a new farmer's porch and new siding, we are very pleased with.
We are very happy with our siding, trim, and door installation by Solid State construction. My husband and I are both very detail oriented but Solid State met all all our expectations. The crew was extremely polite and responsive to all of our requests. Even when a slight adjustment was needed after the project completion, they were quick to follow up and resolve the issue. Everyone we dealt with at Solid State Construction was friendly and professional. I would definitely recommend Solid State Construction.
