Faster time frame from initiation to completion.
Without expecting a dollar by dollar breakdown, I would have liked a better understanding of how the choices we made were reflected in the overall cost. For example, we were told simply that Corian was "much more" expensive than a quartz countertop. When we checked an independent online source, they appeared to be comparably priced. Similar lack of more precise information on cost for materials for which we couldn't readily get independent cost estimates because Neil Kelly seemed to prefer a particular supplier. On the otherhand, it was helpful to have Neil Kelly narrow the choice of suppliers.
I'm on the Neil Kelly Board of Directors. I retired from Neil Kelly 5 years ago after 45 years. I know the integrity and quality of the people and the work. I know the follow-through and know the high value of Neil Kelly's warranty. I would not use anyone else. I trust Neil Kelly to tell me the truth and give me options if available. Neil Kelly has told me not to do a solar project because it won't be a good investment for me. They honor my budget for projects and work within what I have to spend.
We have 2 families interested in Neil-Kelly Solar. If they have more questions, we will refer them to you.
Great Team, very knowledgeable and professional
Neil Kelly-Eugene has accomplished 3 big projects for me on 2 houses and were incredibly good at design, communication, and excellent results on all 3 projects. All personnel were delightful to deal with personally.
Although not using the template and stars, I would like to offer a hopefully constructive suggestion.
I would consider adding two specialized consultants, one an expert in lighting and the second an expert in building and the environmental sciences. Prospective clients might welcome well-informed direction about which building materials and practices are most healthy. Other clients may be uncertain of the effect of various colors to be installed in their unique context and appreciate the guidance of a lighting designer.
I think that a resource like this might complement the work of the talented staff while adding depth to NK's already considerable repertoire of skills.
efficient, made good use of time. and did great job
The solution was great and the service throughout was realistic and helpful.
We have had Larry Romick do our remodeling several times over the years. He is always as close to on-time and on-budget as is possible. When it is not possible, he gives clear reasons for increased cost or delay and estimated corrected time and/or cost. He has pointed out several times how we can save money. We have and will continue to recommend him and Neil Kelly. This sounds like a paid ad but it isn't. We just like working with this company.
I believe I filled out a survey for you about a week or more ago; please recheck; did you not receivd it?
There were several issues:
1) The term ‘handyman’ services a bit of a bait and switch, as once we got past the ‘planning’ stage, it seemed to become an official Neil Kelly project, where we had Aaron Land, Ashley Jackson, and a rotating crew of workers all involved. There was no handyman involved as advertised or marketed. We didn’t need a weekly ‘progress report’.
2) There were a lot of inefficiencies, for example, the person who does measurements should be the person doing the work. There were numerous times where Aaron came over to take measurements and pictures, but then the carpenter or whoever would not really know what he was thinking and would have to redo measurements. This led to some challenges with the door installations in particular. It also meant using up more of my time waiting at the house, etc.
3) I think we went through 3 ‘carpenters’ during our project, which meant no consistency, as well as more of a chance for something to go wrong or a miscommunication. I’m not sure if that’s normal for a Neil Kelly job, but it seemed like a lot of turnover to me.
4) Aaron was particularly bad at communicating. There were several instances where his email "didn’t work" or where he sent apologies for being delayed or not showing up. For example, he didn’t show to the final walk through, even though Ashley did (though she didn’t do the walk through as she was never really involved other than putting out the key box and retrieving it). I’ve outlined the times below where Aaron’s communication was not optimal.
Jan 30, emails didn’t ‘go’ out
Feb 7, again apology for delay in email
Feb 17, said he sent contract but never got it;
Feb 19, still no contract, apologized for delay
Apr 17, another email apparently lost to ‘ghost world’ he says
Apr 28, didn’t show to final walk through, no text or email, Ashley told me
In the end, we won’t recommend Neil Kelly to any of our friends and won’t be using your services again. The work done is fine, but it was poorly managed and extreme overkill for the project we needed. Given how much we paid, we expected better management and a smoother process. There seems to be a premium put on email/phone surveys at the end of the project, but we needed less of that and more actual work/consistency.
Yes, likely to recommend, with the understanding that NK will cost a bit more, may run slightly behind/make a few random mistakes but will do everything to a complete and do a wonderful job overall.
Communication with Neil Kelly was an issue throughout our project. Fortunately, that was the only real snag we hit. Their subcontractors were fantastic and did a great job. However, compared to other options in town, their pricing wasn't competitive and we would have saved money working an independent contractor instead.
First, communication with me was superb, and the designers, managers an workers were always checking to see if I was satisfied with the work.
Everyone involved in the project was helpful and kind, and very good at providing information and answering questions.
No high-pressure sales tactics, and consultant Jo Blinman built a customized system that fit my needs.
We are very happy that we chose Neil Kelly for our bathrooms remodel. They were very professional - organized, clear communicators, helpful with ideas, and treated us and our home with the utmost respect. I would highly recommend their services!
Very professional "handyman" named Bob who listened to the needs and got right to work fixing a variety of projects
The quality and workmanship was impeccable! And the overall experience was actually fun!
Has nothing to do with you. We're very satisfied with the job and the work, and we'd tell anyone who asks. Recommendations are not my thing.
The design process with Jonne Vandehey was done very professionally and helped us determine what we wanted in the selection of materials. The scope of work and contract were very clearly defined and the work was executed consistent with the defined scope.
Neil Kelly walked us through the entire process at our first meeting. They were very detailed on what the process would entail, including the initial steps to get the project started.
We’ve used Neil Kelly for many projects over many years and have always been extremely pleased with their services and workmanship.
Having used Neil Kelley for many projects over the years, they are the first and only people we call because their work is impeccable and completed as described in their contract.
Everyone that I worked with were professional, friendly, and great!
Yes. Without hesitation or reservation.
I felt that the company was an entity that we could trust to do a very exacting job with the best materials available. I could tell that the team installing the components had the necessary experience to complete the job correctly and on time.
I would like to point out that Mike, our project manager, is a credit to Neil Kelly and was a pleasure to work with. I would invite him into my home anytime. Kudos to you Mike.
Thanks to everyone involved with our solar project.
The quality of the work they did was top of the line. It was great.
timing to schedule the work; team had difficulty committing to dead lines; better care when working in the attic
Need improved communication between team members
All around a highly satisfying experience. You never have to worry when you use Neil Kelly Company.
We felt that we finally found someone we could trust.
We recommended NK to friends after the first project, and will certainly continue to do so.
See comments at the end of the survey. This question and the comments at the end are the only ones I completed on this survey.
Neil Kelly consistently delivers a high quality finished product. Their collaborative approach throughout the project is greatly appreciated.
I have a kitchen and a master suite redesigned by NK, most recently I used their handyman option. I trust them to do the job right the first time and, if they have a hiccup, they fix it.
Neil Kelly is Oregon’s premier remodeler. Others may be good, some may be cheaper, but if you are hoping for a construction experience that leaves you with no regrets, Neil Kelly is truly in a class by itself. When I recommend Neil Kelly to a friend, I know they will experience the highest level of design expertise, quality workmanship, and professional communication. At the end of the day, no one is as good as Neil Kelly at reducing the unavoidable anxiety of a major remodel.
Our experience with Neil Kelly during a major kitchen renovation confirms them to be a highly professional group. The rigorous planning process and meticulous attention to detail resulted in a finished project that met and exceeded even our high expectations. Marty & Carol E, Waterfront Pearl Condominiums
Very happy with our experience. Neil Kelly took our ideas and made them a reality. They took the stress out of renovation and made the process easy.
The communication was OK, the implementation was plagued by too many mistakes (that were mostly caught by the homeowners, not the project manager) and redos. The end result as not as good as we had hoped.
Communication - The flow of communication was constant and professional. This was among the better elements of the project.
I already have recommended them to anyone who’ll listen!
Sure, there were hiccoughs in the process. But it all worked out well.
We had a 12 year old undersized solar array that we were unable to add to and had developed a leak in the roof under it. Niel Kelly was able to remove the old array, fix the roof, and put in a new larger and more efficient solar system in about three days. They were also able to decommission the old array in such a way we could put the old panels in storage so they could be used again by other family members. Their designers and installers were great to work with in that they were quite responsive to all our questions and ideas. All in all, quite happy with the end result. By the way, the final product generated as much in 10 days as our old system did in an entire month for the same month last year.
Neil Kelly has quality work and is dependable.
The carpenters made good recommendations and did a good job.
They did an excellent job from the design stage up until the finished remodeling. The workmanship was just perfect, and I appreciate working with the crew they sent over.
Aaron was very perfessi
They have a good warranty and are an established company in the community that doesn't seem to be going anywhere tomorrow. However, the communications between their staff and with us are lacking or difficult. Today, for example, it has taken multiple attempts to schedule a close-out meeting with their staff.
Today, an hour and a half before that meeting, they called to say they wouldn't be able to make it, and it would have to be rescheduled. There have been a lot of things like that. It has just been hard to get timely and accurate communication from them and between them.
Neil Kelly Construction is very professional, efficient, and has very skilled craftsmen working for them.
