Dovetail is clearly focused on quality work. When there was a misunderstanding regarding project scope change and the resulting cost implications, Jonathan immediately discussed and resolved the matter with us in an honest and professional manner and we are enjoying a beautiful and quality bathroom!
Establish a clear understanding of managing scope and change orders early in the project.
We saw their quality work at a friend's house and asked who the contractors were.
My favorite part is the functionality.
I would like to have had a better understanding of the lighting system.
Weve known Johns Shoal for years.
I feel that from the beginning, our estimate was way off. I feel that the estimate was under cutted to obtain the contract. Once work began, each invoice was between $5000-$10000 beyond expected (for I think a total of 3 times). The extra cost was listed as extras, but a good portion of these "extras" should be have been included in the original estimate. For example, it was quoted the price to remove certain closets (and I assumed to finishing the project was included, but I was wrong) , but for the invoice, replacing molding was an extra and all the finishing was extra. This is just one example. Yes, things were found that were unexpected, but these weren't the main reasons the invoices were so much higher. Way off on finish date, buy 2 months.
With a 70 year old home, Dovetail did an amazing job on refurbishing and renovating just about every aspect of it inside and out.
There was no written information before we started some projects.
My favorite part is difficult to choose because Jonathan and his group started with the inside of the house. It's an old stucco cinder block home that was transformed from blue to a beautiful plaster type yellow and replaced 34 windows that were cemented into the frame which was difficult. The transformation was beautiful.
I would add Landscaping as that change.
I heard about Dovetail Group from Houzz.
They did a wonderful job and I would recommend them to anybody.
They met my highest expectations in all aspects of design, workmanship, and scheduling. As an engineer and architect myself, I liked all of their architectural ideas and I agreed to have them do the project in the manner that they felt best.
They didn't fall short. It was difficult and we knew to have a kitchen remodeled, meant dust and dirt and losing the use of the kitchen. That type of project is difficult by definition and they did their best to keep the house clean and allow us to use the kitchen sparingly during the construction.
I was most satisfied with the design ideas they brought to the table.
I heard about Dovetail Group from a third party.
We were most satisfied with their attention to detail, that includes professionalism and communication. They listen. We've worked with contractors before and even though we felt like we were being clear, they fail to follow through. With Dovetail, however anytime we had questions there would be a conversation. They don't skip out on meeting the quality standard of the homeowner. Anytime I would inspect with something I didn't understand why something was being done a particular way, I felt comfortable asking for an explanation. They are never impatient or unkind. It's like having a friend do your work but better because they are a professional contractor. Their attention to detail is impeccable. I love that about them and why they keep using them for our home projects. When it's your home, your baby and a large investment, the answer is Dovetail.
At any change, they would approach us to reassess. They are awesome at working with you at every corner and aspect of the job. They are very friendly. We've worked with other contractors that make their own decisions and you're left with surprises at the end. Dovetail is amazing.

We were researching on Google. We were looking for local folks, with nice reputations and who had a particular eye and mindset for the master plan. We worked with others that do the job and leave. We interviewed many and John took our breath away. John is professional, friendly and enjoyable to be around. We have an old house that's complicated. After expressing our thoughts to each other on who to go with, my husband and I knew it was John after meeting with him. John is kind, courteous and heard everything from all corners. John was not a pushy, know-it-all contractor. He brought the technical knowledge, an educational process and explained all details for you to buy into his idea. He allowed us to custom-tailor our project. He was clear, flexible and really great at understanding all the things you would want for your house. When it's your baby and a large investment, the answer is Dovetail.
We just love them. We hire them for every project for our home, big or small.
They did quality work in a timely manner.
The subcontractors I would give a three.
I was most satisfied with the fact that they found issues that popped up and solved them along the way.
I heard about Dovetail on Home Advisors.
Their work has stood up to time.
It was really nice to see my kitchen finally come together.
A friend told me about them.
They fell short with the scheduling with the subcontractors.
I was most satisfied with their professionalism and their knowledge.
I heard about them through Home Adviser, online.
Dovetail demonstrated the ability and willingness to take on problems which were not ordinary and which required some imagination.
Dovetail Group did a superlative job in everything that they did. It was a pleasure to have the men around the house. They couldn't have been more pleasant. The room they did was terrific and they did it unbelievably quickly.
They were terrific.
I am most satisfied with the appearance of the room. Everything about it was just terrific.
I went to Home Adviser.
GuildQuality partners with it's member companies to survey their customers and collect detailed feedback on their behalf. By administrating surveys as an unbiased third party we ensure that customers have the oppurtunity to express their true feelings about a project and that members get the most accurate and detailed feedback possible.
When a survey contains the "Review" question, that customer's answer will show up on the member's profile page as a public review. Members have the option to turn off reviews but cannot hide individual reviews. It's all or nothing. This means that any reviews you see on a GuildQuality profile page are real comments left by the customer and verified by GuildQuality.
Each item listed under "Customer satisfaction" represents a specific question asked by GuildQuality to customers of Dovetail Group LLC as part of our survey process. The bar graph and percentage next to the question stand for the percentage of respondents that were "Satisfied" about that particular question.
A customer is considered satisfied about about a question if they answered with 4 or more stars out of 5. For example if the "Communication" question is at 95% satisfaction that means that 95% of survey respondents answered that question with 4 or more stars out of 5 possible stars.More about surveys
