We contracted with Apex to expand an existing residential solar system. We initially wanted to add just three panels to our 15-panel array. Despite the small add-on, turns out we had to have a new inverter and some other equipment installed too. We received financing through NYSERDA. The paperwork and contracting process was a bit bumpy, but Apex did make the contract changes we asked for. After considering all the paperwork, and the output potential of the new panels, we decided to have six new panels installed, instead of just three. After all the paperwork was in place, an Apex employee carefully inspected the installation site, we received an engineering diagram before the installation, and an Apex employee did a second site inspection. Imagine our shock, when on the day the Apex crew arrived to do the work, the installers discovered that the design was wrong and that only four panels would fit, not six. Apex assured us they'd correct the problem, switch out the panels, and install six new ones of the correct size. We waited a few weeks. When the Apex crew returned, they told us they were just swapping out the four panels they'd already installed and that six panels would not fit! The crew left without showing us how to use the SolarEdge monitoring app. Later, we had to re-sign our financing paperwork and our contract with Apex to reflect the cost of the four panel option, as opposed to the six panel option we'd contracted for. Setting up the SolarEdge monitoring app was only moderately annoying and a bit of help from the experts at Apex would have helped. Apex handled the local permitting and final electrical code inspections, which was helpful. The Apex people were all very nice, but they should consider improving their own internal job coordination and quality control. The work they did looks professional and, so far, no roof leaks! Of course, four panels will be just fine but the design mess up was a bit shocking.

Due to extremely poor communication through-out this process, especially now that we have had our system installed for the better part of 7 weeks but still awaiting a meter to be installed to go live. We have experienced continued problems resulting from lack of organization and professionalism from the Apex team we have dealt with and we are very unsatisfied that we chose Apex Solar as our installer

They were timely and they cleaned up well. They were polite and friendly. Overall, it was a good experience. They knew what they were doing and they were easy to work with.

I signed the contract with Apex in March of 2020 counting on the summer for producing solar energy. As of Oct 20 2020, my solar system is still not functional. Cancellation of scheduled appointments often occurred less than 24 hours before the scheduled date. I had to take many additional days off work to accommodate this schedule. Even though they said they'd provide a discount for all the inconvenience, that never happened.
On the positive side, they are polite and pleasant to talk to.

They did a good job as long as there were no “bumps in the road “. Still don’t have official approval from the county and it’s been 18 months.

I would not recommend at this time. They put galvanized roofing nails in our copper. It was our mason who discovered it and took pictures. I sent the pictures to Apex. They have promised to come back, redo copper flashing, cover copper cap with new copper cap and check copper valleys for galvanized nails and replace with copper nails.
