Ended up being ahead of schedule!
Mat and Sam were exceptional
Skilled carpentry, good suggestions, great team of workers, planned around us - so it was less disruptive. We love the new kitchen!
The entire team is super!
Their process and work product are super.
Everyone at Two Storey Building provided exceptional service.
Communication, professionalism, workmanship.
Good communication throughout process. Promptly responded to emails, calls, texts. Provided weekly updates and cost breakdowns against estimates as work progressed.
Two Storey was good at laying out material choices and helping us find the best balance of cost, durability, function and aesthetic.
Two Storey was on top schedule and kept us informed when things were happening. Provided explanations to our many construction questions. Sub contractors were all professional, courteous and answered questions.
Good management of subcontractors, started on time and generally finished when expected with few minor delays here and there. Our project was estimated at about 6 months but took about 10+ months. Larger delays were primarily due tasks managed by homeowner (writing this review), including geothermal/hvac and buried electrical installation with different contractors. Two Storey supported those activities where necessary (ended up tackling the buried electrical) as well as doing a basement reno outside of original 6 month scope...a ‘while you’re in there’ add-on requested by homeowner. Next time I’d have Two Storey manage all of it.
We really wanted to do it right the first time and have a comfortable, durable, energy efficient home. We selected Two Storey based on positive reviews, similar renovations and green building expertise- and they delivered. They did a good job of staying on top of costs and budget, although we added on quite a bit of extras (~20%). Building and renovating in the Boston area is not cheap, any way you slice it. Forget HGTV. We intend to enjoy the house for many years, and therefore tried to balance high quality construction choices (where sensible) with some consideration for near term house market values. Overall we feel like we got good value for the money, and the house is awesome.
Doug, Bill and Mat were great. Dave Welch at Norfolk Kitchen has the patience of a saint and provided great direction on kitchen design. Steve Baczek, architect provided good feedback on energy efficiency choices for a tighter budget.
Would recommend and use again.
Extremely happy with our remodeled sunroom
Quality of work, expertise of employees and subcontractors, friendliness of personnel, working flexibly with us to achieve our goals and caring that our project turned out as we wanted it to.
Overall an excellent choice for major renovation.
Two Storey worked with me to develop a plan for an addition and a major kitchen renovation, kept all the pieces moving forward at the right times so there were no lags between one sub finishing and the next beginning, and the staff were all very good to work with.
My kitchen went from small and serviceable to giant and awesome. My wife got her dream of an island, expecting to be maybe 2 feet by 4 feet to something like 3 feet by 11 feet. The fact that I still have space to fill in my cabinets is a wonderful feeling.
We were very pleased with the work Two Storey Building did on our house. They listened to our ideas and made them work out beautifully. Communication was excellent, workers were always professional and thoughtful
We were very comfortable that Doug was familiar with the permitting and variance processes. We did not have to navigate them alone.
Two Storey Building just completed a whole house renovation and an addition of a new Master Suite all while we lived in the house. The project was completed within the budgets set and on the timelines we discussed. Their employees and sub contractors were all great to work with. The job site was cleaned up every night and they made a real effort to keep the areas we were still occupying as clean as possible. The quality of the work was fantastic, they delivered everything we asked for and as we expected!
I was most satisfied with their responsiveness and professionalism. They always said that anything I wanted to be done was no problem, they will take care of it and if they couldn't they explained why not. They were coopertive in reaching out to me and getting me responses.
We've worked with Two Storey Building on three major projects (a new home, a basement finishing, and a bathroom renovation project) ... and we'd hire them again in a heartbeat.
They came with strong neighborhood recommendation, and met all our expectations. We would gladly use them for additional project(s) as they come up. We are extremely happy with our new kitchen and shower.
They were great and I would definitely use them again.
Two Storey Building is an above average company that is easy to work with and delivers a high quality result. No project is stress free, especially when you are living at the job site during an addition. But TSB communicates well and resolves issues together with the customer, so it's an above average experience.
I think that the end product speaks for itself. I'm sure that we were challenging customers with high expectations, but TSB aimed to make up happy, and that went a long way.
I found them via their website, which was well done -- explaining their company, their values, and sufficient gallery examples to make an impression.
Thank you, Doug, Mat and Chris. We are really enjoying our new garage, music room and patio areas.
Since I was involved from start to finish, you should have included my name - Cindy Brooks - in the above request.
Two Storey Building was fantastic. They took a drab, crumbly basement and turned it into a gorgeous, bright, sparkling, airy space that we now use every day. The ceiling, the walls, the floors, rebuilding the stairs, putting in a bathroom - there was a lot of work here and every bit of it looks top-notch now. When I asked questions, both Doug (one of the owners) and Jerry (the foreman on our job) responded promptly and clearly. I felt I always knew what was happening and had a clear view of the schedule. They are not the least expensive, but the quality of work is so great that I feel it was worth every last cent.
It was very easy working with Two Storey and the results were great! We definitely would recommend them.
They exceeded our expectations at every turn, even when there were issues with the project, they were responsive and worked hard to remedy the problems.
Two Storey Building added a new Timberteck deck with LED lights on the stairs to our pool with stairs down to both sides of the yard. In addition they completely gutted and redid our sunroom with new ceiling, walls, insulation and flooring, removing and replacing where the former door was with a window and adding a new sliding to where 3 sunroom windows were. Included was removal of some insulation in the area beneath the sunroom and adding new all insulation and ceiling the ceiling in the area below. Doug was always in touch, worked with subcontractors on portions of the work and Jerry did very professional work. We did not like the building inspector ADA required wood railings so they were replaced with TimberTeck for no maintenance and the required young child gates at the bottom we were able to get slits added that fit in with the code requirements which enable seeing the stair LED's from a distance in the yard. Great work. Thanks again. We will be in touch for the next project.
The managers and staff were very friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, and accommodating. The co-managers, Doug and Bill, met our expectations for meetings and allowing us to be fully involved in the process. The use of meeting notes, action items, and detailed schedules (MS Project) was very effective to keeping the overall effort on schedule. They work with high-quality subcontractors that we were able to interact with to ensure our requests were met. We had an open book pricing arrangement that was helpful to allow us to fully weigh decisions. In the end, they delivered a high quality product, on-time, and we are very satisfied.
I was satisfied with the overall quality. They did an outstanding job.
I've known Doug for years. I had also heard good reviews about Two Storey from other people in town, and had no qualms with hiring them.
We had obtained quotes from 4 other contractors. Doug was the most receptive, responsible and patient contractor with a price that made sense. We liked him and gave us a good vibe. Before we started the project we we amazed and how confident he was in giving us a timetable (microsoft project) with estimated dates from completion on different parts of the project. He followed them to the letter. Many of our friend were pessimistic and told us that no contractor will folow dates that it may take more than a year to complete. Doug, Bill and his crew completed the job in 4 1/2 months. We could not believe even with a 1 week delay from the city inspection!! The finishes are great and the quality of materials top notch. Working with Doug we came to realize that our architectural/engineering firm had made a mistake on the type of beams to use. Doug used his engineer and corrected the problem at no extra charge. This kind of projects are very detailed ones. I would recommend you estimate an extra 10% from the quote since from the allowances my wife and I changed many things which made us expend and extra 40K but not Dougs fault.Doug and Bill (his brother) are very receptive and always listening and never dismissed. He also set up multiple meetings to update us in the progression of the project and make sure we understood what the next step was and when we needed to decide on specific things like light fixtures, wall paint, floor finishes. When the work was done his crew came different times at no charge for minor adjustments.A few pieces of advice1. Have a architectural plan approved by your city and fire department 2. Make your addition as big as you are allowed and affordability3. You can not live in the house while it is happening so you need to pay for rent, but the bank will not charge you mortgage during the construction4. Find a reliable bank, Doug got very annoyed when the bank intentionally delayed payment due to laziness form their end.5. Have extra cash that you are willing to spend for the change orders6. I would recommend Doug a million times, he is a good and fair contractor.
Not only are the principals at Two Storey Building professional to deal with, all their staff and subcontractors were, too. At every site visit we were greeted cordially, all questions were answered, the site was kept clean and free of debris.
The schedule was adhered to literally to the date - very impressive.
Exceeded expectations with regards to quality of work and materials.
Very impressive. Neighbors who lived nearby through the construction commented on the professionalism of the crew - both with respect to cleanliness and with respect to noise.
- Timeliness- Quality of work- Ability to maximize my budget- Ability to think of details we may not have known about.- Willingness to be flexible, especially in light of bank delays - thank you.
Thank you, Doug, Bill, and team for our beautiful home. We love it and hope to enjoy it for many years to come.
We interviewed several contractors and chose Two Storey Building for our basement project because we were impressed with their process and organization, and felt we would get a high quality product. Doug believes in taking the time upfront to develop and figure out the design, well before any work begins. Given our project oriented thinking process, this worked well with us, for we knew exactly what we were getting before any wall was hung or nail was hammered. The final costs were based on our specifications and were in line with the 1st pass of the project estimate. When issues came up, we were able to discuss our options and figure out the optimal solution. We must say that Doug and Bill really wanted us to be happy and were willing to do the right thing, which was not always the easiest. When we tell people we “finished our basement”, the words do not accurately describe the project. We actually put an addition on to our home and provided a high-end extension to our wonderful living space. Doug and Bill took our ideas along with their expertise and made our dream a reality

We contacted Two Storey Building on August 17th, seeking full contractor services for renovations to a 6500-sqft home including 4000 sqft of new hardwood flooring, full kitchen renovations, detailed master bath tiling, various wall additions and relocations with associated electrical and plumbing, full interior and exterior painting, and extensive exterior brick masonry and architectural details. We wanted to begin work three weeks later and be finished by the holidays. Two Storey responded at once, discussed the sub-tasks and material options with us by email over the next few days, arranged a meeting at the property a week later with all required subcontractors present, prepared a cost estimate within another week which we approved, and started demo work the morning after we closed on the house. For the next three months they worked closely with us on every aspect of the ongoing work--materials selection, design options, construction details, and scheduling. Two Storey provided first-rate craftsmanship, direct access to both the owner and foreman, excellent coordination of construction sub-tasks, rapid response to our questions, execution of change orders at reasonable pricing and with minimal impact to schedule, excellent raw material and construction waste management, adaptability of activities around our availability for review or consultation, and open presentation of all costs. (They even assisted with power to the house during hurricane Sandy). The final project tasks were re-sequenced to accommodate our move-in in early December and wrapped up a week later, allowing us to be fully settled in by Christmas. Including our changes, we finished within 10% of the initial cost estimate. All in all we were quite pleased with the experience and the outcome, and with no hesitation would recommend Two Storey Building to others considering home construction or renovations.
