I think if a buyer wants a more "upscale home," they should consider a different builder. Kent does a great job for a certain price point, but we spent a lot of money on upgrades because Kent doesn't offer many options, and we are doing it after market. For example, there were very limited choices for quartz countertops. There was no option to add wood slats in a ceiling, whereas my friend building with Liberty had that option. There was one option for a patio so we are doing that later. We wanted a specific Anderson window, and that was a challenge. We had the wrong windows installed and had to change them out, which cost us $2,500.00, even though we were very clear about what window we wanted. That was a 6-week wait to get the new windows installed.

We have been very communicative throughout the whole process as to what was going wrong. We can always forward emails and previous discussions we had if necessary. But essentially, this process required so much of our involvement. The main thing that helped us was having family that works in the industry to guide us with their expertise. We worry about those without any experience, as this process required a lot of our participation to make sure the house was built and built correctly.

Employees & Trade Contractors - For the most part, everyone is professional and nice. But, as expected, some contractors are incredibly messy and leave behind food, nails, materials, and more that we are constantly cleaning up. This is expected on job sites but it’s still concerning bc we don’t want injury to people or property. Also we had an incident where someone was hanging out in my neighbors yard and they don’t need their kids to be worried about random strangers on their property. Dade immediately handled the situation and he also helps pick up after the contractors.
