I probably would have reservations about recommending Alan Smith. They are very expensive.
Everyone was very professional and knowledgeable
We have never worked with more professional than we have with Alan Smith Pools. They did an excellent job, were very considerate people, and very cost-effective.
The supervisor and designer went out of their way, and we are very happy with it.
Bad communication.
They were extremely professional and timely.
Communication of scheduling was fantastic
Our salesman was very helpful and patient with what we wanted. The quality of the work met our expectations (I work as a QE in Defense). They do not sub-contract out so they have control of all the work done and the timing of the project. And there was little interference in our lives at the house while the work was going on. We look forward to having more work done (pavers) once we save up the money!
If you need a pool, call Allen!
We received excellent service from Alan Smith from start to finish. The sales team helped us understand our option and made the contract process easy. Our project manager, Ron, was the best we could have asked for - he was with us every step of the way and went out of his way to make sure everything ran smoothly. There was excellent communication and all the people who came to work were professional and courteous. We appreciate everything Alan Smith did for us.
Recognized Excellence - Ron Paap - our project manager. Was knowledgeable and kind and always took the extra step to ensure everything was done the right way. Patrick who came to install the App and wireless components - he was very thorough and came back when we had a problem and fixed it quickly.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Every area: communication, quality of work, commitment, value.
Additional Comments - We are glad we worked with Alan Smith for this project.
Clean - To my knowledge, they left the job site clean.
Communication - They absolutely communicated with me effectively.
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize Robert Monroe for his exceptional service.
Areas Of Satisfaction - They met our expectations in all areas.
Recognized Excellence - Yes, Robert Monroe our project manager. He was excellent and helped us throughout the process.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Plumbing, electrical and plaster was excellent. Crews were clean, polite and always cleaned up.
Additional Comments - We were very pleased in the end with Alan Smith Pools and would recommend them to others. We had a few bumps along the way, but everything was fixed to our satisfaction.
Highly recommend, price was reasonable and work was done professionally.
Recognized Excellence - Travis was great , he let us know what he was going to do and explained everything. He even called when I wasn’t home.
Additional Comments - Would highly recommend
Recognized Excellence - I would like to recognize everyone that I dealt with for their exceptional service. Harriet, CJ, and all the other employees all did a very good job, communicated well, and explained everything well.
Additional Comments - I chose Alan Smith Pools because they are reliable, not because of their price.
Communication - Ron the project manager, is professional and genuinely a great human being.
Recognized Excellence - Ron and the entire crew.
Recognized Excellence - Our project manager Ron was very helpful. He was knowledgeable about the process and communicated well. Once he took over the project things went smoothly and he kept us on time.
Everyone we worked with on this project was incredibly nice and kind, first and foremost. So nothing personal. Extra note here that Patrick was very responsive and helpful, as was Geoff Guzynski. But once construction began, from start to finish the communication with the company as a whole was pretty terrible. We had no idea what was going on half the time. The crew would leave, they would be gone for a week or two weeks while the backyard was just a pile of dirt. And we would have no idea what was happening, what the next step was, or when anyone was going to come back. Sometimes I would reply to the project emails as directed, and would not get a response. Sometimes we would get an email before the crew would show up, and sometimes not. So the emails telling us a crew was going to arrive became irrelevant. At one point, we were told we would be receiving a change order for "special demolition" of the patio footings. The concrete on the footings was exactly the same as the rest of the deck, and there was no reason it should not have been removed at the same time that the rest of the concrete was removed. We were told that it required "special equipment." Luckily we were home when the guys showed up, and we were able to watch them remove it in 45 minutes using the exact same tools and methods that were used for the rest of the concrete demolition. There was absolutely NO reason we should have been given a $2400 change order for this. We pushed back because this made no sense, and the change order was reduced, but we were still charged about $850 for it, which still makes not a single ounce of sense to us. It was infuriating and really broke trust between us and Alan Smith Pools. I work in construction so I know very well how people get screwed on unnecessary change orders with enormous markup. It was offensive to have that done to us. I can understand a change order if we changed our minds about something halfway through the project, but that was absolutely not the case here. It was known from the start that that concrete would have to be taken down 2 or 3 inches. And not only was it known, my husband brought it up and asked about it MULTIPLE times early in the project because it was a concern he had. The fact that the crew did not adequately sequence or schedule their work (and was NOT any type of a change on our part) should have never cost us anything extra. Additionally, this project took way, way longer than anticipated. We still have a punch list of 6 or 7 items, including our two patio globe lights (one of which was broken by the crew during concrete install, the other of which was removed in order to find a matching replacement). We are still missing footing covers for the patio, a drain and a faucet need some work, etc. We selected quartz instead of regular plaster for a couple reasons, one being longevity, and the other being that we were under the impression that it would look nicer. It unfortunately looks exactly like regular plaster, and it some areas the finish is so uneven, it looks like white paint dripping down inside the spa. Our level of frustration has been so high throughout these past 6 months, it made us wonder why this company was recommended to us by our pool guy. I have very little confidence that the remainder of the punch list items will be completed in a timely manner, if at all. Again, there has not been any text or email communication regarding a timeline.
Areas Of Satisfaction - The timing of completion of the job. It was done very expeditiously.
All of the different trades involved were very professional and communicated with us along the way. When there were complications (which happens when redoing a pool and patio) they brought them to our attention and we discussed options. John, the overall Project Manager, was there when needed to provide direction and to answer questions. Overall, the pool and patio were completed efficiently. The quality of their work was excellent.
Types of work - Replace concrete patio with pavers
Recognized Excellence - John, the Project Manager. The lead on the coping because it was complex and they took their time to figure out an elegant solution. The lead on the pavers (actually all the paver guys).
Areas For Improvement - Keeping track of the invoicing - what we agreed to vs what we were being build. There was miscommunication between Mike, John, and accounting. Mike was nice but not as organized as he needed to be - he was juggling multiple pool projects.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Used 100% in-house staff to do the work. One stop shopping!
Recognized Excellence - Jason Stewart was exceptional. The worker was professional as well.
Great team to work with from the sales end thru construction!
Recognized Excellence - Ron Rapp was excellent!
All highly skilled professionals, from the demo to finish plastering
Alan Smith has a good reputation; however, if I were to recommend ASP I would have to add my experience with them which was below what I expected to be.
They are professional and I like their work.
I give the salesperson a 5-star rating. I give the project manager a 4-star rating.
