Here's an email I sent to my experience manager yesterday after receiving a very strong complain from my neighbor who was negatively impacted by both the roofing & gutter crews:
We're in the process of getting the gutters installed yesterday & today. Unfortunately there was a two week lag between the ending of the roofing job and the start of the gutter job. During this time, about 1/3 of my home had no gutters. Last night during the atmospheric river that rained all night, we still did not have complete gutters on our house.
Aravia is my experience manager for the gutter job. Prior to the start of the job I provided very specific instructions about not using the neighbors property for tools, equipment, etc based on the experience we had with the roofing crew and the complaints my neighbor raised during that job. All was communicated clearly in advance Despite this notice, we had similar issues with the gutter installer that we did with the roofing crew - utilizing the neighbors property for gutter removal without asking permission. This rekindled all of the negative feelings and emotions my neighbor felt with the roofing crew and I took the brunt of her complaint head on. Not a pleasant experience to say the least.
After yesterday's issues, Aravia offered to speak with my neighbor to further apologize and try to smooth over the rough edges. I passed this along to my neighbor and received a long, detailed complaint about her experience with the roofing crew and the gutter crew which she asked me to pass along. I think it's important that you see this as well. She felt disrespected - again - with the gutter installer using her property without prior permission. I agree the roofing crew did an excellent job overall but from the comments from my neighbor, it could have been much better. The impact this experience has had on my neighbor and the resulting impact it's having between my family and my neighbor, will be long lasting. A simple apology won't fix the damage that was done.

The process was clear and efficient from beginning to end. I appreciated the time spent on my quote and the use of visual aids. This was the only company that talked about adding hooks to the roof for future safety restraints. I asked many follow up questions and the person who set up my bid looked into each of them to get me answers. The office communicated clearly the process and got back to me on questions within the job. The work site was left very clean.
They were professional, cleaned up well, and we were really happy with the experience.
Overall I had a poor experience with Valentine roofing. The quality of my roof installation was poor. The flashing looked terrible. The original quote missed a skylight by the estimator, I was misguided on the impact of deck mount vs curved skylights which resulted in needing to make a change after the project started. The quality and communication from the on site crew was just terrible. It resulted in having to take another day off of work and have them fix this issue with clear resentment showed to me by the crew. I will not be recommending anyone to valentine roofing. Also, multiple times I was contacted about needing to pay for the job before it was complete and sent multiple notices about being ‘pat due’ when I arranged financing through valentine and the project was not complete.

the roofing job was fine... but treatment of my plants left a lot to be desired... you resolved the damage done to two of my plants but how you protected my plants in several areas wasn't satisfactory... whatever you used to cover/protect the plants cause the tops of the plants to be burned...

If I were to talk to a friend about Valentine Roofing, I would tell them they do good work and the price is similar to other companies, but that the communication can be lacking. It does only take a few days, so you don't have to deal with the upheaval for long.
