A great experience with Valentine Roofing from beginning to end.

The project manager seemed overworked and I did not receive a lot of pro-active communication. When they were coming, when the dumpster was going to be dropped off, when delivery coming, when the port-a-potty was going to be dropped off. Mail text or phone call, I didn't get anything on these points of communication.

We are so glad we went with a bigger company. Our original roof was in bad shape and we weren't surprised when we ran into some unexpected issues. Valentine was able to address this issues right away--they had the people and resources to respond to unanticipated issues as they occurred. The whole process was easy and the communication was great throughout. We felt well taken care of and would gladly use them again (but we likely won't have to because this roof is going to outlast us!)

Great job done, handled very well and professionally

We had numerous problems during our installation related to poor communication between estimator, project specifics, on-site personnel. Most of these were clearly communication issues from Valentine to their installer. Another issue was the installation crew could not speak English and the owner could not speak Spanish. Onsite communication suffered due to crew being unable to understand Owner. Skylights were installed in the wrong place even after the company representative clarified for installation crew where the skylights were to be installed. Damage to carpet and bedroom through carelessness of crew replacing tarping and sweeping debris into removed skylight opening. There were more issues but I'm tired of spending time on Valentine for a $30,000 job. Temporary skylight water intrusion tarping did not stop leakage into house, had to call Valentine, send pictures for them to come out and re-work the temporary water intrusion solution they put up.

The workmanship appears to be top quality however my inability to communicate with the crew and the foreman of my project was a huge problem for me. Nobody on the crew spoke english so keeping me informed was impossible. I was told at the begining of the project that there would be an interpreter on the crew to help with this process but that never happened.

I told my project manager and my estimater that I wanted to be informed of the state of the plywood on my existing roof before the damaged wood was removed. In very broken english I was informed of some of the damaged plywood and indeed I got up on the roof and looked for myself. At the end of the process however, I was informed that there were sheets on the back of the roof that had been replaced without my knowlege. These were of course charged to me at the end of the project to my surprize.

My project manager was only on site a few times and he apparently was managing another job in Mt. Vernon and my house is in Olympia so I understand his predicament. For a project of this size and expense, I expected to have more oversite and better direct communication with the crew especially since I expressed this as a concern before the project ever got started.

I would not recommend them to people who are disabled or elderly, who are physically not able to inspect that their work was completed.

The process was amazing from start to finish.

My estimate was far from the final cost of my roof replacement. I was disappointed with that experience and the flexibility from Valentine following signing my quote.

I was really impressed with the roofers. They went above and beyond to finish the project. It was already dark when they were cleaning up, and I was up there making sure they were careful on both days. They came in on time and left later that day. It was great work.

I felt like they took the time to go over the original estimate, explain what was what, the reason they stood out and how they were different, the value for the quality, and why they were different from the other competitors that were cheaper but did not have as good as quality of materials and warranty. It was a very easy process to go through, and I appreciate all of those things.

The team worked fast and delivered exactly what we wanted. They were professional, polite and cleaned up meticulously after each day's work. They solved the unforeseen problems (that always arise on projects like this) quickly and efficiently while consulting with me every step along the way. We couldn't be happier with the process and result.

We would have liked to have more manpower on our reroofing project, to reduce the time it took and reduce the time our roof was opened up.

Here's an email I sent to my experience manager yesterday after receiving a very strong complain from my neighbor who was negatively impacted by both the roofing & gutter crews:

We're in the process of getting the gutters installed yesterday & today. Unfortunately there was a two week lag between the ending of the roofing job and the start of the gutter job. During this time, about 1/3 of my home had no gutters. Last night during the atmospheric river that rained all night, we still did not have complete gutters on our house.

Aravia is my experience manager for the gutter job. Prior to the start of the job I provided very specific instructions about not using the neighbors property for tools, equipment, etc based on the experience we had with the roofing crew and the complaints my neighbor raised during that job. All was communicated clearly in advance Despite this notice, we had similar issues with the gutter installer that we did with the roofing crew - utilizing the neighbors property for gutter removal without asking permission. This rekindled all of the negative feelings and emotions my neighbor felt with the roofing crew and I took the brunt of her complaint head on. Not a pleasant experience to say the least.

After yesterday's issues, Aravia offered to speak with my neighbor to further apologize and try to smooth over the rough edges. I passed this along to my neighbor and received a long, detailed complaint about her experience with the roofing crew and the gutter crew which she asked me to pass along. I think it's important that you see this as well. She felt disrespected - again - with the gutter installer using her property without prior permission. I agree the roofing crew did an excellent job overall but from the comments from my neighbor, it could have been much better. The impact this experience has had on my neighbor and the resulting impact it's having between my family and my neighbor, will be long lasting. A simple apology won't fix the damage that was done.
