Should I be worried that external doors in my home are shifting to a point that I can't lock them without lifting them up? When we first moved into the house we noticed that both the front door and the back door had slight open area at the top of the door and locking them required a little fiddling. Unfortunately the gap at the top of the door (especially the back) has grown wider and it's near impossible to lock the door without a lot of work.

The roof and foundation of my house needs to be fixed. If I get the roof done first because it is leaking, will it be affected when the foundation is fixed?

Is a contractor responsible for returning things to their rightful state even if its out of the scope of their contract? I had electrical work done and they messed up the wires going to the security system. now it won't function. They said the reconnected it but now they are saying they don't mess with security systems. Do I call my security company and send the contractor the bill? I would like to add that i'm of the mindset that you do what is right not what you can get away with and most people don't follow that so I'm not sure to what extent people CAN be held accountable.

Our new home does not have insulation or sound proofing between floors. Can we fix this now? You can hear the TV from our den when in the master which is directly above. Would love to find a contractor that can remedy this, hopefully without pulling up the floor.

Is there anything I can do from inside my attic to battle ice dams? I'll worry about preventing them next, for now I have them and want to speed up their melt. Getting up to the gutter is not a safe option right now, so I'm wondering if there is anything I can do from the attic that won't make things worse.

Before hiring an architect or designer for my addition, what sort of questions should I ask them? Design is extremely important to me, and I feel like I can see that in their portfolio of work. What else should I be paying attention to?

When it comes to major home renovations, what improvements/fixes produce the best ROI? I just purchased a seriously outdated fixer-upper, and I’m hoping to renovate the most important parts of the home and put it back on the market within a year. I don't have time to renovate the entire home, and I'd like to know what kinds of renovations produce the best ROI so I know where to start.

I just got leaf filter gutter guards, steel mesh, 2 months ago. Now that it's fall there are leaves piled up on top, stuck with rain, etc. What to do? I was told maintenence free. Will they fall off eventually or will the snowy winter affect them?
