Overall we had a great experience building with Ashton Woods. A recommendation or two for improvement will be listed below.
The build quality of my home is poor.
Best experience with construction manager Ryan! Had many issues with sales office reps we had and he was able to solve all issues.
The bathroom in the primary leaked and flooded our wardrobe. We are still waiting for the issue to be resolved
Yes I would. Each person during the process has been very attentive. It was an overall stress free process.
Bad experience with construction management
I would rate the home with a three or four because the quality is par. It is not low, but it is not too high. It is midgrade. The finishings and quality of materials used to build the home would be a 4. One concern I had was that during the whole process of building the home with Ashton Woods Homes, we didn't have a lot of time for choosing the lot. After choosing the lot, there was a very short time period to go through signing the documents and making the payment. They explained what the process was going to be in advance, but I felt there was not enough time given for going through the process. There should be some relaxation there. After that, there were a lot of options to choose from in the design phase, such as the cabinets, flooring, structure, and all these things. There wasn’t enough time given for that. We had to choose everything the same day in two to three hours. It is a big house, and we’re going to live there for a long time. That was one of my greatest concerns in the process. Apart from that, the cost of the default materials for the quality is not that great. When you choose the options for better material, it is very, very expensive. There should be some kind of option for good-quality but affordable materials. When we selected everything we wanted to do, we thought it looked good initially, but it came out to be $90,000.00 for the selections of cabinets, flooring, and stuff. We decided to narrow down the options to a $20,000.00 to $30,000.00 budget. We still ended up at $50,000.00, so we had to compromise on our selections and go with midrange options or even below that to meet our budget. Overall, when it comes to my satisfaction with the home, I have not faced many problems. There have been no major problems so far. The quality of the home is really good. They delivered on time, when they said they would. The explanations and walk-throughs from start to end have been really helpful. The project manager, Shane, was very explanatory and explained everything in detail with patience. We had a very good relationship throughout the process and walk-throughs. He later had to go to a different Ashton Woods Homes property, so we had Bradly. He was also good, but we were missing Shane with the way he explained things, and we felt comfortable with him. That was another concern because I was hoping Shane would be there until the end. Unfortunately, we had to go with someone else. If Ashton Woods Homes could stick to the project manager until the end, that would be really helpful to the customers. It has been one year since completion. There are some warranty requests I have open, and I believe they will fix everything with good quality and in a good amount of time. Everyone has a personal choice of how the house will be, and to choose this community. One of our criteria was the location. The location of this community is awesome. The freeway is 1.5 miles away, and everything is close by for day-to-day living. Another criterion was the quality of the home. I heard Ashton Woods Homes was a great builder; they deliver on time and provide good quality. I feel there is not enough distance between the houses. It needs to be a little more spacious. The lot sizes average around .13, .12, and .16 acres. I was expecting at least .25 acres for good space between the houses. I was also expecting water sprinklers. It’s a very normal thing, because if there’s any accident and a house catches fire, the houses are too close. The houses could spread easily to other houses. There should be at least 30 feet, but currently it is 15 feet. The backyard is fine. Fortunately, I have a corner lot, so I have a decent-sized backyard. However, the front is smaller. There are a few houses that have decent-sized front yards, but lose the back yard. If it were a .25 acre lot, I feel like I would have space on all sides equally and space between the houses. I understand it is a business. If they start reducing lot sizes, they might sell another five or six houses at around $500,000.00 or $600,000.00. That’s going to generate another 3 million dollars. However, when it comes to living in them, the value will be less because if there is any fire accident, it will be very easy for nearby homes to catch fire. If I have to do fencing, it will be too close. Even if I do privacy fencing, I will not get much privacy. The fencing code is different for different communities. In this one, the code is that it has to be wooden fencing. Also, the roads are not very wide. When school starts, the buses come, and it is very difficult for people to manage the roads. If two big trucks are passing, it is very difficult to get through. They have to wait and go very carefully. The roads might be around 20 ft, so if they were 25 or 30 ft wide, it would manage the traffic better. I don't know if the builders have input on that or any say with the county. There are no tennis courts or recreation facilities. There is a swimming pool, but we are really missing a tennis court, a basketball court, and a park for the kids to play at. A community hall would be really great. We are missing that. Other communities have all these structures, but it was not planned for this community, and we miss them.
Poor design. Unfortunately I didn't notice a lot of imperfections on time.
I liked the quality of the construction and fittings. Also that there were no extra charges for PID and MUD.
I think that Ashton Woods does a really great job with the design of the home, and they're effective with the finishing with all of the minor details where a lot of times people don't pay attention to.
I would recommend them a friend because they were professional, on schedule, and the construction experience was great because all issues were taken care of within the first week.
Build quality is average.
House is beautiful but your builder in the amarillo creek is weak. Tons and tons of flaws. Electrical, HVAC, plumbing, network, and cosmetics. Either the builder is lacking attention to detail or the project manager failing to do their job (whoever signs off on it).
I am impressed with the after sales service, which was prompt and good quality
Overall the home buying experience at first was great. Until it came to the move in inspection, where the site manager, made every excuse in the book to not fix, items that were needing to be done.
I woulds recommend them to a friend because this is our first home we purchased and the experience was made to be super simple. Avery was great.
Overall the home isn’t horrible but I wouldn’t put starlight and Ashton woods in the same neighborhood
Every thing.
We love our home. It seems to be great quality. Minimal things were needed to be corrected at the walk through and post close appointment. We already received our first electric bill and our pleased with how well insulated the home is, especially in the Texas heat. I would feel confident a friend would be making a good choice in going with Ashton Woods Homes.
Unresolved issues from initial new home orientation/walk-through.
I was really disappointed that after the 1 year inspection, there have been so many defects reported. The most specific ones are major which include broken roof tile, misaligned roof rafter, loose wall that can cause injury to anyone who is nearby. The inspection items are getting resolved, but not quite complete yet and I’m working with a new representative who is questioning some of the reported items on the inspection. Now having to explain again the specifics on the report.
The purchasing process could be more transparent.
Some sloppy painting, overspray, doors not closing properly/uneven, not the attention to detail i expected
The team at Ashton Woods provides incredible after-sales service. They go the extra mile to ensure the customer is happy. Specifically for our maintenance, Matias is an amazing individual. He takes everything personally and makes sure the job is done correctly. He is definitely an asset to Ashton Woods.
The overall quality, along with professionalism from the entire staff has made it a great experience.
