Brian, the project manager was very communicative and let me know the expectations of each day. He was just really, really good.

Our experience with HDR may have had unexpected extenuating circumstances, but the only positive we can see from it is that HDR will go the distance to fix the problems that they themselves create. I don't think anyone expected their lead carpenter to leave the project half way through, which was a major factor in the project descending into unacceptability, but perhaps the reasons why he left were a direct result of issues with the company itself. Many of the companies contracted by HDR did substandard work, from the painters, floor refinishers to the granite installers, and all were touted by HDR as being the best in the business. We initially went with HDR hoping they would handle every detail, but ended up that we had to monitor their work to make sure it was done correctly. Even considering that unexpected issues arose, the way HDR initially handled those issues was not up to the level of quality we would have expected considering what we paid. Ultimately they did try to rectify their mistakes, mistakes that never should have happened in the first place.

The entire team at HDR does everything it can to make sure the whole experience is as pleasant and efficient as it can possibly be and that the end product is even better than you envisioned it could be.
Everyone was great. As I mentioned above, Jim Tibbs, the creative director and Robert Fukuda, the architect, were extremely easy to work with and did brilliant work, and Jaime, as described in question 11. Philip Anderson, the president of HDR, and Chris (? last name) were also on top of everything, very efficient, and good to work with. They all do everything they can to make sure the entire experience is as pleasant as it can possibly be and that the end product is even better than you envisioned it could be.
The design process was exceptionally good, brilliant actually, and working with Jaime, the foreman or head carpenter (not sure of his title), was delightful. He is such a good worker and very pleasant to have around. He maintains a very efficient and good humored and calm, quiet work environment. He really listens to one's concerns and then makes sure those concerns are addressed.
There was a small hiccup with the original bid. Everything ended up costing just a tad more, but to their credit, in order to honor the bid as much as possible, they lowered some costs, did some work at no charge, etc., and ended up bringing the job in at just a small amount over the original bid. And we agreed to the increase because we really wanted them to do the job, but this is one area where I would get more clarification in the future.
They remodeled the kitchen belonging to one of the unit owners in our building, and did a beautiful job.
The work they did was for our condo association. They designed and built a deck that is common area for the personal use of the penthouse residents. They had to balance the desires of the owners of the unit with those of the board of directors and work within a small budget. As president of the board, I was the one who worked with them on this project. After working with them on this project, and seeing how beautiful the deck is and how professionally they met the needs of all involved, I will be using HDR on a remodeling project in my unit . That's the highest recommendation I can give.
I can't think of anyone who hasn't done a great job so I put them all on the same level.
HDR are very good at correspondence and receiving and processing customer feedback. They go over the job with you after completion and I think that's fantastic.
A friend used HDR and recommended them to me. I've used HDR for several years.
I didn't get any other bids but I believe HDR's price was reasonable.
Jim Tibbs really did a fabulous job of working with us on the design, even making himself available to meet at our home on the weekends so as to minimize disruption to our work schedule. He also had great suggestions. Guillermo who was our lead during construction was also fantastic - great quality work, very polite and respectful.
The quality of workmanship, ease of communication, and organization of the project.
The price was higher than we had expected to spend initially based on the initial estimate, but they did work hard to meet our budget and once the contract was signed the price did not change.
I don't recall how I first found HDR but I reviewed their website and portfolio and set up an initial appointment based on the quality of work shown on their website.
Whenever it comes up, we recommend HDR.Remodeling.
Scott Montgomery, the guy who did the work, is a very valuable asset to Philip. We not only got along with him, but the quality of his work was exceptional. He knows what he's doing.
For me, the thing was that they were good about doing it exactly the way we described it. They followed through on everything that we wanted.
They are all extremely good.
Their professionalism and their range of services.
Generally, it was a good experience. We've had a lot of other contractors and HDR Remodeling is probably the best we've ever had.
Particularly, the first part of the project, planning. They were trying to find out what our requirements were, and they were very thorough, and they asked what would work for us. The whole design part of the process was very professional, and we appreciated that. One of the reasons we went with them was because of that.
I have used HDR Design services in two of my homes. I have been completely satisfied with the planning and execution of the design work. The final results are fabulous.
We love the final product of the design work.
Chris Begs did an exceptional job. Quality was of the utmost importance to him.
We called HDR to put in a new deck. Chris was excellent in showing us all of the options that we were wanting to look at and now the deck has been in for a couple of years and looks the same as when they first put it in. The crew was on time, worked all day long, cleaned up everything, they gave us a very good deal for the money, we could not have asked for more.
I will recommend and have recommended them in the past and in the future.
Chris was wonderful to work with, we will use them again in the future.
