We felt the early sales interaction didn't offer much value toward truly customizing our floor plan and other options to give a comprehensive overall design. Any changes made were at our direction without much inspiration from the sales folks. During several points the process seemed disjointed:
For example, we noticed after "final" review that there was no option in the plans for outside ducting the Over the Range microwave. When we asked about this it resulted in a change order costing us $1,100 out of pocket for something that wasn't even brought up as an option in the few design interactions we had. Further, I explained to Jim that we needed a 4x10 duct in the rear wall for an OTR with 6" duct in the joist space vented outside, and he refused to understand this and asserted that we would either need custom cabinetry or additional framing depth to accommodate a 6" round duct inside the wall. The HVAC contractor understood immediately what I needed during rough-in and built precisely what I had communicated to Jim in the first place.
After closing and move-in, our project manager asked why we didn't have a full granite backsplash behind our slide-in range and whether AHP knew we were planning on purchasing a slide-in versus a freestanding range. I answered simply: No one during the design process asked us.
We opted not to build the optional garage on our Hill V and we were told this would require a custom porch off what would have been the garage hallway door on the left elevation. The posts on this porch are 6x6 no. 2 PT, when the front porch posts are 4x4 nicely wrapped with exterior painted trim. This creates a strange appearance from the street since all other aspects visually match. No one brought this to our attention during design so we could make an educated decision about the final appearance. No one asked us.
We chose a shaker appearance for the interior doors. The vendor (Therma-Tru) used for exterior doors offers a shaker appearance that would have brought the interior and exterior door appearances together. No one asked us.
The side porch exterior door that would have led to the optional garage is a six-panel solid garage-type door. Some additional light would be nice in this hallway, but since we opted not to have the garage, additional door options were not presented to us for possible change. No one asked us.
My experience was wonderful from start to finish. I worked with James on redesigning the house. He had a lot of patience with me. Eric was in constant communication with us and listened to us when we had things that needed to be adjusted. Lowell was great, too. They were all professional and cared about giving us the house that we wanted.
I would very much recommend them.
When they poured our foundation, it was raining, and I told them not to do that. I've done concrete for 30 years. It created a cold spot in the foundation, which has caused multiple cracks. They refused to do anything about it. I came to the job site during construction, and the project manager did nothing about it even after I asked them to stop.
I’m sure this was a one off, but putting someone with no experience and people skills managing the construction was not a great experience.
The bright spot was Justin completing the build or it would have been a lower score
The plumber isn't good. Everything else is great.
Although my wife & I are relatively new to the lowcountry, I would recommend AHP to anyone considering constructing a home. AHP was very thorough and did their best to walk us through the process.
They were upfront and answered all questions. They were truly a pleasure to work with. Efficient and responsive to our needs. Made great and credible recommendations.
From day one the Fredericksburg Team was professional, had a plan, listened to our needs and then made a plan that was executable and within cost & schedule.
Very easy to talk to, and friendly
They was able to make building a home a possibility for us, from the planning stage to the building stage to the final walk through they made sure it was what we wanted and made sure it was done right. If anything was wrong they made sure it was fixed no questions asked.
10000%
Excellent communication throughout the build process.
My experience was absolutely wonderful from beginning to end. EVERY AHP Oxford employee listened carefully, gave welcomed, expert advice, exhibited a high degree of professionalism, was kind and left me with peace of mind.
I can't say enough good things about America's Home Place! This is my first ground-to-roof home, and America's Home Place did everything right! I love this company!
They were very nice, friendly, professional, and welcome you like you have known them forever.
Way overpriced. Poor build quality and finish work. Looks sloppy and thrown together. Pushy in the build process and didn’t listen to input or concerns. After the warranty period I’ll have to go back and fix a lot.
I would absolutely recommend America’s Home Place
Hassel free and problem free, THAT is 5 stars all by itself. I honestly put this off for 2 years because I thought it would be a nightmare but I'm more than pleased. These guys did great, communication was spot on, things rolled smoother than was told, no delays and finished product is outstanding. We moved in Feb this year and we absolutely love it !!
Affordability and the overall process
Buildi ng a home while residing in another state is a daunting task and assumes a lot of trust . Despite my concern with our salse person, the rest of the team stepped up and fully met our expectations.
They did a good job. We have been in the house since January and haven't had any problems so far. They did a quality job.
Everyone who worked on our house was very patient with us.
Switching our PMs mid build was a hard pill to swallow. We didn’t have some of the best subcontractors do quality work. But overall we love our home and are truly grateful! A lot of our limitations are due to our own budget and time of build.
This whole process was capitalism at its best. I was consistently told one thing while something else actually happened. Throughout the process things were thrown together without thought by the individual doing it. I requested, and paid for a plug in the floor. The plug was installed in the middle of the floor, not functional in any form. When I pointed this out they removed it and I was told I could hire someone else to put it where I wanted it. My fireplace hearth cap stone has an over hang of 1 1/2 inches on one side and 3 1/2 on the other side (pride in what they do right there). I have a light switch outside the door going into the garage from the house but not one by the utility door to shut it off when leaving or turning it one when entering through that door. The flooring that was installed was not the quality the salesman told me. The local branch did work to get that replaced but it’s not finished. The garage ceiling looks like a juvenile did it. The seams are very apparent, sunk in and smooth in comparison to the rest of the ceiling. I have chunks out of the foundation in the garage. I assume because the forms were taken off before it was time. I have chips out of my garden tub, The composite decking has cracks in it and there are various other things that have just add up to I will not recommend this company. But they were able to close on the project in the timeframe needed!!!
