Contracted Features Not Delivered — A Month of Runaround
We paid over $4,000 for a sliding patio door installation through Universal Windows Direct. Our contract explicitly included exterior black capping. Both the salesman and the UWD employee who came to verify measurements confirmed it was feasible.
On installation day April 30th the installers said they knew nothing about black capping. They also left a dozen rusty nails on our deck and failed to cap two interior holes at the bottom of the door.
Over the next month UWD sent a second installer to complete the capping. That installer and I agreed on site that it could not be done properly — it would only be 5/8 of an inch wide and would look bad on the door frame. A contracted feature that was explicitly sold to us simply could not be delivered.
What followed was a month of missed callbacks, broken promises, and being passed between multiple UWD staff members including their concierge, project manager, and operations manager. I missed parts of two workdays managing this. I had to open a formal dispute with Upgrade, their financing partner. I ultimately had to threaten a CFPB complaint and this public review before anyone with authority would engage seriously with my concern.
After nearly four weeks of follow up I received a $200 credit — less than half of what I requested for a contracted feature that was never and cannot be delivered. The dispute process also cost me three months of interest free payment time on my loan.
The door itself looks fine. The installation team however arrived unprepared, left our deck covered in rusty nails, and failed to complete contracted work. UWD’s follow through, internal communication, and customer service after the sale are deeply flawed. If everything goes perfectly you may have a fine experience. If anything goes wrong be prepared to spend weeks fighting for a resolution that should have taken days.
I would not recommend Universal Windows Direct.
I have already recommended your company to people
The salesman should have explained that these vinyl windows wouldn’t block the noise as much as the old aluminum ones did. Even if the old ones didn’t work they kept the outside noise down.
Very happy with the salesman very happy with the installing team. Everything went smoothly and they understand everything that I need.
Great service-good price -sales person was very helpful-installer was great
O
Salesman has no product knowledge regarding tinted glass. We expected not to be able to see in. We opted out for the grate in the windows, now that don’t match the windows in the rest of our home, very noticeable. The screen is not tight. This was a $4200 job that we could have had done correctly by Rosario windows. They charged $2800 for windows we are actually happy with. This company was hired on a recommendation from the bathroom remodel salesman, he had by mistake quoted $1900 but it turned out that was for one window. Be very careful with your contracts. I thought I was going to get a discount, but in the end I am stuck with something I don’t want. They never called me back either and offer to make it right. Terrible communication. I think you should look elsewhere.
So far we open the windows they’re so easy up and down to go outside sweets

The quality of the windows is great. The installation was rushed and therefore, the caulking was missed in some areas on two windows. It was recaulked when one of the windows needed replaced that was sent with a torn screen and Crack in the window. Customer service is excellent
The person that scheduled the install was rude
Had our windows installed, bay window was cracked in arrival. Waited 1 month for a new one. Cracked once again while the guy was installing it. Waited about another month for a third window. Took 7 months in total from our initial consultation until everything was completed. Absolutely crazy
Still waiting for repair service to my quartz countertop since a tool was dropped on it over 7 weeks ago! We received the incorrect trim twice and before it got in we had two heavy rain storms and snow which created a water spot on our living room ceiling. It was repaired . Still waiting to hear what the manufacturer id number is so I can put on the 2025 required IRS form to get the energy credit.
.....Lower prices
Easy process all the way through
When I was pricing windows, universal windows fit my budget best. Since I've used the lifetime warranty, I can confirm they will fix the issue, however, they've begun charging for the initial service visit, which wasn't part of my initial contract.
It was also near impossible to get a hold of a person who wasn't associated with the sales portion of the company. I had to repeatedly leave a message and wait for a call back which hopefully came at a convenient time.
All that said, I've had my windows for 8 years and this is the first time I've had to use the warranty, and the issue is fixed with no money paid for parts and labor.
