I'm very comfortable here
I think the Briggs location can do better at kids zone, I have a baby, and honestly 4of5 times I leave my baby they all look exhausted and bored to be there and help, in fact they call me to get my baby back cause he’s having a hard time, the thing is that they don’t want to do much so kids have quality time and so the parents can do some workouts
I like the environment. It’s clean the equipment is well maintain, and the staff is very friendly.
Clean, new, well-equipped facility. All the staff are friendly. Members are friendly too. I think the positive messaging contributes to this. Pleasant atmosphere. But, I hate the woman’s bathroom. It’s too cold and not private (when the door opens), the floor is always wet, cold, cracked concrete, and the lockers are too skinny to hold a bag. On the main floor: Swap some of the unused cardio equipment for spin bikes and stair steppers. Make room for people using free weights and doing body weight exercises. The free weight area in front of the mirrors seems to be underutilized and could use reorganizing to allow the type of exercise particularly women seem to be trying to do in the nooks and crannies. Not all the yoga instructors seem to be qualified or prepared to teach. Have them keep their announcements to 1-2 minutes.
Very friendly and welcoming. Big clean facility. Parking is very problematic.
Great variety of classes as well as good instructors. Love having open time for PICKLEBALL from Monday through Friday - 7AM - 10 AM.
Very friendly staff and excellent instructors . I look forward to every class!
Need more classes for kids with discounts for families with discounted memberships.
Generally very good. One time recently showed up on a Monday during open hours (~6:15am) and the facility was closed with no indication of why, which gives me less confidence in the place as a whole. Could use more incline-adjustable benches, probably no need to have flat non-adjustable ones at all.
Too much of the limited workout area is dominated by the jungle gym PRX thing. Some people use it but most don't. I'm not sure where it could go but replacing it with machines for working your core would be good.
Parking is tough
Nobody is dropping weights—HUGE plus!
Low-key staff and atmosphere. Love the classes and instructors.
The womens locker room needs more cleaning and soap refilled more often. Shower drains drain very slowly.
I was warmly greeted by the class instructor on my first date of attendance at Water Exercise in the Briggs Activity Pool. I greatly enjoyed the class and have been attending at least once per week since then. Great low-impact water exercise.
The main reason I would not recommend the Plum Street YMCA is because the parking is horrible. It’s very frustrating to get there for a class and not have any parking and then have to find parking on the street and put money into the meter. And so often finding out, you don’t have any change to put in. That is the main reason I would not recommend the Plum Street YMCA. Overall, I enjoy the YMCA very much just the parking is so frustrating that I would never tell someone to become a member there because I would not want them to go through the frustration of dealing with this parking. One thing I will say very positive about the Plum Street YMCA is they have amazing people at the front counter. They are always so helpful and I truly appreciate them.
Friendly staff and others; love excellent classes with Beth; small facility; good condition; and very welcoming, including to seniors!
I like the variety of exercise machines that are available and the ease in using them.
Love the YMCA for my healthy goals.
The Y has something for everyone. They are always open to suggestions to make a place for each of us in the community.
The layout of the lifting area is extremely sub optimal. Taking away the second rack and replacing with a smith machine of all things was a big mistake. The location of the stair masters being put where people regularly stretch is a big problem. There is also not a dedicated area that is actually big enough for people to get a mat and scratch. I have PT exercises that I need to do for my core and I’m regularly unable to get a spot to stretch because there is none. The ratio between legitimate lifting equipment and unused cardio equipment needs to be addressed. There are far too many unused Casio equipment that could be space that used for a power rack instead. I could go in and on but I expect that no changes will be done.
Seems like parking at both locations will be worse in the future.
Plum has warm, welcoming friendly staff as you come in. That is IF you can get a parking place. If that were easier, my score would be a 10. Please consider creating an exit for cars parked behind the building. It is dangerous to have to back out as people are driving straight through to exit. I have decided that I will return home if that's the only parking left.
Once inside, I find it to be clean, good signage and an excellent yoga class.
Plum Street is convenient for those of us who work downtown and I appreciate the extended opening hours. I am a little sad that most of the interesting classes are at Briggs, which is inconvenient, so I can't whole-heartedly recommend it.
Cleanliness and maintenance
Repaint the gym so it isn't so bright. The Shelton Y is much easier to see the ball when playing pickleball because they have gray colored walls.
