Clean, new, well-equipped facility. All the staff are friendly. Members are friendly too. I think the positive messaging contributes to this. Pleasant atmosphere. But, I hate the woman’s bathroom. It’s too cold and not private (when the door opens), the floor is always wet, cold, cracked concrete, and the lockers are too skinny to hold a bag. On the main floor: Swap some of the unused cardio equipment for spin bikes and stair steppers. Make room for people using free weights and doing body weight exercises. The free weight area in front of the mirrors seems to be underutilized and could use reorganizing to allow the type of exercise particularly women seem to be trying to do in the nooks and crannies. Not all the yoga instructors seem to be qualified or prepared to teach. Have them keep their announcements to 1-2 minutes.
Very friendly staff and excellent instructors . I look forward to every class!
Too much of the limited workout area is dominated by the jungle gym PRX thing. Some people use it but most don't. I'm not sure where it could go but replacing it with machines for working your core would be good.
Love the YMCA for my healthy goals.
The Y has something for everyone. They are always open to suggestions to make a place for each of us in the community.
The layout of the lifting area is extremely sub optimal. Taking away the second rack and replacing with a smith machine of all things was a big mistake. The location of the stair masters being put where people regularly stretch is a big problem. There is also not a dedicated area that is actually big enough for people to get a mat and scratch. I have PT exercises that I need to do for my core and I’m regularly unable to get a spot to stretch because there is none. The ratio between legitimate lifting equipment and unused cardio equipment needs to be addressed. There are far too many unused Casio equipment that could be space that used for a power rack instead. I could go in and on but I expect that no changes will be done.
friendly staff, welcoming attitude, good classes
I enjoy my time working out at the Shelton YMCA, but coming and going, visually, could use a little bit of help. Ever since the Shelton YMCA opened the landscaping has slowly declined into the state that it is in right now. Some of the items that should be addressed are exposed irrigation, piping, weeds, lack of beauty, bark, and areas of exposed dirt, disorganized, art projects, littering the area, and recent heavy equipment activity that has left other areas unsightly. Recently a landscaper came in and cut down some trees and looks like built a path. The trees that were cut down and the area surrounding them were left unfinished. I have commented in the past about the exposed irrigation system, and lack of ground cover, but nothing has happened to date.
Staff is always so nice. My first experience with the Y,
It’sagreatplacetoexercise.
cool place to workout.
Take the Boomers for Bone Density class. Very helpful to stay flexible and mobil. All instructors are good but Angela is especially good
More cardio classes.
The Y has a great mix of members in the gym, from kids to retirees. It's clean, bright, has good equipment, and the staff is always friendly.
Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent facilities and hours are accomodating to both kids and adults.
The facility has excellent equipment and is extremely clean.
Suggestion box: announce 15 minutes prior to closing. When it said kids zone open on the pool schedule it doesn't say that it closes at the same time as the pool. That doesn't allow for getting rinsed and dressed without opening the door to find multiple staff waiting in the hallway with your child. That was embarrassing not only for me but my 13 year old daughter. It's the first time he hasn't wanted to go swimming with the bigger kids because he wanted to stay and play with friends. We didn't know they closed at the same time as we haven't used our membership often. I felt incredibly disappointed. The schedules weren't posted. I had to ask for a copy.
Great customer service, friendly staff, clean facility, lots of classes
Seems like some of the instructors are great and others don’t seem to really want to be there. Swimming should be fun and our kid was pretty bored in between “reps” of doing laps and practicing. Maybe some more group activities or fun to keep kids focused and not bored.
All the associates are very friendly and helpful.
Pleasant place to exercise
Very inexpensive swim lessons. With a membership.
Poor instructor experience
We love the swim lessons at the Shelton Y! The instructors are dedicated, the classes are small, and the facility is clean
The staff are great with kids and make it very enjoyable
