There is a lot of competition for the machines downstairs (for example the lat pulldown machine is always busy-- we need more than one) while meanwhile, most of the ellipticals upstairs remain unused. We also need more than two stair steppers-- one is almost always broken, and there is stiff competition for them. The way space and resources are allocated doesn't seem to match actual needs and popularity of various equipment. The floors are never clean. For the multipurpose rooms, it's important that the floors be cleaned regularly because people are lying down in there doing various exercises for classes-- it's unpleasant to find big chunks of mud and hair all over the floor the minute you sit on your mat.
Friendly staff. Love the sauna!
The equipment is good and the yoga class is good
Folks at the front desk are always wellcoming!
Great, friendly, helpful staff.
The people are friendly, and there are alot of offerings!
The receptionists are very frienndly and helpful.
Equipment rack next to the Matrix multipurpose machine is too crowded. It’s difficult to reach kettle bells without straining or moving other equipment out of the way. Also creates bottlenecks because it gets so crowded in that area.
love the front desk reception folks around 10 a.m. on Wednesday and Monday and rock star instructor Ashley for yoga! parking is terrible.
They have absolutely horrible parking. I would never invite somebody to join and then know that they will not be finding a parking place for the classes that they wanna take. It’s very frustrating and stressful when I get to the Y and find out there’s no place to park and now I have to come up with some cash to pay the parking meters. You really have to do something about this parking. I love The Y, but I would never have my family come to the Y because the parking is so horrible. Please please do something about the parking.
The best thing about the YMCA by far, and an area where the Y really shines is that Kickstart offers an actual orientation to all the weight machines with a personal trainer and a body analysis in the small office where I was able to learn more about the true state of my health than i have ever learned in a doctor's office. Wish the personal trainers were an affordable option for me but I am totally priced out of that. Also, the parking stripes are angled for people to enter from 5th ave, but not people coming from Lacey who turn into the lot on Plum Street. Not only insufficient parking but very hard to turn into from Plum St. Often have to pay a meter and park on the street. Keep up the Kickstart orientations as it ensures people a safe and productive workout when they know precisely how to use the machines, and why. And the electronic body analysis is amazing.
Iisi signed up for a weight-training class at the Plum Stree Y; it was focused on improving bone density, and was intended for seniors. It sounded good to me as I am a 75 year old woman, and I expected that the instructor would be familiar with working with seniors whose mobility could be limited. I am not disabled in any way, but found both the pace of the class and the equipment available to be very uncomfortable. There was a lot of up and down movement, and that was difficult as the mats we were provided were very thin and uncomfortable, not to mention dirty. More importantly, I was disappointed by the manner in which the class instructor provided direction on what specifically we would be working on (toning? building strength? flexibility?) Afterwards, I was quite sore for a couple of days, which ordinarily would not stop me from continuing in a class (I do like a good challenge)j, but I really felt that I could be injured due to the issues noted above. I would like to request a refund if that is possible, as I am on a fixed income and I would like to be able to sign up for additional training, but my limited budget would not make that possible. I would appreciate a response from a staff person to discuss this further, and to ensure that you understand my issues. My name is Joanne McCaughan and my number is 360-480-2596.
I love the facility and especially the therapy chairs but the parking really sucks.
None of the classes are geared towards working people. I miss Sat yoga.
The most welcoming staff greet me every time I walk through the door. They are awesome!
Quit moving equipment around. It is so irritating to find equipment keeps getting moved when you just get used to its location.
Once inside, everything is a 10! The usual morning greeter is a delightful woman. I find the Y and restroom very clean and the atmosphere to be friendly and positive. Chair yoga is great, and both instructor Ashley and classmates are excellent and friendly. We all have a bond. The only negative is parking availability.
I really like that there's a wide variety of people represented amongst those of us who are utilizing the Plum Street Y. It feels like an accepting place for everyone.
I appreciate having a place I know I can go to work out in a positive, comfortable environment
The staff are always freindly, the facility is always clean and it has all the equiopment I need for my workouts.
My husband and I visit the Plum street location 3 times a week. Every time we are met with friendly staff and the equipment is kept up even though it gets a lot of use.
The staff is very welcoming. I don’t go to socialize but I’m inspired by others.
Staff are friendly and helpful. Many classes I would like to take are offered. It is comfortable for my whole family to visit.
Was looking forward to using playcare soon now that school is out. But now I am having surgery. So looking forward to using playcare this August
Its a great place to be. The parking lot has been a problem sometimes but I think the staff is really trying to keep an eye on it!
Great place for rehabilitation of my knee after surgery.
parking is terrible. if you don't get there early, you have to drive around. parking lot is too small. also, gym could be updated
Welcoming. Confusion regarding parking though
No issues
Staff are so friendly and helpful, instructors are marvelous!
Clean facility, I like how there is space for bodyweight/floor movements, I appreciate the hydro/cryomassage and sauna rooms, friendly staff, variety of equipment
Please make the massage machines use once per day for every machine (not just per type of machine) This would allow members to swap to another machine if it's open. Or allowing a second use with a time interval. Thanks
Unlikely if you like to swim since the Plum Street YMCA doesn't have a swimming pool, but likely if you don't wanna swim & do anything else that you wanna do. If you do wanna swim, go to the Briggs YMCA.
Parking is becoming a challenge and problem several mornings
I would say make the group exercises room a new paint job or floor redone. Not a gray color please. It is a bummer there is not child care there anymore, but I understand because not very many parents go to it.
Staff is friendly and helpful, the space is clean and airy, the class offerings are good.
Facilities are old compared to other local gyms and YMCAs (i.e. Crunch, LA Fitness, Planet Fitness, Pearl Street Y). Location and parking are inconvenient. Would love a steam room to avoid going to Briggs' over clorinated hot tub.
The Briggs YMCA is a really friendly, safe place for my family to recreate. The swimming lessons are really well structured and taught by skilled people who love kids. The variety of programming is fun, too. Also, during the cold, dark, wet months of the year, it’s so nice to have an indoor facility to have fun and exercise.
Open atmosphere, friendly staff, good selection of weight machiens. Good parking.
Very welcoming!! Awesome!! Whoo! Hoo!
I love the Y. Staff very friendly in most cases. I think it could use more HIIT equipment and spaces. Additionally there needs to be more clear signage stating that mobile devices/ entertainment can only be used with headphones. There have been multiple instances of people listening to/watching their own shows, podcasts, music, etc loud enough for everyone else to be forced to listen as well.
I'd give it a 10 but parking is horrible, even with the member placards for the dashboard.
I wish that they still closed at 9pm. Otherwise I enjoy all other aspects of the plum st Y
I like being a member of the Y and having places close to workout. Love some of the classes and teachers - Barre (Maren) and some of the yoga teachers; use the well stocked workout room too. The mats need upgrading thought they work. I am disappointed that both places are shoddy feeling as old and not kept up. At Plum - the lockers are sticky making them hard to open and close, the sauna is too small. At Briggs - the lockers room is still funky and shoddy despite the new ‘upgrade’ with too small lockers. It is disappointing that the hot tub dysfunction is so frequent. As a swimmer, I wish there were more options in town as the lap swims are very crowded (not your fault). The price of membership is on the high end for having these issues, in my opinion. You send too many emails for surverys, also. All that said, I am grateful to be a member and love the ‘welcoming all’ culture that includes me! This explains the 7 vs higher score.
I really love the variety of classes available for a wide range of abilities, in addition to access to all of the equipment. I have recommended the Y to my entire family.
Open longer hours and more days (e.g. holidays); more free opportunities for women to improve in resistence training
Love the classes especially body pump with Tammy and Carissa
Weekend hours are too short. My best blocks of free time during the week are Saturday and Sunday afternoon and evening, and you are closed then. I can't be the only one who needs this schedule-- seems like it would be true for lots of people with 9 to 5 jobs?
Plum street Y is my favorite. It’s open and spacious design keeps it from being stale and musty smelling or feeling overly crowded.
Parking is a nightmare!
