My kids did not have a consistent teacher and I felt the teachers were more more into their routine of teaching than seeing each individual student.
Dan is such a wonderful instructor that loves his craft. He explains things in a way that helps he relax being a 46 year old. I learned to float on my first lesson due to his calmness. I would definitely recommend lessons at the Briggs Y
The class does not teach anything related to getting child used to water. No tips have been given to help child used to getting water on head or face or anything else. Class will sing 1 or 2 songs then just have playtime.
The sessions seem a little chaotic and after 3 years of swim lessons my child still doesn’t know how to swim.
Teachers we're encouraging and patient.
More rigorous than the previous program we were enrolled in. Our kid is making real progress.
I have found that swim lessons vary significantly based on the instructor. My daughter's most recent instructor is a younger man who has been wonderful! He gives specific feedback in order to help students improve their form. Many instructors seem to go through the motions without seeming to care if students make progress.
Everyone is professional and nice. Especially Jackie who’s been so supportive and helpful.
The students spend a lot of time sitting around in the pool in Level 3 and not practicing their skills. Wonder if there could be more supporting student 2 at a time with back floats, etc. I just don’t see how my student will advance to level 4 at this rate.
They are easy going, understanding, don’t judge for showing up a little late, and know how to talk to and teach the children in a fun way in the water!
Unable to get into swim lessons like we need.
Great people and facility
I have found that the quality of the lessons vary significantly based on the instructor. Many of the instructors do not provide any corrective feedback that allows children to make progress improving their skills. Additionally, I don't feel that the class sizes at my daughter's current level (level 3) are small enough to allow for enough active instruction and practice.
Instructors are kind and patient. They help my kids build real skills. Despite the time limit and class size, they still get plenty of one-on-one instruction.
We’ve enjoyed the swimming lessons at the Y! I like that the classes for younger swimmers aren’t huge so that they can get individualized attention.
Staff do not help with enrolling for swim lessons, we have to look up every month ourselves if classes are available or not, have to wait for months to get into a class
Hands down will recommend to others.
Parent tot swim lessons are fun but I see it as more of recreational swimming than lessons. Singing songs is fun, but water safety and learning how to swim would be preferred.
We have been attending Parent tot for about a year. In recent months, more classes have been added at the same time as our class. It is very loud and crowded. It is difficult to hear instructions, space to swim is very limited, and it is overwhelming for both the parents and the toddlers. Unfortunately, I am strongly considering no longer attending Parent tot for this reason.
Worked with a variety of coaches over several sessions, and they all worked hard to make the lessons fun and comfortable for kids. Main downside is that the lessons fill fast
Done of the new instructors aren't really showing the kids much.. Spend more time playing than actually learning to swim
The pool is cold when they get to level three, and during swim team the male coach that leads swim team is soooo loud. It hurts my ears.
It’s fun, constructive instructions and I exercise too!
I gave it a seven because there's not a lot of options to attend swimming lessons in this community and I am happy that you provided. I am dissatisfied because there no makeup days are offered when the pool is not accessible or an instructor isn't available. It may not seem like a huge inconvenience to a corporation such as yours but to a family when one class is unavailable in a 4-week session it matters and simply offering the option to drop into another session within that month's time would really go a long way. If you can't find a way to do that at least provide the participant with credit for the class so they can apply it to future sessions. Your facility is the only one that I've experienced where when class is canceled on the part of the facility they don't offer a refund.
I feel like it’s play time with the kids when the toys are brought out in level one, and the fact my child will never get comfortable getting their face and head in the water when the teacher never lets her shoulders go beneath the water
Instructor is extremely disinterested. Phoning it in would be giving too much credit. Just does bare minimum and then leaves a lot of unused space in an already short lesson.
Hard to get a spot, sign up starts too early, some instructors are great but others not and can’t always stay with same one, pool is so busy and loud during lessons, and mostly that there are not enough showers or space in the family changing area and for single parents or same sex parents with opposite gender child over 5 that is not yet independent in showering/changing it makes it very difficult
I took parent/tot class in the past with my older son and it was wonderful! This teacher did tons of free time and just the bare minimum of the curriculum. Wasn't much different than me just going to open swim.
The level 2 swim instructor my child was assigned to kicked my son out of the first class without giving any reason and made him go to level 1.
Since the swim instructor did not give me a reason, I’d at least like to hear from somebody else at the Y regarding why.
The following week, the same swim instructor made another child in his class get out of the pool. This child was not causing any harm to himself or others. It seems the instructor was disciplining him for not participating in the way he wanted him to. This swim instructor seems prone to shaming and excluding kids, particularly those with special needs.
The other swim instructors my kids have had at the Y have been a delight, but this particular swim instructor makes me less likely to recommend swim lessons at the Y to others for fear of their kids getting assigned this instructor or one like him.
Pricing is great, instructors are knowledgeable, I prefer a slightly smaller class size for level 3.
My son is 6 months old and I was hoping this class would have a bit more instruction on water safety and teach him how to avoid drowning as the first step. Although it is really fun to play with my son in the water, I'm not sure how this class is going to teach him the beginning steps to swimming. It seems like the class is centered around toddlers between the ages of 2-4 years old not younger.
Good class sizes, pool is a good size, and the teachers are great at directing kids and helping them safely get out of their comfort zone so they can learn important safety skills.
The lady who is my daughter’s swim instructor, is absolutely amazing. Engaging, holds limits, keeps it fun, and stays connected with each childs learning. She’s beautiful.
My daughters swim teacher doesn't seem like she's interested in being there. She's in level 1 and along with being nervous, I think the kids in her class need encouragement and positive affirmations when doing skills. There is none of that at all. She also talks about testing next week on things she's not teaching them. So now I have a worried 4 year old who isn't very excited for swim lessons anymore.
Instructors were over 30-minutes late to a lesson; other times inattentive and in general lacking professional competence.
My youngest really clicked with Makayla and she was a great teacher!
life guards and instructor were terrific. Good lesson plan
More educational for the tots lessons.
Instructors are highly variable but in general we've had a positive experience. With two kids at the same level it can be challenging to register both for the same class.
Some of the instructors are excellent but some seem bored. As teachers of young kids, bringing enthusiasm every time makes a big difference. We love the kind, engaged teachers and groan when we get someone who seems to just be going through the motions.
Honestly we haven't been able to attend - the first week the instructor was sick (not a big deal), the second week we showed up but there was no announcement that lessons were starting and my partner didn't see anything obvious so ended up swimming w/ our kiddo solo, third week we were sick. Hoping for better luck this week.
Sending a welcome email after signing up. Outline suggestions or how to prepare for the class, how are the classes set up, and information to show up 10-15mins early. Also I could be helpful to share there are showers available. Also a couple weeks before the class session is going to end to give a reminder about how to sign up for the next one if you’re interested in the next session.
We love how our instructor Jessica brings fun items for the kids to use/play with while learning to swim
I like the affordability, and I felt like my young child was not overly pressured to perform. I think half of the battle with learning skills is making it enjoyable for kids so they continue.
Engaging for my 10 month
Wonderful swim instructors who are great with kids!
great!
Dan is a great instructor. Unfortunately it’s way too hard to get a spot for lessons, so I have not been able to keep up on them. Adult lessons are very important and the beginning and intermediate classes are always full.
Small group sizes. Coach is able to keep it fun but also encourage growth.
Convenient location, lots of class options and nice teachers
Our level 1 swim instructor was very sweet and kind with the kiddos in the class, however, she did not take the time to introduce herself to the parents and I’m not sure if any of us knows her name. She does a wonderful job, there’s just some room for improvement with her communication with the families.
