Equipment is usually available, kept clean by users. Friendly atmosphere.
Staff Friendly and understanding.
Plum street: Great - staff, hours, location, amenities.
Great instructors, clean facility, and super people to meet when you take classes
I joined to play basketball and swim after work. Because of your schedule, I can’t play basketball until 8-9 pm and I can’t swim until 7ish, assuming a lane is available. The membership is a bad value for adults that don’t want to use the weight/cardio rooms.
Very welcoming environment to all people!
My wife is already considering joining at the Briggs Y.
The times for programs offered are not friendly for working parents.
There is not enough parking for many of the classes. There has been times when I wanted to go to a class and I could not find a place to park so I did not get to participate.
Pls add more exercise classes at both Oly locations
The women's showers are awful. Inconsistent pressure, heat and timing. It makes showering after swimming difficult One shower goes off after 8 seconds (I counted). They're also dirty and the tiling is old and gross.
Parking is pretty bad. Often no parking available at 6pm
Staff is friendly and helpful at Briggs Y! The instructors always welcome people to class whether attendees arrive the first day of the session or mid session - everyone is welcome anytime and that means a lot to me. Thank you, Briggs Y!!!
Staff is friendly. Facility is always very clean. Nice variety of classes. I go because my husband needs the joints in motion class. I do enjoy lap swimming when I can.
I like the accepting atmosphere and class offerings for seniors.
Very friendly staff. They are very welcoming. Facilities more than adequate and clean.
Nice facility, friendly staff, a variety of classes
I'd like few more upright spinning bikes up in the cardio room. The two upright bikes are sometimes occupied.
Staff are always welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The amenities and membership pricing are unbeatable. My only suggestion is that the YMCA please change out their mats/yoga mats in the small training room and weight room. The material of these are incredibly hard to wipe down and sanitize properly and they are falling apart and shedding foam pieces during use. Also, the floor of the small training room off the weight room consistently feels dirty.
My wife and I were life long YMCA members. In fact, my wife retired as a Y Director in Seattle. As of today we switched to the Tumwater Valley Athletic club for only $10 more a month and world less frustration. We now also have access to Thrive Lacey via Medicare Silver Sneakers at no cost to us.
At the Y, we both used the Cardio and Strength Training equipment as well as the pool. In all areas, a lack of enforcement of simple rules makes the Y a mediocre experience. Teenagers (and some seniors) sit on the strength machines for 10-20 minutes looking at their phones, only to become upset when cheerfully asked if we could work in a quick set. Phones are used and photos taken in the locker rooms. Thefts occur regularly. The pool lifeguards do not try to facilitate lane speeds during lap swim (i.e. slow, med, fast lanes) leading to chaos and conflict.
All of these issues could be easily remedied by YMCA staff gently intervening and coaching. That may be against the YMCA "way", though would help serious fitness seniors (such as my wife and I) have a more positive experience.
We wish the Y all the best in the future.
It's a little pricier than my local gym, and an extra 35 minutes away, but I love the variety of classes and the pool.
Friendly, welcoming, good variety of activities
Very comprehensive activities and great staff!
I love the ymca. The guests and staff are always friendly. And the Barre class taught by Maren is absolutely fantastic.
Though Briggs is a a
I have had conversations with members of your staff regarding your aquatics program including the program manager. I've asked about the signage that states that you must shower before entering the pool or hot tub. Yet I have never seen the staff enforce this rule. The reason you have so much surface foam on the hot tub is directly a result of all the perfumes, deodorants, hair gels, and various other contaminants. It also states that no shoes are to be worn around the pool surfaces. Walk into the men's shower area and look down...The other day there was actual dirt in the form of shoe prints headed to the pool area. If the signs are meant to be mear sugestions then state it as such OR enforce state health code which requires the enforcment.
Great classes, instructors, and staff but parking is an issue at both briggs and plum,
Either develop more parking or spread out the classes. Stop doing more than one survey a year.
Overcrowded, no parking which will only get worse when several hundred apts added to that area.
Several times I've showed up for a class and it is something by video.
The women’s locker room showers are not clean. This is off putting.
Love that there are no blaring TVs. The facility is always very clean and the machinery is well maintained. I LOVE that they got the Solitaire app back on the treadmills :-)
I like that it’s a community gym and not a typical gym. I LOVE the dance classes!
Briggs YMCA is truly a vibrant gathering place for family and friends—a welcoming community center filled with energy, connection, and care. From the joyful laughter of young children to the steady presence of older generations, it brings people of all ages together in a spirit of inclusiveness and encouragement. The atmosphere is friendly, active, and uplifting, where people support one another in their journeys toward physical health and mental well-being. It’s more than just a place to exercise—it’s a place where community thrives,
I am not at the Y to make friends. I just attend a few classes and play pb. I would recommend people go to the Y if they want to
The facility, especially the locker rooms need to be updated and remodeled.
I only got the membership for swimming and the pool is always PACKED
Briggs Y has been very crowded the last few months. No parking available 0845-0900, especially MON, WED, FRI when 0800 and 0900 classes intersect plus full pickleball crowd.
Good facility! Plus I like to workout with friends
Your Upper Administration staff/Managers are unhelpful and don’t return calls. I have to call several times and leave several messages and even then, they rarely call back. It makes it really unfortunate and difficult for your frontline staff, because they have “Leaders” that put them in challenging situations when these so-called “Leaders” aren’t doing their job and frontline staff take the brunt of customer-service. If there were more options in our community that had a pool and childcare, I would definitely be going to them. At this point, I believe I’m wasting my money for a location that doesn’t care.
Great facilities for families
There are so many children in thr weight room and the parking lot is always full of parents waiting in their car, leaving no spots for others to park. Also, the y allowed somebody to well puppy mill puppies outside the building last year and that is still weird
Well-trained staff, great facilities, lots of options for class times
The facilities are nice, the staff is kind, our son loves swim lessons (and he is hard to please)
I often recommend it to friends who can receive a free membership through their Medicare health plan. I really enjoy the pool classes.
I love the y! I usually go to Plum but sometimes to Briggs when I want the pool. And the reason for my survey today is that I wanted to share that I’m disappointed that the Briggs hot tub is gross. The two times I have used it it is so sudsy and dingy, and last time some foreign object touched me under water. Ew! Other than that, I’m very happy with everything.
I PAY for my membership. I only use the pool three times a week for medical issues. I am older and have walking /balance issues. I drive 25 one way miles to come to the 10 am aerobic class. I leave early each time to get to the pool to find a handicap parking space or a lease a space close enough to the entrance. I have been a member for several years and the issue of parking has increased. (I am not alone in this concern) Obviously there has been an increase with members needing handicapped parking.
Some one needs to address this issue, by adding more spaces around the corner or across from the five or six ones available.
This last Monday I drove around six times to fine ANY space available whether handicapped or not. As I was driving (along with five other cars behind me) I saw four cars with people in their drivers seats with the cars running looking at their phones. Perhaps a memo to people to leave the parking area when they get in their cars. Drive somewhere else to check messages; when you see five cars pass you 4- 6 times looking for parking you should get the hint, they need your space. I've heard people even hook at the drivers and they look and just sit there longer. Isn't the YMCA theme, KINDNESS AND SAFTEY.
When I finally found a spot (not even an handicapped) I walked into the building and found around 12 older folks sitting having coffee and great laughs and conversations. I understand the YMCA promotes fellowship but not at the expense of others who are trying to get to their classes on time or trying to find a parking space to support their disability. Stop serving them coffee. Have them go across the street and have coffee. (maybe they don't want to pay for it but I also do not want to fall.)
This issue has been going on for awhile and several of us have not said a word.
We suspect you have over sold or free or paid memberships which puts a strand on the parking lot. This is an issue of safety. Parking on the street side (beside the apartments) is a hazard for those who have walkers, canes or just plain balance issues.
The other risk I have seen time and time again is people driving down the side street and a YMCA car coming out of the parking and almost getting hit, because we can't see around the car parked on the street as we try to exit. How many fender benders do you have to hear about before the visibility is improved.
I'd love a small second weight room focused on free weights and stretching space.
Senior water volleyball
Love love love coming to the Y! I have one suggestion to add, please add like a spa room with tanning, red light therapy, spa pods, massages etc. I would totally pay more for my membership every month to be able to have peace of mind my child is safe in the kid zone for 30 mins while I take care of myself. The hardest thing about being a single parent is doin it all alone, worrying about leaving your child with someone, and feeling guilty for caring for yourself. Please please please add asap! I know there are sooooo many moms who would love this too. I’m sure dads would totally use it too! Huge money making opportunity for yall!
