We just got our basement finished by Finished Basements Plus, and we absolutely love it! After having an unfinished and cluttered basement for the last several years that we never used, we got the foundation repaired and waterproofed (also by Basements Plus) and then went all the way and had it finished as well. From the planning process to all the different aspects of the finishing work, Basements Plus was great to work with. Grace was extremely helpful with making our materials selections and gave us a great idea of how everything would look. Our project managers, Dan and Steve, were both very friendly and kept us informed along the way. All of the workers were excellent at their trades, and we especially appreciated Deon and Rob for being so accommodating with our questions about the work they were doing along the way. We now have things in our home that we always wanted but previously thought would have to wait for our next house, and Basements Plus did a beautiful job helping us make them a reality. We’re thrilled with how this has changed our home, and we can’t recommend Basements Plus enough!

Our project managers, Dan Abraham and Steve Marco, were both great. Dan was very helpful when I needed advice on how to run speaker wire behind the drywall frame in what eventually became our new home theater space, and as a result it looks very clean just how we hoped. Steve was great at answering questions about maintenance for everything after the project was complete, which I appreciated as a layman.

I cannot say enough great things about Finished Basement Plus. This entire experience exceeded my expectations at every level. From the very beginning through project completion, the communication, professionalism, and quality of work were exceptional.

Jacob Buback, the project manager, was truly outstanding. His communication was clear, consistent, and proactive, and every issue—no matter how small—was handled promptly and professionally. He made the entire process feel seamless and stress-free.

A huge thank-you to Jeremy and Jim, who did a wonderful job keeping the project site clean, orderly, and moving along efficiently. Their attention to detail and commitment to maintaining a clean workspace did not go unnoticed and was greatly appreciated.

Overall I will have a hard time recommending them because we were over budget & over timeline. We are happy with the end result and the people and crew were wonderful to work with. However, BP fell short on my expectations and the reasons why I selected them over competitors. I was told the portal would be a way to project manage and communicate changes, watch the process. But it was nothing more than a glorified payment portal. Our final project manager Dan was the highlight of the project and did a great job at the end of the project off-boarding. We played phone tag with the owners for a few weeks to provide this feedback but were unable to pin him down, so this is in lieu of that.

When you move out of the kitchen and everything, living pretty much out of boxes, it can be stressful, but they made it so easy for me. They were just as pleasant, every single one of them. We have just started working with Basements Plus in Commerce Michigan. We have been very impressed with the process so far (actual construction starts in 2 weeks, about 5 weeks from the start of the process and I will update). The initial walk through and estimate was conducted onsite by a very knowledgeable and helpful sales/design person (Joe McGlinn). He was very knowledgeable about the company and their products and helped us with the initial design concept. We then moved onto the actual design and selection. We were guided through the process by Miranda Meabrod. She helped us with our selections and design choices. She also was very helpful in refining our design and made several helpful suggestions without pushing us. She has been very patient as we had lots of questions and changed our minds several times. We really enjoyed working with Miranda. This company also assigns a project manager and their online tools give us easy access to all documentation, change orders and schedules including a calendar and a Gantt chart. We have been very impressed with the professionalism, knowledge and helpfulness of the design team. FYI, payment is broken into 6 parts due at various stages of the project. Look for a future review as we transition into construction.

Update at completion

The entire process from initial estimate to final completion was professional, thorough and positive. We started with a walk through with Joe to get an initial plan and initial estimate. This included a detail drawing as well as a 3D rendering. The next stage was working with Miranda (a real delight) to pick out materials, colors and finishes. At the meeting, she showed us a 3D rendering including the cabinetry and fixtures in the bathroom, the wall colors and the flooring. This really helped to visualize the project. Subsequent to this, we returned to the showroom and did a fairly major design change as well as several smaller changes. Miranda was very patient and responsive and the 3D imaging really helped. She provided us pricing for the options as we progressed so that we always had control over the budget and there were no surprises. Before construction we met with Brad (our project/construction manager). He was wonderful to work with and kept us fully informed of what to expect. In the construction phase we generally knew in advance when trades were coming and Brad continually checked with us and monitored all the work. The various trades people (some third party) were all conscientious, polite and respectful. They laid carpet pad from the entrance to the basement and to the guest bath that they used. They always announced themselves when arriving and when leaving for lunch or for the day. They kept the workspace clean and several times had a separate person come in to gather trash and clean the area. A very special call out to Hunter (general handyman) and Brandon (and all the painters) Brandon even went out and got a small sample of the wall paint to let us see the color (we had doubts but the sample alleviated them) and also advised us to use the matte vs eggshell finish because it would not show minor flaws or touch-ups as much (a good tip and saved us some money). Also a shout out to the final cleaning crew (Ashley's Construction Cleanup). They did an amazing job on the final cleaning. We highly recommend Basements Plus. They do an excellent job and are great to work with.

I had a lot of expectations for this project, and Finished Basements Plus delivered the project way above my expectations.

I chose Finished Basements Plus because they assured me they would handle a majority of the coordination, tracking of the needed items in the project, and communication through their calendar app and the project manager. That their years of experience made them the best for this job. However, that was not entirely the case—anything outside of the standard project plan required weeks of follow-up calls and repeated reminders just to ensure tasks were completed at all. I was also concerned with having contractors working on my house, but my project manager and salesperson assured me all contractors had worked with the company for years and were vetted, reliable, and approved by the company. The first team that came to work on the trim was in fact a new contracting team that had not done any work for Finished Basements Plus, were not monitored by anyone from the company who had experience and did a horrible job. The trim had to be ripped down and re-done. That contracting team also left garbage in my yard, the second time garbage was left at my house, and included trim nails.

Overall, I am very happy with the end product. The basement looks great and is exactly what the design team came up with but if I knew all the issues I was going to encounter, for the premium price that I paid, I don't know if I would recommend Finished Basements Plus.

You did not disappoint. However, the price is very very high as compared to an independent all-in-one contractor. Therefore, I would have a hard time recommending.

During our search for a company to finish our basement we found some with lower prices, but none were more professional in their approach to the project. That was the determining factor for our choice of Finished Basements Plus. We were not disappointed. Their professionalism was evident throughout the project. As the saying goes, "you get what you pay for."

Overall the company is very good and our basement turned out beautiful. With any renovation in your home you have to be aware of what is going on each step of the way. We had a wonderful project manager, but still found things that needed to be addressed. For the most part the company addressed our concerns.
