We are extremely pleased with our newly remodeled home. It is everything we had hoped it would be. The entire team was terrific to work with. This is not to say that there weren’t occasional glitches, but every time that occurred they were dealt with appropriately. I particularly appreciate two things: First, one of the main reasons we decided to go with the modular approach to renovation is that I did not want my garden, which I’ve been working on for several decades, damaged. The team was very respectful of my garden. Of course there has been some damage immediately around the house, but that was to be expected and it has been minimized. I’m sure it helps that the project manager himself loves his own garden. And second, a key element driving the design is that we have an adult autistic son living with us. The team was very understanding and respectfull of his needs, both in terms of design and of disruption to his life. And again, I imagine it helped that a key team member himself has an autistic child and, consequently, fully understands our son’s needs. We highly recommend Winn Design Build.

Our project was the construction of an "in-law" house that included first floor living, a loft, and a full basement. The house had to fit the design of the main house, which was built during the Civil War. Additionally, the city required that the two houses be connected (i.e. breezeway). We came to Winn Design & Build after having worked several months with an architect who wasn't getting our vision of what we wanted in a home. After meeting once with the Winn team, we knew we had found our designer and builder. The team took the time to listen to our vision and needs and were always receptive to our ideas. Once construction started, Winn had two employees who were on-site every day; nothing happened without them knowing about it. We also had weekly meetings with the team; these meetings were invaluable in clarifying details, communicating timelines, and answering questions. The designer spent hours helping us select flooring, lights, plumbing fixtures, countertops, and cabinets; she was also very helpful in finding the best prices for the selections we made. All of the subcontractors were professional and their work was high quality. The construction was completed within the time that we were told, and we finished within budget. Winn uses an online project management program which was an invaluable tool for keeping track of timelines, documents, change orders, selections, and budget. Bottom line, we highly recommend Winn Design & Build - they are nice people who are very professional, creative, and competent.

My wife and I took over six months vetting eight different builders but we always felt Winn Design would be our choice and our instincts were right and Michael Winn and his team delivered on all commitments. We now have a beautiful new kitchen, bath, bedroom addition and deck as well as upgrades in other areas with the job delivered to us two weeks earlier and right on the contract price that included several mutually agreed upon construction changes.

Very positive experience working with William Winn and his team on the replacement of siding and underlying sheathing on our house. This was a major project for us and William and his team listened to us, addressed our concerns and provided excellent communications during the project.As the project progressed we were presented an option to reduce some cost (this is the first time any contractor has done this) along with a thorough explanation of the option.During the siding and soffit demolition the Winn team discovered a problem with our roof. The plywood sheathing under the shingles was rotted in several places and the roof was buckling in couple of locations. Turns out there were leaks around the skylights and there were 3 layers of shingles overloading the roof. Poor work by previous contractors. We moved into our house about 6 months before the project started and as it turned out these problems were not found by the house inspector.The Winn team was able to quickly adjust their schedules, bring in a roofing team, replace the roof and then restart the siding project.Due to their workmanship and attention to detail our house looks like new.We interviewed 5 other contractors for this project and are quite pleased that we selected Winn. Our thanks to William, Dave Keys and Wilmer.

They were able to adjust their schedule to delay the siding install until the roof had been evaluated for replacement and work completed as needed.

Good quality work. The project took longer than anticipated. We started the process in April 2012 and there is still an outstanding issue with the shower door that needs to be corrected almost a year later. I will also report that your pricing is on the high end.

I had a damage claim to the whole exterior of my home. They worked with me through a two year resolution with the insurance company. Overall, I am very satisfied.

Before I started this project, I spent two years figuring out what I wanted. I had clear goals which I was able to articulate. Remodeling one's house is not much fun until it is over. Overall, I would say I was satisfied with Winn, not thrilled. They were good but not excellent; however, they have the potential to be excellent. They need to be more proactive on communicating issues as they arise and make sure the customer is aware of the consequences of choices. As a homeowner, I didn't understand the difference between dential moulding vs. dentil trim; I just knew I liked what I had and was disappointed with what I got. I also didn't realize how important it was to pick out my exterior lights and mounts before the siding work began and have had to incur additional out-of-pocket expenses. Finally, when something major goes wrong (as happened with us because the wrong color siding got ordered), they noticed it but waited for me to come home and flip out when I saw my house. They said they noticed it and would get it painted at their cost - in the end it worked out but they should have actively communicated. Otherwise, I have to say that the quality of their workmanship is high and all the people are very courteous and patient. They are also good about returning phone calls promptly.

It was very pleasant and professional experience done in a very timely manner with quality materials and workmanship. We couldn't have bee more pleased with our experience with Winn Design & Remodeling.
