Will change my mind when you replace the bad screen door
Wrong windows installed. Small kitchen window has 4 strips ofUNPAINTED material nailed to frame. Can’t get anyone to acknowledge problems. My storm door is letting in rain water which is laying on wooden stoop which I’m afraid will start rotting eventually. Also rain is coming in on door hardware and finish. Honestly I would never never recommend U niversal window co. To anyone. I feel bad I spent so much money with terrible results so far. I m sorry to say this but I hope everyone reads this because truly it’s almost unbelievable.
Nice fitting windows look great one day installation
Very prompt and efficient.
Messed up billing, cracked window seals that took over a year to get replaced/installed, the caulking was a mess
The windows are beautiful and done in a timely manner. After being ordered it only took 4 weeks to make them. The whole process from start to finish went so smoothly. The salesman was knowledgeable, the installers couldn't of been better, and there's a lifetime warranty. We would highly recommend this company and these windows to anyone needing new windows.
The entire process from beginning to end ran smoothly without a glitche. The salesman, the scheduler, and the installers were very professional. I would recommend Universal Windows Direct of Pittsburgh to my family and friends.
i would not recommend them
Never. Terrible company to deal with.
I didn’t appreciate the price game in the beginning. First quote was approx 21,000 then 17,000, then 11,000 to finally end at about 9,500. That’s ridiculous and your salesman should be ashamed. I could totally see elderly and or uninformed people agreeing to that price.
When there was an issue and I consulted my contract and called the same day the window was installed, it took weeks to resolve with no one returning calls or getting me answers as promised.
The whole installation process was so smooth and easy. The guys had the entire job completed faster than I expected.
Mike was very professional on time excellent service. Would recommend him to anyone to have him do their installation
I have been signing their workman ship to everyone i come in contact with.
I found the entire experience from start to finish easy to deal with.
I think your product is good and therefore would recommend it. After the entire process was complete I would tell my friend to watch out for the following:
Accuracy of the order as placed by the sales person - My order required several change orders as the sales person did not enter it correctly. This was concerning to me but I made it through it. It may concern you as I only had 7 windows and one door so the order was not that complicated. For instance, all windows had full screens. The order came out that only a few had full screens and the rest were half screens. I just wonder how that got messed up and what would have happened if it had not been caught.
My sales person and I had a lengthy conversation about a pet type screen door or not. I decided NO pet screen, just the regular type as I did not want to pay the extra for the pet screen. The pet screen was ordered and had to be a change order to fix. But after this issue, I really became concerned about what I might receive and what future problems there might be.
Communication from the initial sales person and the production department - there was a solid 8 weeks of silence. I was told that it would take time to "make the windows"but I did expect some type of update. When I contacted my sales person, as this was the only contact I had at the time, he basically said his part of this is done, you will have to wait for production to contact you. Several more weeks went by and finally production called and said the windows were coming in in several weeks. Then a scheduler called and made an appointment.
Inconvenience of Scheduling and not exactly forthcoming on size in install team. The scheduling person pretty much insisted on scheduling a Saturday. I was not happy with this and questioned the scheduler. He assured me that they had a "large" team and the installation would only take a few hours. The start time was between 12 and 2pm. A team of two showed up at 1:30 with a teenage helper. Of the three, only one spoke english and he was mostly outside so communication was an issue. These people did not finish until 7:45 that evening. Blew my whole Saturday. I guess the scheduling person just told me what I wanted to hear regardless of the truth.
Payment issues - When the crew was finished installing they needed payment. They told me they could not take a credit card and I "had to pay by check" or I could give them my credit card info and they would give it to someone else and they would run my card. Well, I had previously discussed payment with my sales person and he assured my that it would be no problem and that I could pay for all phases of the process with a credit card. I refused to pay the installers and they left. I told them to have someone call me on Monday. That happened and I did pay, but not in full as there were parts broken and a door that I could not open except for using two hands full force. The door was not installed correctly but I was told "its new".
Broken Parts and Not working parts - The door handle I ordered was the antique brass color. The installers must have asked me 5 times what color I ordered as they had never seen this darker color before. This did not inspire confidence on my part. The installers discovered that the handle was broken right out of the box. They glued it together to last until a new one could be ordered. Then they let me know that it would take A MONTH to get a new handle. What a way to run a business, I don't know of many businesses these days where the lead time for something so damn simple is a month. And I was encouraged to get something different because you know, "if I only did what other people do and order the white handle, I could have it on Monday". Screw that, you gave me a choice and I made it and you should honor it and applaud taking my money instead of belittling me and making fun, essentially, of my choices.
When I was called about 3 weeks later to schedule the new part install and adjustment of the door I was asked to pay in full. I refused as the job was not complete and said I would gladly pay after the repair person had completed the task. But you insisted on some amount of payment or you would not come out and do the repairs. What a way to blackmail your customers. I did not appreciate having my arm twisted. What did you think, I would pay the last $1500 out of an $11K total. You are insane. I paid $500 just to get a service you owed me. I inquired as to ability of the repair person to take a credit card after the repair was complete and was assured that this would not be a problem.
New part and Repair - this was the only bright spot of this entire process. My repair tech was excellent. It was quite apparent he had many years of experience, The moment he laid eyes on my door he said "you had the XXXXXX installers didn't you?" I said yes. He said he was so damn tired of cleaning up their messes. The new handle was installed without any extraneous comments from the tech and he adjusted to door. It took him almost an hour to adjust the door and the installers had not done any adjustments. It was amazing that the door could be opened at all. Now it is perfect and I can open it with one finger as it should be. The first time I used the screen door after struggling to get the glass door open,. the screen fell off completely. The repair tech reinstalled the screen also. Now all works as it should.
Payment AGAIN - The repair person could not take a credit card. Some one called me later in the day to take a card.
Wow, what an adventure. Thanks for asking,.
We decided on purchasing these windows because we were sold on the superior quality and excellent customer service. When the pivot pins snapped in half, I started questioning the quality. Then when the rep insulted my intelligence by telling me i should start by watching a video of how to reinstall the sash and if that didn’t work I should call back, it left a bad taste in my mouth for the customer service. Up until this issue we were thrilled with the windows themselves. Now I don’t know if I’d be comfortable recommending to anyone. Paul (?), the service tech was the redeeming quality. He was excellent and kept me from forming a completely bad opinion of the company. Good hire.
The job was completed quickly and professionally.
They were very quick and efficient in removing the old windows and installing the new ones which were a totally different style.
Their measurements were right on and 4 large sliders with 2 half rounds were installed by 2:00PM and they removed the old windows with any mess that had been made. Very pleased.
While I like the windows they are not well fit and some of ours our actually loose fitting and have started to leak. They are not properly sealed around the exterior between the home and the window.
I was overall pleased. However the one thing that keeps me from making recommendations is that we were told 1 day install and planned accordingly. The installer were not done and it took 2 days, with us needing to take more time off of work unexpectedly. I indicated this on my survey and never even got a call or apology. My time is as valuable as theirs.
I would recommend and have recommended Universal Windows to family and friends
Some minor issues, but overall good product
Based on the entire experience I would /will recommend them to friends and neighbors
I can answer this questions in detail once the replacement windows are installed the end of August.
