Well they are like family that’s why.
I enjoy the programs for my age group. There are a decent amount of choices for exercising that I enjoy. These choices help keep me moving which is good to help me with my medical issues. But the big plus is the helpful and friendly staff and Y members I have met and now have truly friendly YMCA friends.
The group fitness room MP1 is always dirty, equipment is in very, very poor condition, dumbbell's are showing metal with coating ripped off and never enough dumbbells for the amount of people that show to class; the weighted bars are disgusting with hair stuck to the deteriorating tape; the coating on weight plates for the bars are peeling off, plates stick together from not being cleaned; Wall mirror is broke and has been taped to keep it together. It’s a shame the condition of that room and with the amount of classes and people in and out of that room it should be top notch. I have been to many facilities and Hernando County group fitness room is the worst I have seen. Members have been lied to repeatedly…..since July 2024, we have been told new weights have been ordered.
I often recommend the Y to my friends and family. I especially encourage them to try the Y for swim lessons for children.
The pool needs better management. The pool constantly has algae, the walls aren’t wiped daily like they used to be. The pvc ladder is always yellow, green and dirty. We as handicapped people have asked for more benches and or a table with umbrella brought to the other end of the pool. The tables are too far to walk and in the summer it’s inundated with small children using the splash pad. Most people who use the pool have physical issues and we feel we are not listened to.
I like using the egym
I don't feel a real connection at the YMCA with others. Your busy with your workout and might talk to some people but no real connection. I feel the same way with the staff. There's only one personnel trainer that I have worked with that really ever connects to the people in the gym I feel and that's Kristel lopez. There's one trainer ( he has long hair and keeps it in a ponytail) sits behind a desk and is on his phone a lot and never says hi but other trainer will say hi. I asked two different trainers to show me how to use one of the machines and they didn't even know the name of the machine. They just called it a jogger. They showed me the are minimum like how to get the jogger going and pushing a button. That's about the extent of showing the machine to me.
it is relaxing & interesting fun getting me out of the house excersicing & meeting enjoyable people
I have been a member for many, many years. The staff has been very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.
The Y is okay! They do have communication issues with their members. Because at times in regards to the pool it's open when I call and closed a upon my arrival. Complete waste of my time, gas and effort to go workout.
I like the different class and amenities they offer.
Need more spaces for classes! We pay monthly just for the Silver Sneakers classes, but it is hard to get in to them.
Put in a hot tub for the winter months.
Nice updates done to the facility
Great Staff - new equipment - great classes and instructors
I'm always uncomfortable with the app check in. The staff watches like im somebody trying to sneak in. The same with asking to borrow a basketball, it's like I am going to steal it. The outdoor basketball needs a small fence so the ball doesn't roll into the sand pit. This YMCA definitely not the value as the Clearwater facility. The fitness room not large enough to accommodate membership
Great new gym equipment!
The staff was very welcoming and always smiling. You could tell they enjoy their job.
Need to move the coffee, puzzle table and sitting area to different area, a “cool down area”
Friendly employees - always ready to help. Great equipment
Need to pay more attention to the Pickleball courts. It was great that you put the black back drop back up, but did not put it all the way across the courts. It is not being maintained by your crew. Needs to be part of the up keep of the grounds. Courts are not swept. Do the gym members need to sweep the floors or the pool users need to clean the pool? No, so way do the pickleball player have to constantly maintain the courts.
I do not like how the staff does not intervene to ask the members to stop tying up the machines when the member is just sitting the machine scrolling on the phone. I could easily do my reps during the time the member is just sitting not working out, just scrolling.
You have everything the other fitness centers have and more
I joined the Y to takes the classes but Classes are way too full and are overfilled!
Sports through the Y are close in price to local sports teams, but severely lacking. We have done 3-4 different sports through the Y, all different age groups, and not one sports team has been organized or beneficial to our kids sports experience. In fact, I often do not recommend the sports team on social media. I’m honest about our experience and suggest that families spend their money with a different organization in Hernando.
