Talking to Charlie Crippen about a new deck was refreshing. Not your typical salesman. You don't get a low base price, then have to add on all the pieces you want. Charlie tells you what the total price will be and what it includes so there are no surprises at the end. We were comfortable doing business with him. The crew came out every day ready to work and, except for a lunch break, worked steadily until quitting time (or, for us, until the rain came almost every afternoon!). The whole process was pretty painless and the results are solid and beautiful.

They really worked on them creatively. Some materials were not accessible; they even used a 3D printer. They made it happen. They allowed for changes. For example, I wanted the rail to accommodate string lights. They had to come up with extra-tall posts for this. They were able to customize and meet my request. They served the customer and the budget. The posts were double the height and worked with the rail system. It looks like it came straight out of the factory.

My wife and I interviewed several highly-qualified deck contractors – and unquestionably chose the best in Charlie and Crippen Woodworks. Our reasons were as follows:
1. Background in fine interior carpentry. We knew we were getting a skilled contractor.
2. Large enough to have a sophisticated operation / multiple crews, but small enough to ensure the attention of the owner
3. During the initial interview, Charlie highlighted a water/soil-grading issue that every other contractor missed. Small details matter!
4. Entire staff were employees, not independent subs – and all were long-time employees. Strong internal culture of quality. Again, small details matter.
5. Crew were professional, polite, and extremely hard-working. Staff cleaned up work area at the close of every day. Everybody was accountable.
6. Competitive and fair pricing.
7. Charlie was always accessible and on job site frequently. Charlie is also well connected – we had to replace a retaining wall that was failing – Charlie pulled strings to have this fixed quickly and kept project on track.
8. Everyone, from Charlie on down, were good people…in a way, family oriented & super friendly.

Remarks - Crippen Woodworks did an outstanding job helping to design and construct a screened in porch. Our project was complicated with a gas, stone fireplace, interior folding door, heater, and automatic plastic screens that go over the screens. Their workers were dependable and responsible, and they were responsive to questions and feedback. Excellent management and communication.

Remarks - Charlie and his team provided a stunning deck off the back of our home. Charlie provided numerous design ideas for the deck that we implemented - and we were glad that we did. Charlie and his team also adapted to our changing requests during the midst of the project. We highly recommend Charlie and his team!
