The Collier Construction website says, “We stand behind our work... Your home is your most important investment, and we’re committed to getting it right… and if there’s a problem, we’ll handle it.” Four years ago I purchased a home built by Collier Construction. It was touted as a home that was “Better Built certified, and great care was taken in site stewardship and sustainable construction.” There was no evidence of major construction defects until a yellow stain appeared on one of the windowsills a few weeks ago. The wall was cut open exposing a huge amount of rot, wet insulation and black mouldy plywood. And then it became clear that the problem was not confined to a single area, that mould, rot and decay have been growing inside the walls for years, hidden by the thick sheetrock that was used for the walls. I contacted the window rep who recalled that, when the house was built, Collier’s construction crew had improperly installed the windows. They hadn’t been inset as they should have, hadn’t been sealed correctly, sashes had to be replaced, some were crooked, flashing was missing. As the damage throughout the house was autopsied, other faulty construction issues were revealed. Wires were cut too short exposing bare wires inside the wall, studs were spaced 24” apart instead of 16”. When I called Collier Construction to come and inspect the damage, the claims rep who I spoke to said he’d put it on the schedule but then called me back to tell me “the boss said no.” The Collier Construction mission statement reads: “We believe that the economic health and well being (sic) of the homeowner, the community and the environment are essential to the quality of every project. This belief shapes our philosophy and our mission, our methods and our goals, and the relationships we build throughout every project.” See the pictures posted on Google/Yelp of rotted, crumbling studs and black mould riddled throughout the walls of this Collier Construction built home and decide for yourself.

I was able to move into my house earlier than expected which was fantastic! Very helpful and answered emails/phone calls in a relatively quick manner (understandable considering the work load at the moment). I appreciate the move in punch list, the fact that there is a 60 day punch list and an 11 month checklist as well!

Update: Since I moved in there has been 0 work done on the punchlists I've created. We are now 2 months after my move in date and there are still issues from when I moved in. Before more and more houses are built, you should ensure the houses already built are in good condition and stop stretching yourself so thin you cannot guarantee satisfaction

Still awaiting the one year warranty walk through/repairs. Happy with some of the design/construction of the house, unhappy with other parts. Seem to have been the house under construction as the subcontractors were experiencing a lot of turnover. Got that excuse from two subcontractors on two entirely different issues.

The whole process of building our new home was seamless. From the first meeting with the team to the move in date (two weeks ahead of the projected completion date) everything (and I mean everything) went smoothly. Our home is more beautiful than imagined and the quality of materials and workmanship is outstanding. The designer was spot on as far as suggested finishes and the project supervisor gave us the utmost respect and had a calm and courteous demeanor. Couldn't be more pleased!
