What are the best energy efficient blinds or window treatments for very large windows? I have a very large window and need a large blind or some type of window treatment. I'd like some privacy, but would like the option of being able to change it (i.e. I don't want to just cover it up). I've attached a photo of the window.

Can a raised entry foyer be lowered? Just purchased a home, the front door entrance foyer is raised approx between 2"-3" and is about 9 1/2' in length, it is a tile covered concrete slab. The 2"-3" is a step down into the living room, the den and the hallway to the bedrooms. We are sure to fall or break a toe on the darn thing...missing the step up. Any suggestions?

The builder did not build our home as we had ordered, citing a design change after contract was signed. What recourse do we have? We had requested a built in shower seat in the master bathroom shower. At some point, during the build phase, the design for our home was changed and this feature was eliminated. We did not catch the lack of seat until our walkthrough, and now the builder is refusing to do anything about it. What recourse do we have?

We have a floating home with a separate shed on an adjacent float. What is required to run wire from the main house (separate circuit) to the shed? The conduit must be able to flex somewhat because the two floats will move independently (up to 4 inches). The conduit won't ever be in the water, but will go under both decks and sit 1' above water.

Are trees and shrubs from home centers generally a good investment or should you go to a nursery?
May 16, 2014

I would recommend a nursery that sells locally grow products. You have a much better chance of it surviving if it's grown in local conditions & soil. Who knows where that big boxes got that last train load of plants from!

What's the most common challenge you run into with landscaping projects that most homeowners don't anticipate? And what could homeowners do to be better prepared for this, or even avoid it altogether?

When it comes to pool renovations, what improvements would you choose? I just purchased a home with an inground vinyl pool in the backyard. The liner will need replacing in the next year or so, should we consider switching to a concrete pool instead? Having also read about the benefits of a salt water pool system, should we also consider this change? What would be involved and what sort of costs (long or short term) could we be looking at if we switched?

I have a large property, while there are trees that cover my house (and roof) I was wondering if solar panels made sense? Even if they weren't directly on roof?
