Communicative, fast, quality work.
I had Stalcup do my Dad's roof earlier in the year...no problem. I selected them to do my home but they sent a sub-contractor who wasn't professional in a few different ways. The sub took 8 days to replace the roof...day 9 they picked up their extra gear...they parked their very large trailer in our 3-car driveway so that we could only park one car overnights in our driveway...that is, they parked taking up two spots in our driveway and refused to adjust it when requested. Also, exaggerated the number of plywood sheets they installed as well as the number of linear feet of replaced fascia board (69' vs 33'). They didn't bring a porta potty so we are not sure where they relieved themselves throughout the 8 days. They used too long nails for existing plywood as seen when looking up to the overhangs...which looked somewhat butchered and shredded in many places. They broke a bird-block screen when removing an sheet of plywood. Because they took a long time to do the roof, they were going to ignore replacing some fascia that was clearly rotted and clearly needed replacing. Lastly, they left two rows of shingles on the front of the house that were elevated and was noticeable when viewing the roof. Ultimately, most of these problems were resolved over time, with the involvement of the Stalcup salesman, and especially the involvement of Jay, the Stalcup owner. So while I would recommend the Stalcup crew, like on my Dad's house, I would have paid more if I had known I was getting a second-rate sub-contractor on my own home. Highly recommend Stalcup drop that sub altogether.
We were customers for many years and happy with the company. Over the years they did repairs and installed 4 skylights. This time I had them install a new roof. There were a few problems as described below. Being a long-time customer, I would still recommend, as in all Stalcup seems to be a good company to deal with.
Looks great and met my expectations.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
My real estate/contractor friends recommended we get a quote from Stalcup after learning how much the first company quoted us. Stalcup was using the exact same Owens Corning roofing system and came in at about 35% less. Vikk was communicative and helpful, and Daniel, the head of the crew that did the roof was very friendly and professional. And the crew that did the gutters was also great and were able to replace some rotten wood to the gutters attached properly.
HAPPY WITH OUR CHOICE
Stalcup did some work for us several years ago and we were amazed at their willingness to respond to our emergency in such a quick fashion.
They just completed re-roofing our home and we are happy to say that their dedication to excellence has not changed. My son is a former roofing foreman and worked for several large roofing companies. Stalcup gets a thumbs up from him so I would say that says quite a lot.
From our initial estimate through completion Jay was hands on. He was the only estimator that actually went up into our attic during his estimate review. His estimate was detailed and each phase was detailed and well itemized. We asked for some extra things that are not usually included in his scope of work and he was more than willing to oblige those requests. We replaced our Cedar Shake roof with composite and from strip down to completed roof and clean up, it only took them two days. The crew arrived at daylight and worked until it was dark. They are respectful, hard working, focused, efficient, and skilled at what they do.
Jay takes personal ownership over the quality of work that his crews perform. He is patient, kind, and responsive. If something isn't right, he will address it personally to insure that desired outcomes are achieved.
