Friendly staff, good selection of classes, recovery center.
I like the equipment available and the layout and cleanliness of the facilities.
What's not to love! Fun, fitness, friends!!
Classes are fun! Friendly staff. Great atmosphere. Massage table is a nice finish to a workout
The front desk staff are welcoming. It feels laid back, but still clean and taken care of - that can be a hard balance to achieve sometimes.
I’ve been participating in a small group class with Janice Rosen as our trainer, and it’s been an amazing experience. Her humor and enthusiasm keep me motivated, and her depth of knowledge keeps us all safe as we learn how to use the TRX equipment.
Plum Street staff are friendly and helpful, the facility has everything I need and I always feel comfortable there.
The equipment is dated so I find myself going to the Briggs location which is out of the way.
Add the back and ab machines. Add a pool.
Machines are always broken. Buy new and stop trying fix the old ones.
I love the Les Mills classes that are provided (Body Attack, Body Pump, Body Step) and the dance fitness classes. The group fitness instructors are awesome! The group fitness room could use some fresh paint and motivation words. The equipment is good. Replace the rubber grips on the bottom of some of the steps for step aerobics, so they don't slide on the floor. I appreciate the showers and sauna, as well as the new massage and ice/heat chairs. If possible, more space in the sauna would be amazing. More parking options would be great. I wish you could purchases the parking lot nearby, so we don't have to pay separately to park there when the YMCA lot is full. I don't like parking along the street in the dark, and walking to/from my vehicle alone. I love the app for the class schedule and my barcode.
I recommend it all the time and dragged in a new customer in 2025.
Ever since my membership has been activated again you have an employee who has made it their mission to discontinue my membership.
I walk on eggshells every month because my due date is on the 1st and my disability doesn't get deposited till the 3rd.
I've done nothing to this individual but he is intent on holding a past delinquency against me despite the fact that I'm paying all that I owe.
The staff are just excellent at both Ys, Plum and Briggs. I absolutely recommend the YMCA. It is an important tool in my mental health.
The cryo massage lounge
Plum Street is fine but Briggs has become a mess. Briggs became mire crowded in November but has really maxed out in January. Parking is really tough in the mornings, particularly around 8:30 -10am. Between pickleball, pool classes, multi-purpose room classes, and New Years resolution folks in the weight room, Briggs Y is bursting at the seams. Seniors, disabled, mothers with children are circling the lot and parking down the street and all the way down to the circle. People arriving for 9am stuff need to park before the 8am folks depart the lot. In the past, folks have suggested staggering classes (for instance 8am then 9:15 or 9:30) to allow people to exit so the later folks can enter. The Y's never done that, but current crowding may require re-thinking your schedule. I've been coming to Briggs since it opened (before the weight room and second floor were added) and downtown for years before that (42 years total), but I don't think I've ever seen this extent of crowding.
Update the equipment.
Good equipment, staff and atmosphere.
I love the hydro massage chair! I live closer to Briggs so I use that facility 4 times a week for classes in tai chi and yoga. I have made friends at Briggs, but not at Plum as I am not there for classes.
Replace Friday senior fitness class with one similar to previous class taught by Marion
Friendly staff. Decent amount of equipment & good layout.
The front desk staff are very friendly, every time I see them. The facility is very clean, I love the open floor layout, the sauna and hydromassage equipment.
parking is often unavailable, evening yoga classes are inconsistent (Wednesday night was cancelled for several months)
Classses
It's not likely that anyone will ask me or a recommendation. If someone does I'll tell them I'm a member of the Plum Street Y and that it works for me.
This is a fantastic place, easy to navigate, nice showers, great personnel. The parking situation is horrendous, and the reason for 8 stars instead of 10 in my review.
I just recommended the Y to my neighbors (they joined) and now we are planning which classes to go to. I LOVE the Y!!!
Super friendly staff and clean safe place to workout
Really need to add more free parking
The parking, especially on Monday is a nightmare.
Great location, friendly staff, good price
Equipment needs improvement
The excellent class instructors (especially Beth!), the friendly front desk staff, and the massage chairs!
I enjoy the Y's focus on community and social justice. I like that at Plum Street, they listened to our requests and put in a 3rd squat rack (yay!). However, I am still disappointed with the choice to take away the cycling studio and install several very expensive and not scientifically vetted 'massage chairs.' That money could have been used for basic things like replacing broken equipment (bikes at Briggs are constantly in need of repair for example), putting more fans in the upstairs cardio studio at Plum (which I have asked for many many times), or hiring more cleaning staff (the floors are always dirty). It also means that I must now travel to Briggs for my cycling class, which about doubles the travel time for me and makes it difficult to get to class on time after work. Also, having cycling in the multipurpose room at Briggs means that the class must compete against many other classes for time slots. With the dedicated cycling studio, we could have added classes anytime. One other thing I'd like to see at Plum is a return to free weights that increase in 2.5 lb intervals. When the weights were replaced recently, many of those went away. We now have weights that increase by 2.5 lb intervals up to about 20 lb, but over 20 lb they increase by 5 lb intervals. Not very many of us are making 5 lb gains. The 2.5 lb interval increase weights were much better overall. I also want staff to consider purchasing weights that are built for smaller hands. I am a woman and I can lift A LOT of weight, but my hands are quite small, meaning that if a weight has a large diameter handle, my grip strength is usually the limiting factor instead of my actual leg (or whatever) muscle strength. I'm not talking about buying tiny pink weights "for women" but rather considering inclusivity in general next time you replace the free weights. Thanks!
The facility is * easy to find and easy for Olympians to get to *well stocked with good equipment *large and airy * clean and staff at the counter are super helpful and friendly
Attentive staff, clean facility, bright lighting, equipment in good repair.
convenient location, good availability of machines
The front desk person wouldn't let me work out until I answered all her questions on my account. She then told me that I have to sign a new waiver as a new member ( I have been a member for 25 years). Yet Briggs just let's me sign in and workout? I'm not signing anything else without explanation. And I don't appreciate having been asked all my personal details in such a public space!
Love the open floor plan, great equipment, love the boxing bag and sauna in men's room
Classes are great!
Plum St needs new weight machines and especially at least one abdominal machine. Henderson got new machines 2 times in the last few years.
They accommodate the needs of seniors as well as younger adults and kids. As a senior, I appreciate the respect and friendliness of the staff. There are many appropriate class offerings. The facility is clean, equipment is maintained, and the atmosphere is inviting.
Plum St Y is awesome! The staff and trainers are amazing. I enjoy lifting free weights, the TRX, rowing and using other equipment. I’ve taken some classes and they’re great. Love the sauna and the hydromassage chair.
I attended Beths senior strength and stretch class
Parking at the Plum Street location is terrible. Handing out parking passes does no good if there is no one to enforce it.
I appreciate the y culture and services and The plum street y is at a great location.
Nothing specific. I generally don't recommend things to people.
Different vibe than Briggs, which is more family-oriented. Good variety of equipment and machines. Some of the equipment needs better maintenance and and a few more spray bottles and garbage can for wiping down equipment would be nice.
Friendly staff. Lots of equipment available for use. Clean facilities. Love the hydrotherapy chairs.
I like my fitness instructor who always makes us feel welcome.
