They were great through the sales/design process and worked with us to design a system that meets our needs. The installation team was knowledgeable, respectful, and coordinated well among each other. I appreciated that everyone was an employee of Imagine Energy. They were very responsive throughout. We're happy with the end results and would not hesitate to recommend them!
Knowledgeable and friendly crew. I like the fact that Imagine Energy has been in business for a long time.
We worked well together, and we felt pleased with the finished installation. We are still in the process of finalizing some of the details of using the system, in particular, the programming of it to go off grid and how to manage that.
Work was done on time and well.
As nearly as I can tell, not being an expert and not having gone up on the roof, they ultimately did a good job. But given their communication issues and the delays, I would have a tough time recommending them.
System
This project took MUCH longer than I expected, and I don't think Imagine Energy gave me the information to realize nothing at all would happen for several months. One of the staffers said she told me, but I don't think that's the kind of thing I would just forget. They should consider providing project status and projections more frequently. At the end of the project, there were repeated notices from PGE indicating problems. Ideally I would heard of these from Imagine Energy.
Very poor project management overall. There wasn't a realistic estimate on how long the project will take. It took more than 10 weeks to complete the project with several avoidable delays. Meagre communication. Phone calls were almost never picked up. Responses would often take more than a day. Overall, it was a very disappointing experience.
Delay after delay, very poor communication, inadequate pre-planning and no on-site coordinator. Work crews inexperienced for our job and without appropriate tools. Our system is still not fully functional (storage battery issue). Imagine Energy seems to be understaffed for the existing customer workload.
Imagine Energy was responsive and delivered a good quality product.
Imagine Energy was one of the few installers in the area able to work on a 3 story townhouse where other installers were reluctant to touch it due to the ladder and PPE that would be required. They used drone footage to accurately map my roof and rented a lift to actually perform the install since ladders wouldn't work for such a tall roof.
It has taken months to complete a project that was estimated to take a couple of months. They were at times unresponsive to email. At times they showed up to do work without letting us know they were coming, after weeks of us trying to contact them to find out some status. They didn't have equipment when they said they would. They took a long time to set up the electric panel and it was not correctly marked. Everything seems to work at the moment but we are very disappointed in their communication, scheduling, commitment, and work.
They ghosted me for nearly a year.
A four to six month project took more than 16 months. Add COVID in, a bad winter and a hot summer would increase the project length, but 16+ months is unacceptable.
After getting estimates and meeting with a number of different solar contractors, I chose Imagine Energy based on their experience and the build plan and contract that they provided to me. I consider my house to be a pretty complex build, with multiple disconnected buildings and pretty complex roof layout.
Overall, now that the work has been completed, I am happy with the outcome. I believe the work was conducted professionally and the aesthetic result is about as good as I could have hoped.
My biggest complaint with the company is that they did not have a good process for tracking and responding to communications about the build, schedule, checkpoints in the work, etc. After signing the contract it was >1 year for me to have a completed product. I should say that I knew work wouldn't begin for about 6 months after contract, but at the same time I think that some of the delays after work started could have been better anticipated and communicated. We did have some grid upgrades that were needed by the power company as well, which caused about a month of delay. Near the end of the project the company seemed to have hired some new staff and were doing a better job communicating with me about work timing and scope. The last few steps of the process were completed fairly quickly.
One crucial element of all of this was that the company did adhere to the agreed-upon cost. Despite the delays there were no cost overruns that were passed on to me as the customer despite going through a period of economic instability and inflation since the original contract was signed. I appreciated that aspect greatly since it was already an expensive project for my family.
While the sales people and various installers were competent and helpful, the overall experience with the company was difficult and very slow. The project was completed 6 moths behind schedule and communication was inconsistent and mostly about when payment would be sent rather than any updates about the project. I am pleased with the end result, but would hesitate to recommend the company based on my experiences.
Initial interactions with our sales/contract person was good and continuing communication with her was good. Imagine assigned us a project coordinator who left the company (don't know why) and we were not notified or given a different project coordinator. Communication with the company owner was sporadic and short notice. Initial installation of racking had many anchors that missed the roof rafters. Subsequent crew fixed all those and finished the racking. Waited almost a month for panel installation - granted they may be in high demand these days. Installation of panels and connection of inverter and electrical was okay. It has been over 7 weeks since project completion and we have not received close-out documentation or warranty information. I know that staffing is a problem in general in the construction industry these days, but they need some good project coordinators to work with their clients.
Imagine Energy did not evaluate the suitability of my roof for solar before installing racking and other components. They initially refused when I asked them to do it. I insisted that they come and they did a cursory look without taking any measurements. They submitted plans for permitting that were not accurate to the structure of my house. They installed the inverter, ATS, battery, racking and wiring before discovering that my roof structure did not meet code requirements to hold the panels. Shortly after that they stopped responding to my emails and calls until after filed a CCB complaint and hired a lawyer to threaten them. Their contract and warranty terms absolve them of any responsibility for completing a project or correcting errors they make.
Imagine Energy provided us with the best sales experience and the best array design for our home of all the contractors we interviewed. However, their communication on the installation schedule was very problematic; we had numerous proposed installation dates that were missed. Communication on the schedule and reasons for delay were very problematic. We waited nearly a year for the installation with no clear idea about when the installation would occur. We planned for the federal tax credit in 2022 with our accountants but the installation did not occur we were exposed to more tax than we had planned for. Once the installation commenced, the work was excellent and the panels work very well now.
Working with Imagine Energy was like dealing with a gifted child. When they focused, the work got done and was well done. But their followthough, followup, and attention to my job was nearly non-existent.
Sales, and install teams were great.bprojext management team was terrible. Zero communication from them and I had to reach out for updates for scheduling and where the project was.
There were multiple delays and no shows after setting the schedule, never with any heads up or explanation. There were numerous miscommunications both with me and between teams at Imagine. Project was left in an incomplete state for months. Ultimately it was completed as spec'd and is working well.
Now that the project is functioning, I am surprised to see that the array is delivering MORE than predicted; so often the sales' talk is over-optimistic; but not so in this case! Can anyone ask for more?
I have concerns about the management of the company.
