Do not go with this general contractor! This build was a nightmare to say the least! From lack of communication to threatening to put a lien on our house because we wouldn't release the last $2000 because of items not being finished and items removed from the house-RUN!! I did more of the GC work because we couldn't rely on Jesse to plan anything. In 9 weeks the finishing guy worked 80 hrs total and Jesse was ok with that because he couldn't get another finisher to work for him. We never received itemized bills or warranty information that we requested from his lawyer. The list goes on and on. We have 6 pages of documentation of issues and many, many pictures of issues/poor work. RUN!!!
The plumber, HVAC and electrician were great to work with and we did enjoy that part of the build.
I really appreciate the outstanding quality of the construction. Jesse and Chris were very eager to please. Building is stressful but Jesse and Chris made it fun and exciting. I like the extras that Jesse suggested—porch and flower boxes.
Poor communication or lack of. I understand that everyone is busy, but there was a lack of communication on when work would be done. There was an issue with a hole in my tub & I wasn't told about that. I found it on my own & was really angry. I mentioned it to my builder & he said that he knew of that crack. Yes, there was a small crack on the side, but was not notified of the hole. I went to my home quiet often, talked with the contractors that were working on my home. When something was needed like getting different flooring, countertops, backsplash & the stone for my home, I got it done & let my builder know. I am a firm believer that you treat people like you want to be treated. My home still has some things that need to be done. I moved in September 10th. I have to keep after my builder to get the list of items done & complete.
I do understand that everyone is busy with what they do, but communication would be very helpful.
Quote Match - The final price matched the original quote 100%.
Contact - A couple of friends I know had them built. I was impressed and thought I would seek them out.
Differentiating Factors - They were there when they said they would be and were on time like they promised. Other builders are really scattered.
Areas of Improvement - There's nothing he could improve upon. He was always there and called whenever I had a question. He was very good.
Additional Comments - They were friendly and courteous. They did everything they said they were going to do in a timely manner. What they said, they got done.
Wausau Homes' quality is very good.
Contact - A good friend and neighbor about ten years recommended Wausau Homes to us.
Differentiating Factors - The ability to build faster than the regular builders set Wausau's builders apart from others.
I would never, ever recommend Wausau homes to anyone. Our house was delayed by 8-10 months beyond the promised date, which was important because we were building the property largely for our parents, and my dad has terminal cancer, all of which our builder knew. Because of the delay, we lost a whole precious summer with my dad. I will never forgive him for his and if I never seem again it will be too soon.
Additionally, our builder was largely absent and unprofessional. He even told us one night to not bother us because he was drunk, and in November he threatened what turned out to be illegal action against us because he was "mad." We had to get a lawyer involved. It was absolutely the worst experience of my life and if I could take it back I would, and I would absolutely choose another builder.
