At first I wasn't going to leave a review. But after people commenting on the work I think it's important for other potential customers to be informed of experiences others have had. In Nov. of 2019 my dad hired Pat Flynn to do his backporch deck. (Attached deck with roof) I didn't like the contract because it says there's no warranty, only on their work. I said this to Pat and he said, well, I prefer you just call me for problems. The issue I had was if the parts used are not installed right, according to manufacturer's instructions, Top Decks not held responsible. Which is exactly what happened. The guys he had doing the job not only left behind all the mess, as in the bricks torn out, that per contract, they were supposed to take away. But they did such a lazy, half ass job that it was dangerous. I learned that Pat did not bother to get a building permit. When I asked Pat, can I ask why you didn't apply for the permit? Pat replied, "I don't have a good answer for you, laziness I guess." No it's because my dads 76 years old and you thought he wouldn't notice cause he's elderly. The building commissioner let a lot of things slide for him. Ignored the dangers and didn't fine Pat for not applying for a permit till after it was finished. They knew each other and Pat's done work for him so this didn't surprise me. The commissioner didn't get a list of his materials used to verify if it was done right. He just said, "by Belleville standards one screw is ok. Would it be nice for more? Sure." But when I looked up the manufacter's website and wrote them myself, with the pics of Top Deck's finished work, I got a response that it's not installed properly. In fact it's not safe. The deck was sloped. The commissioner tried to tell me it's leaning so rain water can pour off. He did, however, make Pat install the railing up to code. Pat was very angry at me. He said he'd return in about 3 weeks cause he's got to order the lumber, and, "because of me, this is gonna cost him." I thought, no...had you of got your building permit, like you're required by law to do, that extra expense would of been known upfront. 2-3 weeks later Pat and one other man came and fixed up the terrible job they did to my dad. Putting in a few more screws, finally leveling the deck a bit more, removing the piles of bricks, but didn't do the joists as the manufacter said to. I texted Pat the email from MitEk. Pat's workers had been out already 3-4 times to fix things but never did. That's why Pat came himself. I asked why the workers still had left the exposed nails and missing screws in the joists. Pat said he's sorry and he let the one guy go. I have photos included of his shoddy job, and the reply from the manufacturer's response. If you had a good experience with Top Deck, good for you. But this was my experience. And I advise if you have an elderly parent who's gullible please watch out for them because there are companies like Top Deck who prey on them. I had to do all of the inspecting, phone calls, and research myself because Top Deck is "lazy". Anyone who thinks I'm lying just contact me. I'll play you voicemails and our recorded phone calls.
