I already recommend Model Remodel when anyone asks about doing home projects.
Areas For Improvement - None. I wish I could think of something. I was so worried about the whole remodel process after having a few bad experiences and Model Remodel made it so easy and the result is unbelievably amazing. I was actually sad when we finished because I wasn't going to have the daily interactions with them.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Everything! I had some bad experiences with past remodel projects so was worried about the process but Model Remodel made it easy and completely enjoyable. I really liked the Model Remodel team that was on site everyday (Rohn and Steve are the BEST). The team in the office was so kind, patient and smart. The most important part was that they were all empathetic and funny humans. It wasn't just a transactional project. Plus the quality of the work still blows me away every time I use my new kitchen.
This company was extremely helpful in guiding a 72 year old novice from start to finish through my 1950’s house remodeling, From start to finish they met with me, patiently explaining the process, offering choices and creating the space I had dreamed of while working as a tight knit team to pull it off.
I recommend Model Remodel every opportunity I can. We wanted a design/build firm to manage our process from beginning to end. They had creative solutions for our house and allowed us to view the space in a way we never could have imagined. They were on budget and completed our remodel on time. Communication was clear. We lived in our house for much of the remodel and we felt safe throughout the construction. Everyone from the project manager to the site supervisor to the contractors checked in our comfort and safety on a daily basis. All of the third-party contracts hired to complete work were extremely skilled. We have gotten many compliments on the carpentry work. It was relief working with a company so comfortable and fluent with the city of Seattle's permitting process. I enthusiastically recommend Model Remodel.
We wanted a high quality remodel for an important room in our house (main bathroom). We trusted MRM to do a high quality job that would last for many years, and that is exactly what they delivered. Highly recommend.
My husband and I had a dream of doing an expansion of our cramped 1950's home that to do right, was going to be a stretch for what we could afford. We picked Model Remodel because the moment we met Jason Legat (owner) and Cat Schmidt (designer) we could feel their warmth, care, and excitement to help us create our dream house. Our timing was horrible in choosing to remodel- as immediately after we agreed to move forward after getting our estimate we heard news that there was rising lumber/ sky rocketing sub contractor costs and horrible permit delays with the city. It seemed that we hit hurdle after hurdle that made the project near impossible. Each and every road block we hit- Jason Legat and his entire team (special shout out to Issac Woods estimator for tireless penny pinching and scrambling to keep to a budget we could do) BENT OVER BACKWARDS to make our project happen. Cat Schmidt held our hands through every aspect of picking out details, Kent Perry our project supervisor was a dream to work with, Ricky Bribiesca kept the budget on track, Leo/Shiloh/Art and all the other onsite workers did excellent work, and Kim/Kris helped keeping up with our difficult loan. To everyone at Model Remodel thank you for a challenging but amazing process. The end result was worth every moment! We love our new house.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Every single person we dealt with in this company was professional, warm, excited about our project and made every effort to make this process and smooth and successful one. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with them all.
We had a very disappointing experience with MRM, especially considering how positive the initial (design) phase was. Our designer Kirsten was great, and the only wholly positive part of our experience with MRM. Joe, our estimator, is an amiable guy but did not give us an accurate estimate. In particular, our cabinet allowance was only half of the actual cost ($7000 discrepancy) despite the fact that we did not change our cabinet design or specs after the allowance was calculated. Ross, the project manager, also made a couple of costly mistakes when approving subcontractor quotes by either misunderstanding something and not clarifying it (paint quote) or approving the quote without actually checking it (tile quote). Jack, the site supervisor, was overall good. In addition to going over budget, the remodel also went a month over schedule and the delay was not communicated to us until we asked about it directly. To cap things off, we moved back into the house only to discover that the basement ceiling was not insulated. When we asked Ross about it, he claimed that we had instructed him to remove the basement insulation from the scope of work in order to save money. We had no recollection of this decision, and Ross had no change order, no email confirmation, not even any meeting notes. He eventually agreed to fix the mistake. Because of Kirsten's great design work, we're ultimately happy with the remodeled space, but overall I think both MRM and ourselves just want to forget that we ever worked together.
MRM provided excellent quality of workmanship both from in-house and sub-contractors. They demonstrated out-of-the box thinking in the proposed design of our small condo space.
They were just terrific in working thru what proved to be a complicated design and renovation project.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Easy to communicate. Quick response to questions, concerns. Accommodating staff. Important design ideas as the project progressed.
I would tell my friend that they did a good job, but it was more expensive than we thought it would be-- but that's because there were other things they found along the way that needed to be (and were) fixed.
We had a fantastic experience with Model Remodel. I think we were initially naïve about the cost of a remodel project. The folks at Model Remodel were very patient with us as we figured out what the scope of our project could be. The quality of the work we are impressed with. All of it was done in a timely, well organized, and efficient manner. We are thrilled!
Generally speaking, we were happy with our choice to go with Model Remodel for work on our new house (hardwood floors and stairs renovation). They provided a precise contract, were always professional, and worked to satisfy our requests over the course of the project. Our hesitation to fully recommend Model Remodel or to call upon their services again lies on the budgetary side of things. The overall budget of our project was flat. It's hard to complain about that. However, the actual work done on our house came in well under budget. Unfortunately, we didn't get to share in the benefits of coming in under budget. Model Remodel kept those gains for themselves. When we looked at the details in our invoices, we saw that the company's internal costs had exploded. They'd risen by several hundred percent, to levels disproportionate compared to the overall cost of the project. We expressed our concern about this to Model Remodel. They provided responses to justify the internal cost increases. Nevertheless, we walked away from the project with the feeling that something just wasn't right in this regard.
Model Remodel did an extensive remodel of our home (partial kitchen remodel, removing multiple walls, buildout of a second kitchen in the basement, new stairs, skylight addition, new flooring in the basement, and an awesome pull-out wine storage unit under our stairs). They were always very professional and friendly; communication was top-notch; they were very respectful of our neighbors and neighborhood; and the quality of work done is outstanding. Two years later, my husband and I still comment regularly on how much we love what they did to the house.
Why Model Remodel - They were a bit higher priced than others, but they presented themselves as a very professional and capable company. A colleague of mine had also used MRM in the past, and he was very pleased with the quality of their work.
Areas Of Satisfaction - The quality of the finished product. As I mentioned above, they can be a bit higher priced, but it is WELL WORTH IT. The quality of the work done is impressive, and we receive compliments all the time on how great the finished result looks.
Lead Source - Word of mouth referral from a colleague.
Model Remodel was a great company to work with--friendly staff, communicated clearly, kept the work site spic and span, and maintained a high level of quality of work for themselves and the subcontractors. We also appreciated their ability to deal with unforeseen issues and their flexibility to add design elements throughout the project. We are extremely pleased with the outcome and love the work we got done!
Why Model Remodel - It was a chain of recommendations and they came highly recommended from the architect we were working with.
Areas Of Satisfaction - I was satisfied with the interactions with everyone. Everyone was very nice. They were all interested in what we wanted and needed.
Model Remodel firm is the epitome of friendly professionalism. Their staff are seasoned industry experts. They made the remodel so easy, there was never a disruption in our lives. Fortunately, the work did not involve plumbing or major demo. The changes and work unfolded so quickly it was thrilling to come home from work each day to see what was new. We'd hire them again without hesitation.
Areas For Improvement - Not at all. They exceeded expectations--just great to work with in all regards.
Areas Of Satisfaction - I wanted a general contractor that could also provide design services because I had particular design ideas for the kitchen island, but I didn't have time or wherewithal to source everything myself. I worked with their designer, Cat, and she understood my vision immediately and was able to suggest fixtures and materials that brought the project to life. Cat helped with all of the details and was available and always responded quickly to my inquiries. It was really fun working with her on this project.
Why Model Remodel - I chose Model Remodel because I was familiar with some of the workers, and they were highly recommended.
Areas Of Satisfaction - We loved our on site guy, and the quality of work.
Lead Source - I heard about Model Remodel from a friend.
Why Model Remodel - Very well organized and detailed as well as very personable staff.
Areas For Improvement - We did start out a bit rocky as the designer left right after our initial design bid, but after an over budget design process, a newly hired permanent designer completed a totally new design option which we loved, and the entire experience was improved 100 percent!!
Areas Of Satisfaction - See above; also extremely communicative during the entire process. No surprises aside from the absolutely stunning end result. It beat our expectations!
We're very happy with the results of the two bathrooms they updated for us. They have a great team that communicates proactively and is on top of managing issues and changes. We were especially pleased with the iterative design process and the distinctive finishes. We would definitely recommend them and work with them on other house projects.
Areas Of Satisfaction - Communication and bias for action on working through issues.
Why Model Remodel - I met them at the Phinney Ridge Remodel Fair and I had a connection right away with the designer who understood what I was wanting to do and got excited about it.
Areas Of Satisfaction - The design of the kitchen was exceptional and actually won an award. The space is very small and it was well imagined and used every square-inch of possible space.
