Kyle Bannister and his team did a fantastic job from demolition, rebuilding and waterproofing deck, rail and gutters. And Kyle's recommendations were right on: installing facial railing mounts/gutter instead of surface mounts; special flashing for transition from roof to deck; providing flexibility in allowing no cost scheduling adjustments to meet our work/family activities.
Special mention goes out to: Erick Spicer and Spencer Puckett hard work in remediating the complex wood rot areas; Cristian Rosas, mighty fine work on installing the railing with the special triangular magnetic gate for access to the adjacent roof; and we thank goodness for Jet Garcia scheduling, payments, and responding to our many questions.
They were very professional.
We had a great experience with Masterdeck, LLC. Starting with the design and permit process through the construction phase and finish phase they strived to make sure the porch and stairs had great esthetics as well as excellent construction. They are great communicators.
Though it was spendier than we would have liked, the quality of the work was really great and our deck looks fantastic. We particularly look forward to using our outdoor space in the colder/wetter months with the addition of our heater and undercover system.
Masterdeck did a professional job. Kyle Woodward, the lead carpenter, was exceptional with his work and attitude.
Would definitely recommend Masterdecks for anybody looking to build a deck that will look great and last!
Prompt communication and expectations clearly laid out early on; team quick to identify possible issues and address emergent work; and all work executed at a high quality bar and aligned with the schedule
We really liked their crews and they did deal with any issues without question. We still have an open issue that we have been told will be addressed and I expect it will even though we have paid the last payment. The problem I had was their schedule estimates were way off. We we told it would take about 6 weeks total to refinish our two small decks and replace the railings. It took closer to 12 weeks essentially the entire summer to get everything done. This may not be their fault with all the supply chain issues in the Economy these days but still we really never got to use our deck during the summer at all due to waiting for the various aspects to get done and they did have to tear off the first attempt of the resurfacing as they didn't slope it properly. Luckily their water proofing contractor noticed this and the framing crew came back out and tore it all back off and re framed it all.
Everyone I interacted with was professional and quick to respond. Multiple changes had to be made, and they dealt with it all perfectly.
This was a large complex project to replace a second-story wrap-around 1,000 sq. ft. deck that had a somewhat challenging topography for building on one side. I was impressed with the professionalism and skills of all the craftsmen who worked on the project. The project manager (Ryan Quinn), quality manager (Mario Poposki), primary deck build crew (lead Scott Kennedy and Brandon Douzat), railing lead (Cristian), and undercover lead (Evan Anderson) were all great to work with, as well as their fellow crew members; very personable and friendly; patiently answered my questions; kept me informed of progress; promptly discussed and addressed any adjustments needed, problems, considerations, etc.; and made solid recommendations when the inevitable issues arose. The two different subcontractors that MasterDecks brought in for demolition of the old deck and for some concrete finishing work were highly skilled, very efficient, and experts in their professions. I would definitely recommend them for these specialized areas. I was also impressed that MasterDecks has a specialized team that focuses just on permitting, thus helping to streamline that often time-consuming process. This was one of the advantages over some of the other contractors I considered. I found the Buildertrend online project management tool was extremely helpful for tracking progress and status of the work as well as the financials and other aspects of the project. Unfortunately, there were significant schedule delays following completion of the main deck build, waiting for availability of the railing team and then the undercover team. These delays were primarily due to issues on other projects unrelated to this one, which impacted resources needed for this project and resulted in an overall project timeline about 2 months longer than expected. Most of that time was waiting for a few relatively short duration tasks to be completed. The project was more expensive than originally anticipated when getting the bids, however the old adage "you get what you pay for" rings true and I am very pleased with the final product. The new deck is gorgeous and the undercover system will be great when the fall and winter storms come! Although there were some frustrations along the way, which is to be expected with a construction project this size, I believe I selected the best contractor for this job and would recommend MasterDecks for a large or complicated project with many activities to coordinate.
They were really great to work with, addressing all our concerns.
The Project Manager is bad. We don't want to work with her. The workers don't pay attention to details. I emailed the owner several times regarding issues, but he never responded. He started emailing after the deck was complete asking about reviews and other projects. We told Amanda what we wanted during the review. Everything was approved by the city. They made a lot of changes because a lot of things were missing. We also had to pay extra money.
We would definitely use Masterdecks again and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a quality company to build your deck
I would definitely recommend Masterdecks to anyone looking for a deck project. The finished product is amazing.
From the first meeting on our deck project until completion Masterdecks met or exceeded our expectations in all regards. They are a premier company providing an excellent experience and a high-quality build/result. Each associate was highly professional, courteous, and always put our interests and satisfaction first and foremost. Their use of the Buildertrend online project management tool is outstanding. In it all aspects of the project are tracked and updated daily. The schedule, finances, daily updates, messaging to/from everyone, and other things are easily accessed. Communication is continuous so we knew exactly what was happening at all times. Once they started the project, Masterdecks worked on it every day until it was done. In our initial meetings with Dave, he listened to what we had in mind and this resulted in detailed drawings for our approval and modification to make sure everyone knew exactly what was desired and expected. Every question was asked and answered for and by us. Masterdecks handled all the permitting and inspection tasks. Ryan then took the handoff and came out to meet with us and review everything again and initiate the actual construction process. Throughout this time as well as during the entire project Jessie kept us fully up to date via Buildertrend on the timing of all the different aspects of the building process. Tyson and his apprentice, Heath, did the actual construction. Tyson’s attention to detail and craftsmanship was stellar and he maintained a clean, organized, low impact worksite. He built us a beautiful deck that was exactly what we envisioned. When day to day decisions had to be made, he explained the choices clearly and provided not only pros and cons, but also his recommendations based on his knowledge and experience. Tyson was awesome and very enjoyable to work with. We were fortunate to have him as our lead builder. During any project issues invariably come up, including some things that did not exactly meet our expectations. Tyson’s response was always the same to any request, "of course, I can make that happen." And, best of all, he did in all regards. Initially we talked with several builders and got bids, however, it was clear from the outset that Masterdecks was the most professional and instilled the most confidence and belief that the overall process would be smooth and painless for us. It was! Masterdecks is competitively priced when you factor in all the things that they actually do, but they are not the cheapest in an absolute sense. Having said that, you always get what you pay for and any premium they get is well worth it in our estimation. As you might expect, particularly in today's environment, they are very busy and there is a queue. We waited months from the time we signed the contract until our project came up on their schedule and could actually begin. Moral of that story is that you must adjust your plans and expectations accordingly if you want to engage them. We are now enjoying a wonderful deck without any regrets on any aspect of the entire project. We wholeheartedly recommend Masterdecks without any reservations. Thank you all so much!
Both the people and the process behind having a deck replaced by Masterdecks built my confidence that the work would be completed in a professional manner and would exhibit quality workmanship. There were frequent check-ins to assure that I was knowledgeable of the future steps and that I was satisfied with the completed work.
I had to continually co-manage the project because the actual project manager seemed to be either busy or uninterested or both.
I enjoyed working with them. They were prompt and they worked us in to their schedule.
There were challenges with consistency in delivering against promised timelines.
To start, the drawings were off by over 18 inches compared to how the deck was actually built. That affected the privacy area that I wanted which was the whole point of the deck project. I agreed to a work around. The deck was supposed to start in June; I had the kick-off meeting 5/9, but it kept getting pushed out due to another project and it didn't start until August. The lead guy on the project (Rod) was terrible at communication and basically would not talk to me, the homeowner, but he had no trouble talking to my boyfriend, who is not the homeowner. The initial work done was not entirely up to professional standards. Several other items did not match the drawings (skirting, skirting door, privacy area). There were many bad cuts and straight up shoddy workmanship, especially for a guy like Rod who says he has 30 years of deck building experience. Every day it felt like I had to contact the project manager (Jessie) about issues. She was always receptive and told me yes, I was right, but in the end I never got an apology or an acknowledgement of the issues by Masterdecks, the company itself. I think someone other than the PM should have come out and talked to me. There are still a few items that bug me about my deck, but at this point I don't want to deal with Jessie or Rod. Jessie said she would talk to management about all my issues and concerns and get back to me. I figured that once I made my final payment that I wouldn't hear anything and I was 100% correct. I haven't heard one word since I made that last payment.
Very professional from start to finish. I appreciated the portal to manage communication and payment.
This was a very good experience!!
Coordination was a nightmare. Site grading was not coordinated at all. You basically buried all the wood in the dirt and then told me it's standard practice. It was not what we planned for or discussed.
Many issues arose during the initial quoting phase. Some of these were due to turnover so I looked passed them. The rough build quality I think is excellent. Master Decks falls short on the finish work and detail. They installed an unstained and very marked up and dirty gluelam beam instead of a pressure treated beam that would have matched the posts. After I complained they did offer to replace it or paint to match. I opted for the paint since ripping out a main beam seemed silly. Paint didn't really match though. Other issues included lack of fascia over exposed hardware. The excuse was that the rendering they gave during the estimate was not accurate due to the limitations of thier software. Well, exposed galvanized hardware is hardly "Master" quality. A few other finish work snags along the way that did get addressed. The PM was not really present at all. We dealt with the manager and he was very responsive and tried to be as accommodating as possible to our concerns. Again, 100% on the overall build quality, but definite room for improvement on execution and finish.
The stairs were done so poorly that they had to be completely redone. Masterdecks did hire and pay for this but it caused for even further delay in project completion.
Masterdecks did a great job on our decking project. I would highly recommend them and the divisions they work with including the Rescom Railing and Undercover Systems. Our project took 2 years, mostly due to permitting delays from the city and covid supply chain delays. Overall, it was worth the wait. We have received numerous compliments on the work we had done, including a new front porch with ipe wood and cedar wrapped posts and cedar deck skirting, a new 12 ft high composite deck with cedar wrapped posts and beams, a custom iron spiral staircase (installed with Northwest Stair and Rail), and an undercover system with lighting so we have a covered back patio. We have enjoyed all of our new spaces and will for many more years to come. Thank you to everyone we worked with especially Boyan, Drago, Dennis, Borris, Ryan and Jessie!
We are very pleased with the deck. Its very attractive, sturdy and easy to care for. Our neighbours have all commented on how much they like it.
The employees showed up on time and when expected. They cleaned up the area as best as they could daily.
Masterdecks was great in terms of the rough construction. The deck is very solid and I'm very happy with that. In terms of finish work however, I kept having to ask for corrections for things that should have been basic. Its like they didn't really care what it looked like, but it was rock solid. If I did recommend them I would certainly also say that the customer needs to have a very specific understanding of what they are getting. I based my purchase off of the presentation they sent in the bid, only to be told later that their rendering software was not really that accurate. Hardware is exposed, and the cheap glue lam beam they used was hideous. Finished product did NOT look like what I "bought". I was given the option to have the beam replaced or painted with a color match to the pressure treated posts. I chose to have it painted as the structure was already built and disassembly would have compromised it. Unfortunately, I have no idea what it was color matched to, but it was NOT the pressure treated posts. I now have an orange beam which looks pretty dumb. So while I am happy with the overall construction, there are definitely areas I am less than happy with.
We most certainly would recommend Masterdecks to our friends and family. Masterdecks is an upstanding company with knowledgeable employees throughout the entire process.
Masterdecks team has really great professionals who are experts and know what they are doing. We are thoroughly impressed with the outcome of the deck and the quality. As with any project, we did run into few issues but Masterdecks team including their owner took the time to understand our concerns, addressed our pain points, went above and beyond in finishing up the deck exceeding our expectations. We have so many neighbors of ours stop by to look the finished product and we continue to highlight Masterdecks to them. Projects of these sorts are one time investment to the home we live in and we went with the best of the best who don't cut corners and did the right thing. Special highlight to Kyle Bannister for staying on top of this project after being brought in mid way, for his time commitment and communication, truly addressing our concerns and staying thru the entire course of the project.
They are the best in the businesses. They didn't cut corners. They do everything the right way. I felt really good about having them build my deck. I felt they were more qualified than anyone else I could get.
High quality, professional work. Great care made to assure the end result was top-rate. The workers would check-in with us to assure that all was being done exactly as we wanted.
They are very professional and on time. The crew lead is very communicative. Whenever I have any questions, he explains the "why" to me. They are very receptive and accommodating to feedback. They are very responsive. It is very worry-free, and I know the project is in good hands.
Masterdecks have redone all three of my decks, and I love them all!
Masterdecks did an amazing job with both decks on our house. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to build or renovate a deck on their house.
We had a lovely experience interacting with project workers and they listened to all of our input.
I have used this company twice now because I was very impressed with my first project. I hired them to build a pergola on the deck they built me for the first project.
With a 1908 home, we had special challenges to replace our porch surface and entry stairway. Masterdecks did an awesome job with great communication, researching solutions for our particular job, as well as quality work. We are very happy and would highly rec them!
It exceeded my expectations, because of how beautiful it looks, how fast it went, and their attention to detail. I was very impressed!
The service we received is below our expectations.
Very professional operation. Everyone I dealt with was reliable and easy to work with. Final product looks great / met my expectations.
Masterdecks was very professional. Although they were not the cheapest company, the communication regarding the itemized project cost was good, and I am very happy with the quality of the deck.
