We were informed 20 minutes prior to closing that $51,500 would be withheld from my client for FIRPA, however we do not believe that this was indeed necessary after consulting with multiple other tax advisors and reputable closing attorneys. My client has a social security number, he pays taxes and has resided in the the US for several years. This happened a week ago and still have not gotten any resolution. We emailed Camille Brannon and she responded that she would get back to us and we have not heard back as of yet. My client cannot purchase another home now as $51,500 is being withheld.
