Water is coming in through new overhead sewer conversion...how? Last year we had a overhead sewer conversion done in my house. I was in the basement last week and heard water running. I looking near the new PVC pipe that was going out from the new ejector pit that was installed in the basement. If you look at the picture you'll see how this was constructed. They put a hole in the foundation, but then used this black rubber gasket that you tighten up. It's 'supposed' to be water tight. Clearly its not and I grabbed a wrench to tighten it up as it had come lose. Luckily it was only rain water, but it must have been coming out for awhile since my carpet was soaked. Is this normal? Is this even the the right way to seal this up? Of course the contractor won't call me back now to fix it. I've pretty much stopped the leaking, but there's a tiny bit of water coming through still, and I don't wanna over tighten the nuts. Thoughts?

Real grass or artificial grass? Which is better in the long run? So I've been cutting, edging, watering, fertilizing, treating, and seeding my lawn for about 6 years. I'm looking into getting artificial grass to cut down on the labor and cost of keeping up real grass. Looking for opinions on if this is a good move or not.

What is the minimum pitch for a slate roof? I'm contemplating a slate roof for the new building. The main structure's roof is 8:12, and I'd like to continue with slate for the porches, which will have a much shallower pitch. The building will be in the Western North Carolina mountains in an area that gets regular snow (less than a foot each snowfall, and generally under six inches) and above average rain (about 70 inches per year). Is 3:12 adequate?

Where to find good software developers for a construction company? I am in the process of starting my own small commercial construction company. For this I need software development with some nuances. I will provide more detailed information to those with whom I will collaborate. Perhaps there is someone here who has had similar experiences. I will be very grateful for any advice.

I have a home built 1956 with original aluminum crank out picture window that I'd like painted to match my brown gutters. Picture window has 2 small crank outs on sides and one huge glass pane in middle. I was told aluminum was pitted and would be difficult to paint over even after sanded and primed. I don't mind if there's going to be a little texture because I want this window to match the color of the other windows and it doesn't need replaced, just rechaulked & painted. Will this look good painted or should I leave it alone? Thanks.

What is the temperature range for installing roof shingles
Dec 30, 2016

In order for shingles to sit and form properly, it should be at least 36 degrees fahrenheit (2.2 celsius) outside when laying shingles.

What is the best way to kill and remove about 1/3 acre of poison ivy? Some of it is on the ground but it is also climbing trees.

Front door damage from dog. Is this fixable? Hello. I was dog sitting my coworker's dog and he chipped up my wooden front door. My coworker has already agreed to pay for the repairs. I had a consultation with Home Depot regarding their door installation service. The rough estimate for a brand new door (plus hinges, sill, trim, etc) and labor charge was about $1800. Is there a method that could get this repaired for much less money? Perhaps some sort of patchwork and repainting? I am not handy at all so I would need to hire someone for that.
