I had an 8x10 porch built which covers my back door and kitchen windows. Does this qualify as an Energy Efficiency Improvement by IRS standards?

Cindy: Sorry I was gone so long...something came up, but I'm back and this time with photos of the arch window! In looking at the arch window, I'm also wondering if the vacuum seal in between the two panes of glass has been compromised as well. What can we do ourselves to remedy this or can someone just give me an estimate as to how much it would cost to remove and replace this arch window in one day as we need to maintain our security. Thanks so much for any and all suggestions or information! We leave on Va-Ca this weekend so I'll be out of pocket till Monday, 3/30! Linda V Creedmoor, NC 3-17-15

Does anyone have experience with Thermory for decking or other applications? A friend is contemplating a deck project and two contractors have suggested it as an alternative to Ipe. He prefers to use tried-and-true products, and would love to learn more before seriously considering it. More from their site: http://www.thermoryusa.com/

I just had a new home built and they did not put on gutters and they did not tell me in advance. Is this unusual because many people have been shocked by it!

Anyone have any experience with the Rain Pro gutters and leaf guards installed by Nu Look Home Design? We are having our roof and possibly our gutters done by Nu Look home design in Northern Virginia. Anyone have any experience with their Rain Pro gutters with the leaf guards installed? Do they work? Lots of trees and leaves and etc that gets on my roof and my current gutters are ALWAYS clogged. Thanks

Mitering corners with James Hardie Artisan Series siding We are considering using James Hardie's Artisan Series on the portions of our new house that will have siding instead of brick. Ideally, we'd skip corner board and go with mitered corners. I understand from a brief and casual conversation with a James Hardie representative that there may be a handful of good tips for how to have this come out looking as beautiful as it does in this picture. A couple examples: Given the angle of the siding, I don't think the cut will be exactly 45°. Also, I believe he suggested some sort of backing at the corners that will help keep the mitered seam from separating. Any advice?

How do I go about find out whether I have a mold problem? I just discovered that since the 200 build, the venting of the master bath fan was not vented outside but has been blowing into an attic space.
